Easily 3", maybe 4" outside, and still coming down. BTW, I'm no longer in Cary, but southwest of Chapel Hill.

If I can wait until morning, I'll do the Gettysburg Address.
(You can tell I lived in Texas for two years...LOL)
To: Howlin
Ditto-- same location
Guess we're neighbors
Snow is best when its on post cards.

You are so right about that -- it's amazing how "spoiled" we are -- we forget the basics. I DO happen to have 2 fully functional manual can openers!!!!

Columbia SC here. Snow turning into hail.10:00pm Highways will most likely be dangerous in the morning. We are supposed to get more snow in the morning. If we do it will be on top of ice. Everybody please be careful. Sotherners do not know how to drive in snow/ice

There have to be thousands of abandoned cars across the state.

And closing down a military base was a very serious thing. Poorman WAS confused; he'd never seen such a thing. I live in VA BEach and they just announced on the news that Langley AFB is closed tomorrow and it hasn't even started snowing in Hampton yet.
However, I must say, that with the lousy snow removal and the hoards of yankee drivers who want to show everyone how to drive on the snow, and end up blocking our roadways with their accidents, a little snow can be a big problem.

HOWLIN!!! LOL!!! Even pictures of your DECK are included on your thread! LOL oh LOL, just wonderful! Snow makes everyone feel just a little bit of wonder-ain't nature grand? Pitfalls and all!
I can't believe I'm reading a weather thread that has nothing to do with Indiana-but I have loved every word...even the bah humbuggers' comments. Too much! Here's to work cancellations and lots of cozying up for ya all! For myself, I'm sure glad we installed an electric fence for our dog a few months back....she has had her first taste of snow at Christmas (just enough to cover the grass) and had us laughing for what seemed like hours!

Hey, what's wrong with pictures of my deck? I was trying to set a "mood." :-)

I just figured out that since the picture I posted of the Charlotte airport is from a web cam, it keeps updating. I guess someone's going to come across this thread one day and wonder why a picture of a bright sunny day is here ..... LOL!
But right now, it looks pretty snowy out there ..... glad I'm not taking an early flight anywhere tomorrow!
The web cam pic is HERE.

Hi,Howlin! Are you still awake watching this beautiful snow?
"I bet we get 12 inches! I just have a feeling!"
I have that feeling too. We have at least 5 inches now in Cary. They say it will taper off this morning then a 2nd system will come in and pick things up again.
It is going to be a mess - but it surely is pretty!
(Somehow I managed to get to the grocery store on NY Day so was all stocked up here and didn't have to risk my life going in the nearest Harris Teeter!)
If you're asleep - will check in with you tomorrow as I will be working from home for sure.....
North Carolina Weather - nothing like it! We had summertime up til the last week or two of December - now it's winter wonderland.
I will pray for all those who HAVE to go to work tomorrow to be as safe as possible - because as long as it's still coming down - the snow plows (yes, there are some out tonight even) - don't do much good.
I just don't want the ice...that is the worst. Take care all North Carolinians in the snow/ice - and stay warm!
Oh - snows always make me think of my mama - bless her soul - who LOVED to see snow as much as us kids!

I'm awake; just got back from "looking" again......we have a LOT of snow!! And it IS beautiful. And it's so quiet!

Yeah, Avent Ferry is just about rock-throwing distance from where I am right now. I think we have a few more than 15 flakes, though. Let me count...yep, yep definitely found more than that! :-)
To: Howlin
Well, my guess is that people underestimated the storm. Since that big storm a couple of years ago came in the middle of the night, people didn't experience it completely. Now, we have one in the early evening and people are being stupid and/or arrogant with their cars. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get my car home the entire evening while I was at work.
