Sounds kind of snobbish to me. Were you on my flight this summer with my toddler grandson? (lol). I used to work in security at a large airport when I was 19 and the worst passenger I ever met was a exc. "suit" who was feeling no pain. To this day I have problems going into any of his stores. Merry Christmas.

I haven't finished the thread but was thinking...after spending the Christmas holiday with In-Laws and perhaps an argument with the spousal unit, I can imagine being unruly on the plane. Not towards anyone but my spouse, but definately to my spouse.
Glad the 2 major holidays are done with. One with in laws (as the outlaw)..the other with my family which can sometimes be just as painful.
A few years ago, I thought the other half would be thrown off the plane because of a fight we were having. Some people can't control emotion...and it's sad.

Post-9/11, if it is reported to be two drunk college students, there will be at least a dozen people on this forum who claim it's a cover up.And if they are middle eastern types there will be at least 4 posters claiming that Israeli counterintelligence hired them...
To: fiftymegaton
Unruly is airline code for drunk. I guess soon we will all be flying naked or not at all.

Keine sheise, mein herr!!!
You're on your own Bubba. Sky marshalls have the responsibility of real cops - NONE - if they fail, who ya gonna sue?
Someone gets out of line - jump'em and kick them in the kidneys ASAP.
Rememeber - Dial 911 - and die! It's just as effective

They need lots and lots of HARD jail time, and brutal fines. What if it were a diversion? Bad. Very Bad.
If the shoe-person were more severly dealt-with on the spot...people...nah, these imbiciles couldn't comprehend the danger and wrongness of their acts...no matter how many innocents die, no matter how. That baby dangling out of the WTC window by its mother's dying hand, didn't get to drink and enjoy a plane ride. Shame on these criminals...and when they get out of court, where I am not sure this now weakened and corrupted country will put them...the people should remember...their families, neighbors and workmates...and take appropriate, and legal...but not kind action. Punish them. Remember 9-11-01. Remember.

Then let's have tort reform when it comes to measures to protect private property when lives are involved. Like, you can't sue someone for reasonable measures protecting the lives of people on his airplanes. If you don't want to fly with someone who cuffs unruly passengers, buy yourself a Learjet or charter one.
I am surprised I haven't read anything on FR on this point from our Libertarian cadre (I think they are too busy worrying about the War on Drugs): protecting airplanes is, for the airplanes' owners, a private property issue. Businesses have both a right and a duty to protect their assets and their customers while utilizing those assets. Protecting airplanes is, for the GOVERNMENT, is covered by both of the two legitimate roles of government as defined by Jefferson: protect the citizenry from foreign attack, and mediate disputes among citizens.

#23: They should have smoked their sneakers before boarding-rules are rules.

For the purposes of enlightening me, please define "unruly" in the eyes of the airline? On my airplane (or in my business, in my home or in my car), "unruly" is what I say it is. On YOUR airplane "unruly" is what YOU say it is.

"On my airplane (or in my business, in my home or in my car), "unruly" is what I say it is. On YOUR airplane "unruly" is what YOU say it is." Fair enough, but could you at least post some kind of standard of some sort? Some kind of a "you cannot be more than THIS obnoxious" on our airline? Perhaps a short film before boarding, or a comic book primer ala "Goofus and Gallant". Something like that.

Two hours to fly less than 600 NM? Maybe they were unruly because the flight was making lousy time.Don't be an idiot. First of all, simply because they landed at EP doesn't mean they were over the city when they decided to land. They could have returned to EP from farther away. Second, I realize you probably were not serious (at least I hope you weren't) but it should go without saying that lateness is not a reason to be unruly. At this point, joking about it isn't funny.

Unruliness by the nicotine-deprived. Sometimes they get so unruly the plane has to be landed for them to be dealt with.

"Couple hundred years ago, when we had smoking sections in airplanes, it was a fun place to be." What a fascinating piece of revisionist history. We non-amokers thought it was hell to be cramped up with drug addicts spewing their toxic waste into our fresh air.
Truly the bad old days...

Nobody is going to sue these "unruly passengers" for whatever turmoil they have caused If the airline presses charges then the unruly passengers will be charged for the amount of money it cost the airline to divert the flight ... fuel and employee compensation. It's significant.
To: dvan
There's a very good explanation why they were unruly. It was a married couple.

Is that what really happens? Because the Arab guy from LA who made threats against all Americans when he was busted for smoking in the bathroom on board said he was going to sue because he feels he was treated unfairly for looking middle eastern. And you know in LA he could win pretty easily.

Today, I flew Cedar Rapids-St.Louis-Columbus. Was I profiling? You betcha.
