WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Federal Election Commission on Thursday rejected a Democratic request for a break on a "soft money" spending rule to make up for slower fund raising after the terrorist attacks.
The Democratic National Committee says it canceled or postponed at least eight fund-raisers in the three weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, depriving it of an anticipated $1.65 million.

George Will worte a column about this, pointing out the demonRATS hypocrisy on soft money. They love to make the rules, but they don't like to live by them themselves. Anyway, what the demonRATS wanted was for the FEC to suspend a law for a period of time, a power they clearly do NOT have. Grossly unConstitutional request.

The Federal Election Commissioners are extremely politicized. 3-3 votes along party lines are very common.

"Please, sirs, we're in a terrible funding catastrophy! The Pubs have thousands of contributors who give them fifty dollars here, a thousand dollars there in hard money. We've only got fifteen regular contributors, Babs and Tony and Susan and such. (Look at the contribution in the Florida post-Election debacle and you'll see what I mean.) They've got billions they want to give us, the unstinting dears. But it's all this "soft money" that we can't use! The Pubs have got an unfair advantage! It's not fair! We've got all this money and we can't use it! Waaaah! Waaaaaaah!"

Why, I thought it was the Democrats who were opposed to soft money? That's what they said. They did. (heh, heh, heh--what a bunch of hypocrites.)
To: DeaconBenjamin
I know they are extremely partisan but it sure works for me that the RATS couldn't pull off their little stunt especially after the morons supported McCain/Feingold!

"Pity, ain't it?Yes. Quite tragic. The Rats are due for a lot more hurt, imho, esp. in light of Dasshole and Leahy's antics on the homefront....

Yep a pity.... and Texas just got a fantastic ruling on the State Legislative redistricting and may be able to carry that forward into a Congressional majority in 04, if they've got the cajones.
