For the purposes of enlightening me, please define "unruly" in the eyes of the airline?

Two hours to fly less than 600 NM? Maybe they were unruly because the flight was making lousy time.

The unruliness could have been due to 'tine rage - it's happened before.

Couple hundred years ago, when we had smoking sections in airplanes, it was a fun place to be. We would have a couple of drinks, meet our seat mates, talk, socialize and smoke. I remember a non-smoker who couldn't get a seat up forward, and had settled for a smoking seat say "Wow, I didn't know it was so much fun in the smoking section".

We were rowdy, and the flight attendants didn't seem to mind.

The non smokers thought they could improve on a system like that.

Can someone tell me why we don't have handcuffs on the airplanes? Just cuff the "unruly" passenger to his seat and go on to your destination. And what happened to the sky marshalls?

"There were actually two unruly passengers on board the aircraft and as a precautionary measure the plane was diverted to El Paso,

This is the Bush plan for punishment of airline rowdies: to El Paso, with no trial, no lawyers, no chance of escape.

HAH!!!

Let's see how many OTHERS will risk cutting up in American flag airlines NOW!!

Continental plane diverted to El Paso due to unruly passengers

Victor Calzada / El Paso Times

A Continental Airlines plane sits at the gate at El Paso International Airport Tuesday. The plane was diverted to the airport while on a flight from Houston to Los Angeles when two passengers became unruly, according to FAA officials. Times staff, wire report

A Continental Airlines plane enroute from Houston to Los Angeles was diverted to El Paso Tuesday after two passengers became unruly during the flight.

Continental Airlines flight 627 left Houston at 11:50 a.m. and made the unscheduled landing at El Paso International Airport at 12:39 p.m.

Roland Herwig, an official with the, FAA confirmed the incident to the AP.

"There actually were two unruly passengers on board the aircraft and as a precautionary measure the plane was diverted to El Paso," Continental spokeswoman Julie King said.

King said she had no further details, and there were no immediate reports of any injuries.

FBI investigators were called to the airport to question the unruly passengers.

The plane, a Boeing 757, resumed its flight shortly after it landed. It was expected to land in Los Angeles at 4:16 p.m. local time.

Since I live five minutes from the airport, it's so comforting to know El Paso is a dumping ground for unruly passengers aside from being a dumping ground for the state's sexual offenders. El Paso...everyone's dream....everyone's nightmare.

That's what you get with your regular classless communist society like ours. In the olden days the riff raff traveled by bus if it traveled at all, while those of us who can read and write boarded Pullmans and aeroplanes. And on passenger trains, there were well separated classes of seats. You'd know that a couple of unruly upper class boys wouldn't try to bring an airplane down, but with unruly semi conscious vulgarians you never know for certain. You can have your egalitarianism. I say restore the class society.

(But seriously, recognize that there are social classes and recognize the vulgarization of America.)

I haven't finished the thread but was thinking...after spending the Christmas holiday with In-Laws and perhaps an argument with the spousal unit, I can imagine being unruly on the plane. Not towards anyone but my spouse, but definately to my spouse.

Glad the 2 major holidays are done with. One with in laws (as the outlaw)..the other with my family which can sometimes be just as painful.

A few years ago, I thought the other half would be thrown off the plane because of a fight we were having. Some people can't control emotion...and it's sad.

Unruly is airline code for drunk. I guess soon we will all be flying naked or not at all.

They need lots and lots of HARD jail time, and brutal fines. What if it were a diversion? Bad. Very Bad.

If the shoe-person were more severly dealt-with on the spot...people...nah, these imbiciles couldn't comprehend the danger and wrongness of their acts...no matter how many innocents die, no matter how. That baby dangling out of the WTC window by its mother's dying hand, didn't get to drink and enjoy a plane ride. Shame on these criminals...and when they get out of court, where I am not sure this now weakened and corrupted country will put them...the people should remember...their families, neighbors and workmates...and take appropriate, and legal...but not kind action. Punish them. Remember 9-11-01. Remember.
