Bush comes back to return Marine's salute
FOX NEWS CHANNEL Special Report ^ | 11/30/01 | Norb

Posted on 11/30/2001 4:05:33 PM PST by Norb2569

On tonight's Special Report with Brit Hume, (hosted by Jim Angle this evening), at the close of the show when they normally have some funny video clip, they showed President Bush and the First Lady on their way to Marine One to leave for Camp David for the weekend. Jim said "You will see the president notice something unusual on his way to Marine One".

As the video starts, the First Lady is leading the way into the helicopter with the spaniel dog on the leash, and the president is right behind her with the Scotty on the leash.

As the First Lady entered the chopper, the Marine at the gangway saluted and held his salute. The scottie the president was walking decided it wanted to squat right when he got to steps. The president pulled on its' leash, but the stubborn scottie persisted in squatting. The president bent down and scooped up the pooch and entered Marine One. After he entered the Marine cut his salute and returned to the position of attention.

Moments later the president reemerged from the helicopter and out onto the steps. The Marine was standing at attention, head and eyes straight ahead. The president leaned over and tapped him on the left arm. The startled Marine turned his body toward the president and received his returned salute!

I was so impressed by this true act of respect for our military people by our president! He really does get it. Most any other person of his staure would have just continued his journey, disregarding the neglected return salute. Not George W. Bush. He is earning the respect of the military community, not expecting it - as most would.

"Anyone who makes such stupid comments needs to have 'pole removed from posterior end.'"

"Sounds like you haven't had your pole removed yet today!!"

Thanks, Norb, I never could figure out what she/he was talking about!
I guess it was my comments to Cato, but I sure would like the opportunity to engage in this if I could figure out what it's about!

I am glad.

CHIEF negotitor on here made me an Honorary Marine. It meant so much to me and always will.

I love all the branches but the Marines, well there is just something special about the Marines to me. Most of my Uncles were Marines, and cousins too.

Thank you soooo much.

If anyone gets a video clip of this or a series of photos, I would dearly love to see it. . .What a great president! I keep telling my sons to be courteous, because courtesy goes a long way with people living in a discourteous world. President Bush is the epitome of courtesy.

"All right, I've been lurking around tonight, but this dude really po'd me. I'm looking for a few good Freepers so that we can make sure Corn on the Cob1 gets 'de-poled'. Anyone who makes such stupid comments needs to have 'pole removed from posterior end.'"

Are you referring to the comments I made to Cato?
Do you need a "few good Freepers" to back you up, dude ?
Are you afraid to try it all by yourself, dude ?

Thanks for the bump. This respect should be expected particularly of CIC who has had to send our men into action. The contrast with Clinton makes the norm seem exceptional. The American people have been too use to electing people who don't have a firm grasp of the fundamentals. In Bush they have a man who does understand what it means to serve our nation, and to honor those who fearlessly put themselves between the evil doers and our people. I hope we don't forget the importance of having Presidents who value the nation before self, death before dishonor.

Excellent! It's the little things that make the difference. IMHO, this is just one more example of the dignity and sincerety of George W. Bush. Example after example, I am refreshed to see this change from the prior administration. Thanks to God and the voters for putting dignity back into the White House! Many thanks for the post, and I agree with your opinion 100%, friend!

Thanks for the ping, Sabertooth!

Wow! This is hysterical. I'm an a**hole, I know nothing about W, yada yada yada.

There are a few things I DO know, and I'm gettin' kinda sick of repeating 'em over and over. So listen, one last time, then get back on your ad hominem attacks on me:

1. Bush's Education bill -- 100% pure, unadulterated Socialism.

2. Bush's prescription drug benefit -- Socialism.

3. The Bush EPA and Interior Department antics -- pure Socialism.

4. Bush's usurpation of power and destruction of our liberty -- whoops, sorry...that's totalitarianism, my mistake.

Some day you'll just have to face it. He is what he is. But (and I REALLY meant this)...he's a good guy.

Okay...back to attacking me. After all, it's my fault that he's a Socialist.

If you saw ever Clinton's sloppy salute, you would think he was grabbing his crotch.

I checked out the site you linked.
They talked to a public affairs Sargeant and by the article he identified the presidentual squadron as HM-1 Not HMX-1 so what you might say well an HM is a navy helicopter minesweeper squadron and there is only one HMX in the Marine Corps. Do I put any faith in that story, well having known members of HMX-1, let's just say they are very careful not to show any disrespect, that doesn't mean that sometimes they don't slip up.

Also saw this on FOX....GWB is a humble man who isn't 'full of himself' like x42. He obviously has great respect for our military men & women and his actions speak loudly.

It reminded me of how he waited at the foot of the bed for the wounded Army officer from the Pentagon to complete his salute.....also showing great respect.

Isn't it wonderful to finally have a Commander in Chief worthy of the name?

As for that little pooch Barney...I wish he'd learn to walk up the stairs.
