Merry Christmas! The King James is a very recent (early 1600s) translation into a language vastly different in grammar and syntax from Syriac, Aramaic, Hebrew, or even the Greek which is its source (textus receptus). I personally believe the Bible IS inspired, accurate, and true. Try translating a little Greek yourself from the textus receptus (or the Sinaiticus for that matter), and I'm sure that you will be impressed with the linguistic abilities of the translators of the KJV. King James garnered the best linguists from three continents, not all of whom were Christian, to assist in this work. To zero in on minutiae from the extraordinarily well-done KJV translation misses the point about the literal truth of the Bible. Many, including myself, believe the Bible is what it claims to be--inspired and therefore accurate. I once saw a bad translation of the Iliad; it was really horrible--ignored meter, misunderstood tense forces, etc. Yet this takes nothing away from Homer, only from the American translation (which I soon put away).

Do you believe the gospels? Jesus said in John 5:46,47 "For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?" Moses wrote all of Genesis.

The bible says you can know: I John 5:13 "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; THAT YE MAY KNOW THAT YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." Codie, you can have assurance of your salvation, if you believe God.

hmmm ... OK, well I'll give you my Biblical answer and you can examine the Scriptures I reference at your leisure if you so desire ... you may well be in agreement with them but should know them for your own edification and to reach others ...
my conversion and Faith are based upon
1) the same plea of the "tax collector" of Luke 18:9-14,
2) the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19
3) the Call of Acts 2:38
4) the Belief, Confession and Salvation of Romans 10:9-10 and
5) the Grace of Ephesians 2:8
with that, my cooking turkey has finished (a few minutes ago) so I'm off to serve my Christmas dinner to my family ... FReegards and Merry Christmas ...

I CANT THINK of any New Testament scholar who takes [the Gospel accounts of Jesuss birth] to be historically reliable, said Fredriksen... ...which reflects accurately, not the state nor consensus of modern scholarship, but the narrowness of Fredriksen's reading and frame of reference.

I believe No# 1 if it is refering to the KING JAMES 1611 AV. I don't believe all the other new age versions in English. They disagree with the King James and they disagree with each other. My father, who was a biblical scholar (with graduate degrees from real universities) and was an ordained protestant preacher to boot, always told me that the translation of the KJV was disturbingly poor in many areas. He knew how to read many of the originals in their native languages, and I remember half his library being written in strange old languages.
While I'm not up on it enough to remember, I clearly recall him stating that the most faithful translations of the ancient texts were one of the relatively recent translations. Since he had copies of the old texts from which the English bible was created and was fluent in a couple of those languages, I can only assume that he knew what he was talking about. Its a pity that I don't remember the details beyond him reiterating that the KJV wasn't that great of a translation.

How on earth would we know if the Bible is accurate or not? Stupid poll.
The Bible was given to man by God who created the universe, and it says "the word of the Lord endureth for ever."
The question then becomes...can an individual believe God has the power to keep his word intact as the centuries pass. (God who had the power to create the entire universe)
It requires more faith than I can muster to believe the athiest doctrine that the world was an accident and a coincidence which evolved from matter which appeared by accidence and coincidence out of nothingness.
God gave man the Bible, and He keeps it whole and intact.
II Timothy 3:16 & 17: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
I Peter 1:24 & 25: For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

You state that..."
... the soul is in perpetual existence "KJV Ezekiel 18:4
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Do you have a scripture that contradicts this one?
You also state ......"though Jesus and God are identical....."
How can this be when Jesus was created?
See KJV Colossians 1:15
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:(some translations say "of all creation")
This seems to be pretty specific to me.
Cheers.

Leonine stated....
". To zero in on minutiae from the extraordinarily well-done KJV translation misses the point about the literal truth of the Bible. Many, including myself, believe the Bible is what it claims to be--inspired and therefore accurate."I did not and am not challenging the accuracy of the translation in the verses I quoted. In fact I am curious if they are in contention.
If they are not, then how can one believe that the soul is immortal(KJV Ezekiel 18:4... Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. ), or that Jesus is identical to God(KJV Colossians 1:15... Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: )?
Cheers:^)

That means your father was not a bible believer. It also means he thought he was smarter than God. He also believed God is not powerful enough to perserve His Words purely and perfectly. I know the manuscripts, the ones used to correct the KING JAMES 1611 AV come out of Alexandria Egypt. I can recite the Creed of the Alexandrian Cult for you if you'd like, but the main theme in the creed is that there is NO ABSOLUTE FINAL AUTHORITY OF GOD ANYWHERE ON THIS EARTH. So the Alexandrian cult members write their own bibles and correct Gods perserved Words with THEIR words. The manuscripts they use were never in the majority text used by the church for 2000 years. They were created out of thin air by a couple of spiritualists named Westcott and Hort in the late 1800's.

One discussion at a time. Thanks. I am asking if the translation of the verse at KJV Colossians 1:15 is in contention.(Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn
of every creature:)
If it is not and you make a literal interpretation, it says that Jesus is of the creatures. In other words he was created. Hence how can he be god?
Cheers:^)
