Survey finds 10 partners before marriage 'normal'
The majority of young people think it is normal for a person to have at least 10 sexual partners before marriage.
A survey has also found that three in 10 believe it is acceptable for a girl to lose her virginity before the age of 15.
Research carried out by Brook, the youth sex advisory service, says there is a "cultural change" in young people's attitudes towards sex.
Some 64% of men and 54% of women agreed that it was acceptable for a person to sleep with more than 10 partners before getting married.
But the survey, which questioned people aged 17 to 25, also showed that they wanted more information about sex and contraception.
Men admitted to getting most of their knowledge about contraception from TV and magazines, while women learned the most from magazines and their mothers.
Half of all the young women surveyed said they wished that teachers had supplied them with more information about preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
Brook chief executive Jan Barlow said: "Young people have an increasing number of sexual partners and they are saying that's OK.
"But at the same time they don't have the information and access to services that they need.
"Young people must seek out advice and information in order to make their choices and to understand how to protect themselves both against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases."
Apparently you don't do well in reading comprehension...oh, excuse me, I need to use smaller words...it looks like you don't understand what you read very well. Where have I ever said that? Show me even one post where I ever said America deserved that. You can't.
I don't agree with the person who said that, but I also don't agree with you hanging a perjorative term on them rather than addressing the actual statement. Why don't you look behind the statement and address the reason for it? Once again, I will ask you: What is your belief about the sins of the people of this country? Do you agree with and approve of Abortion? Do you agree with and promote homosexuality? Are you a homosexual yourself? Do you want drug laws repealed, and drugs legalized? Do you have any concern at all for the people of our nation? Do you not see that "as go the people, so goes the nation"? Do you not reverence God? Deal with the issues instead of calling us "Talibornagain" and accusing us of their tactics. You know nothing of them, you know nothing of Christianity to be making the statements you are. You are displaying anything but a Christian attitude.
Purity derived through terror can hardly be called purity.
My wife and I lived together for three years before getting married. We have been married for 27 years. I have no doubt we will stay happily married until death do us part.
Hardly. It's rather presumptuous of you to pretend to know why I would refuse to answer your questions.
If you must know, I've learned enough about human nature to see that people who take a morally indefensible stand usually zero in on a very small part of an argument. They then proceed to badger people into answering questions that will merely make them feel better about their own position. Whether I have a daughter, whether my wife and I had premarital sex, what I think my hypothetical daughter might do in a given situation - it's all nunya bidness.
I will leave you with this thought - stop obsessing about the quality of the sex, and start obsessing with how you can best serve your spouse. Be a helpmeet. Be a shoulder to cry on. Be a rock when you need to be. Be a best friend. Most of all, make a commitment to yourself and your spouse-to-be that, whatever comes, you will be by her side. Promise her and yourself that you will not turn your back on her. Believe in your heart of hearts that the two of you need each other. Without her you cannot be complete.
Then, and only then, will the sex get better and better.
If you can't honestly say that you will promise to do the aforementioned things, then don't marry this girl. She deserves better. We all do.
Nobody calls me wise and gets away with it. I'm not old enough yet to be wise. ;^)
I will be judged for my very own sins.
Stop worrying about everyone else's sins and look to your own.
America is not Sodom or Gomorrah. I can find many, many Godly men (and women) here.
Men like Todd Beamer. That's the kind of Christian I strive to be.
America is loaded with guys and gals like that. I've had the distinct pleasure of knowing more than my fair share of such good Godly folks.
The America I've seen has more of these kinds of folks than you want to believe. If all you see is the sin of others and you are surrounded by sin, it is your own fault, not your country's.
You sure do like to ask questions.
This one almost sounds like, "What are you wearing?" ;^D
Weren't those Bible Belt statistics part of a study that also pointed out the difference in divorce rates among Catholics and Evangelicals? I don't see those statistics pointing toward location at all. What they do show is the different emphasis each religion puts on the concept of the indissolubility of marriage. If you are thinking of the same study I am, it in NO WAY dismissed the importance of a Christian background to a successful marriage.
"Train a child up in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it". "Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction will drive it far from him". "He that spareth the rod hateth his son".
I didn't say anything about terror, you did. My children knew that it was not acceptable to do those kind of things at that age, and they knew punishment would follow. Say what you will, but the prospect of punishment for violating clear-cut rules and principles goes a long way toward preventing them from happening. The rod spoken of in the above quotes is not necessarily a literal rod, it is the authority and weight of responsibility of being a parent. Punishment takes many forms, but it is designed to be unpleasant and undesirable, which teaches the lesson the right behavior is rewarded, and wrong behavior costs something dear to the recipient.
You know something? It works. I have a son and 2 daughters that any man would be proud of, and they have all thanked me for being firm and fair with the discipline. It molded their character, and made them responsible and productive citizens. Kids don't innately know how to be that, you have to train and teach them, sometimes with words.
I mentioned that life sucks lately.... right?
