Survey finds 10 partners before marriage 'normal'

Survey finds 10 partners before marriage 'normal'

The majority of young people think it is normal for a person to have at least 10 sexual partners before marriage.

A survey has also found that three in 10 believe it is acceptable for a girl to lose her virginity before the age of 15.

Research carried out by Brook, the youth sex advisory service, says there is a "cultural change" in young people's attitudes towards sex.

Some 64% of men and 54% of women agreed that it was acceptable for a person to sleep with more than 10 partners before getting married.

But the survey, which questioned people aged 17 to 25, also showed that they wanted more information about sex and contraception.

Men admitted to getting most of their knowledge about contraception from TV and magazines, while women learned the most from magazines and their mothers.

Half of all the young women surveyed said they wished that teachers had supplied them with more information about preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

Brook chief executive Jan Barlow said: "Young people have an increasing number of sexual partners and they are saying that's OK.

"But at the same time they don't have the information and access to services that they need.

"Young people must seek out advice and information in order to make their choices and to understand how to protect themselves both against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases."

Does that mean non-Christians have never had great sex?
In short, yes.

That was a reducio ad absurdum question. The answer stands for itself.

Then it obviously failed as you didn't demonstrate anything to be absurd. To do so you must define 'great sex'. I'll make it easy on you. Great sex is defined by both participants being fully engaged and satisified in mind, body and spirit.

A non Christian can never have great sex as they cannot be satisfied in spirit. They can have good physical and emotional sex but since they are spiritually dead they cannot experience great sex until after they get SAVED.

This has become very much like describing the color red to a blind person. I can give you the technical description but you'll never understand until you experience Jesus' love for yourself.

They are indeed proud to be pure, and also all too rare, brother.

Unfortunately that is true. Yet another step the "free-love if it feels good do it" crowd has dragged us toward the sewer

What?!!! How do they ever meet their future mate if they can't date and get to know them? Do they just marry someone from the "group"?

You dont have to date someone to know them. And you don't have to sleep with them to know your compatible. They wait until God brings the right one along and then theystart a courtship. Still no private dates and no opportunity to sin before the wedding. Working great so far. no divorces in the last 8 years or so and lots of very happy young couples.

Why would it make a difference if they were dating or not. Your question was are they virginal by choice. Of course they are. They just choose to protect their purity by not putting themselves in temptations way. Sounds pretty smart to me. (Wish I had done it)

Just say no to drugs.

If I remember correctly that program worked pretty well. At least it did around here. Drug usage took a dive and hasn't rebounded. Took a whole generation of potential dopers out of the cycle

Never heard of abstinence, huh? No worry about disease, condoms breaking, accidents happening, babies on the way...nah, that's old fashioned!

John O, what is your belief on per-marital masturbation and masturbation in general

In the greater scheme of things masturbation and pre-marital sex are the same. Empty worthless substitutes for the real thing. Your better off avoiding them both. Sex is best with your mate in a good Christian marriage.

No they aren't. If they aren't permitted to go on dates, or are never in a position to "sin", then they aren't CHOOSING to remain a virgin. They have NO choice in the matter. That's like telling me that I choose not to swim when I'm sitting in the middle of the desert.

They are not choosing. Can you at least agree with that? You are choosing for them.

They are. You aren't spiritually alive until you are born of the spirit. And you get born of the spirit by giving your life to Jesus as Lord and Savior. None of those groups have done this. they are spiritually dead.

Learn something new every day on FR don't you?

I have seen many of these kinds of marriages...unfortunately these kids don't learn to communicate fully with members of the opposite sex. The resulting marriage is built around escapism. The men either get heavily into golf or spend most of their time in front of the TV watching John Wayne Movies or NASCAR, and the women drink tea with their friends from the garden club.

IMHO, sheltering an individual from dating doesn't help them to trust themselves or to become a rational adult.

That's the point. The Big Book has all of the store-bought answers we need. Any problems in a marriage are a result of not enough Jesus, pure and simple.

Not dating is something to which many Christian youth groups ascribe these days. In our church they have decided not to date but to ask God to bring them the right one. It does work. People can have a lot of fun with the opposite sex without dating. My friend wouldn't let her daughter date in high school. She said teenage-hood was a time to be educated for the future. She didn't miss out on a thing! When she and her boyfriend got married, she was a virgin. A rare commodity these days.

If they aren't permitted to go on dates

They are permitted to do whatever they want. They CHOOSE not to date. Therefore they are virgins by choice.

amazingly the marriages you describe sound like the pre-marital sex addict lost people marriages I've seen.

The non-dating marriages have been incredibly successful. The kids learn how to communicate far better because they are not constantly trying to get into her pants or keep him out of her pants. No sexual distractions so they can actually get to know each other. It's amazing how interesting a girl can be once you get your mind out of her knickers.

"Your better off avoiding them both. Sex is best with your mate in a good Christian marriage."

How many 15-25 year olds in your Christian groups do you think are abstaining from masturbation? In the male category I would venture a guess somewhere around 0%.

I don't know of a single guy on Earth that hasn't masturbated, including two Catholic priests that I know!

I know married men, and men in serious relationships that can't give up their hand.

They just choose to protect their purity by not putting themselves in temptations way.

You won't die in a car crash in jail, but that doesn't mean jail is a good place to be. It is their choice and I fully respect that, but I really don't see why someone would trade something that offers honest utility (e.g. dating) simply because the potential exists for misuse. Do they not own any sharp objects either? I can only imagine that it is a weak-minded person that feels they lack so much control that they have to put themselves in a padded cell so to speak. Moral strength is the ability to face temptation and ignore it; individuals with real strength of character don't need to hide from temptation because they won't succumb to it.

At this college, where I work, kids are always "connecting." Connecting is just having sex. Doesn't matter if you have a long-term relationship, it's just screwing or Lewinsky-ing. Morals have certainly taken a radical downward slide since I was a teenager. You didn't dare "do it." Your mom would have killed you.

or maybe they just understand that dating is a waste of time and they can have so much more fun and far more fulfilling lives by not dating.

Admit it. Dating takes a lot of energy, especially in a relationship. There's always some one else's opinion that has to be counted and your realm of action is severely limited. By not dating, but by hanging around with the group and socializing as a group, you get to know more people, get to do more things, get to have more fun, and don't have to get weighed down with the heaviness of dating. Wish I'd done it that way. I would have had much more fun.

What if they wanted to date? Would you LET them? It doesn't sound like it.

Don't you trust them to date and not have sex? Or if they chose to have sex, that it was a decision they arrived at rationally?
