Bush comes back to return Marine's salute
FOX NEWS CHANNEL Special Report ^ | 11/30/01 | Norb

Posted on 11/30/2001 4:05:33 PM PST by Norb2569

On tonight's Special Report with Brit Hume, (hosted by Jim Angle this evening), at the close of the show when they normally have some funny video clip, they showed President Bush and the First Lady on their way to Marine One to leave for Camp David for the weekend. Jim said "You will see the president notice something unusual on his way to Marine One".

As the video starts, the First Lady is leading the way into the helicopter with the spaniel dog on the leash, and the president is right behind her with the Scotty on the leash.

As the First Lady entered the chopper, the Marine at the gangway saluted and held his salute. The scottie the president was walking decided it wanted to squat right when he got to steps. The president pulled on its' leash, but the stubborn scottie persisted in squatting. The president bent down and scooped up the pooch and entered Marine One. After he entered the Marine cut his salute and returned to the position of attention.

Moments later the president reemerged from the helicopter and out onto the steps. The Marine was standing at attention, head and eyes straight ahead. The president leaned over and tapped him on the left arm. The startled Marine turned his body toward the president and received his returned salute!

I was so impressed by this true act of respect for our military people by our president! He really does get it. Most any other person of his staure would have just continued his journey, disregarding the neglected return salute. Not George W. Bush. He is earning the respect of the military community, not expecting it - as most would.

Hey, you two turkeys:

To paraphrase a well-known song,
When you're running down my President, you're walking on the fighting side of me!

Calling Dubya a socialist is like calling me anti-military. Get a clue!

If the Clintons were in an SUV, they would probably try to run him down...much less a "limp" salute.

Wasn't there a story about how a marine's salute was never given to clinton when he boarded Marine One or maybe it was clinton who never returned the salute. God Bless George W. Bush! I'm proud I voted for this man.

I recall them always saluting Bubba. I also remember seeing him return salutes, but it always had that Mike-Dukakis-riding-in-a-tank feel to it. He just looked goofy doing it.

Y'know, he is a SOCIALIST. But he's a good guy. Seriously.
Had enough? I just don't think I can add anything to what's already been stated to your snide comment there. But let me try, just for grins:

......., you might be a Clinton

Hope your day tomorrow is better than this day? ;-)

First chance to check FR since about 5:30 today. Found this wonderful thread. Would never have known about this gesture - so gracious, so magnificent - by our wonderful President - except for this post and all tremendous responses (well most all have been fantastic...with a few notable exceptions).

One more opportunity to thank God for our President.

What a contrast! A Commander In Chief who LOVES instead of LOATHES those in the military!

Priceless moments these. More motivation to pray at every possible moment for this good man and his wife and family and team members! And, of course, for all our military men and women - especially those on the front lines at this very moment - working hard to take justice to the terrorists! PRAY FOR VICTORY over the terrorists, everyone! PRAY FOR VICTORY in this war over evil! PRAY FOR US TO FIND AND SEND JUSTICE TO OMAR AND OSAMA !

A dyed-in-the-wool Alan Keyes supporter who, although I of course worked for and voted for Governor Bush, have held a bit in reserve for him, even I am by the day beginning to understand the depth of Our President's political skill -- and potential greatness!

[And my Dad always told me you will learn a great deal more about a man by watching how he treats those who wield no authority over him -- the "little people" -- than by seeing him with the "big shots"]

Way to go, Mr President!

Per Adua Ad Astra!

Your dad possessed great wisdom, my FRiend.

I am thankful that so many people were able to see this story on FOX, and so many got to read about it here on FR.

I hope many of our servicemembers and veterans and fellow citizens as well, can hear about this incident and see the humilty of this man who is our president!

Thank you, President Bush, for giving us what we truly need: CHARACTER!
