TBN Televangelists Buy $5,000,000 Home
Deception in the Church ^ | Nov.4,2001, page K15 | LOS ANGELES TIMES,

DITC Commentary: Ever wonder where all those "seed faith" dontations are going? Whose getting rich again? Remind me. It thought it was those people who sent in their seed faith donations who were going to get a "100 fold increase" and that they would be the ones buying luxury homes. What a shock to find out it doesn't work out that way! Duh!!!!

Televangelists JAN and PAUL CROUCH of the Costa Mesa-based Trinity Broadcasting Network have purchased a Newport Beach house for close to $5 million, Orange County Realtors say.

Paul Crouch owns one of the largest television natworks in the world. Yet compared to Ted Turner, who used to own a little cable news channel that nobody ever watches, Crouch lives like a pauper.

I don't like Jan and Paul's theology. But THEY believe it and THEY are sincere about it. They may be sincerely wrong, but unless we actually contribute to their network then we have no cause to complain, do we? I don't contribute to their network, but my church buys time on their network, and I believe that my church donations that are used for that purpose are being used to spread the gospel. Now, if that makes Jan and Paul rich, then God bless 'em!

I can't find the entire song's lyrics, but here's the chorus to a song that directly makes fun of televangelists ( and justifiably so): Ray Stevens' "Would Jesus Wear a Rolex?"

Here's another one:

SEND ME YOUR MONEY
(lyrics by Mike Muir of Suicidal Tendencies)

Lights, camera, silence on the set
Tape rolling, 3-2-1-action
Welcome to the church of Suicidal
We'll have a service and wonderful recital
But before we go on, there's something I must mention
An important message I must bring to your attention
I was in meditation and prayer last night
I was awakened by a shining bright light
Over head, a glorious spirit
He gave me a message and you all need to hear it

"Send me your money", that's what he said
He said to "Send me your money"
Now if you can only send a dollar or two
There ain't a hell of a lot I can do for you
But, if you want to see heaven's door
Make a check out for five hundred or more
"Send me your money", do you here what I'm saying?
"Send me your money"

Now give me some bass, um yea that's how he likes it
Now give me some silence, for all you sinners
Now give me some bass, yea that was funky
Now take them on home Brother Clark, send me your ...money

Here comes another con hiding behind a collar
His only god is the almighty dollar
He ain’t no prophet, he ain’t no healer
He's just a two bit goddamn money stealer

Send me your money
Send it, you got to send it
Send me your money
You hear what I'm saying?
Send it, send it
Send me your money

Now how much you give is your own choice
But to me it's the difference between a Porsche and a Rolls Royce
I want you to make it hurt when you dig into your pocket
I want you to make it hurt!
We'll take cash, we'll take checks
We'll take credit cards, we'll take jewelry
We'll take your momma's dentures if they got gold in them
So whose gonna be the next king of the fakers
Whose gonna take the place of Jim and Tammy Faye Baker?
See my momma, she didn't raise no fool
Cause you can't put a price on a miracle
Amen

>It is not about judging others by their appearance (the way they look) but instead by their appearance (the manner in which they behave).

Since when was that any of YOUR business?

>The ONLY visible means of income for the crouches and TBN are donations from viewers.

Visible to WHOM? What special insight and vision do you have? Your excessive Zeaal may buy you a special place in Hell reserved for the Judgemental.

I've noticed for every impulse in human behavior, a contradictory one will spring up to battle it.

Community, War. Hope, Angst. 401Ks, Televangelists.

There's clearly nothing fake about these people. All you have to do is look at her makeup and wig. They have to be the goofyist looking people on TV.

Why don't you post a picture of yourself on this thread so that you can be judged by the same standard that you judge others?

I dare you.

In the bible, Jesus's "purse" of money was never empty, but he never went out and bought a new robe or new sandals with it...He used it to spread the Gospel of his father by giving to the needy and furthering his ministry...all for the glorifying of his father...Not to make his life better, not so he could live in luxury.

Ummmm... Jesus wore a seamless robe...so valuable that the Roman soldiers cast lots for it. He used creative miracles to feed the multitudes.... and He needed a treasurer to keep track of all the money He had. Your perception would make null and void His promises and desires for us...

Luke 6:

38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

3 John 1:

2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

How many bibles could that money have bought? How many poor family's could it have feed, housed, or clothed?

My very first NIV was given to me by TBN for FREE. You can call them up and ask for one and they will give it to you. They also have a bible program where they send them all over the world. They also have benevolence programs (food/medical) around the world and sponsor (help pay for) alot of other ministries who are just getting started and can't afford air time.. so they too can minister to the world. They have launched satellites and put in Christian stations around the world.. in order to have non-commercial sponsored, 24 hr Christian TV. I would suggest you do some serious research. They will open their books to anyone who would care to look, for they have nothing to hide.

I don't see how anyone with their heart truly focused on God's word and the furthering of his kingdom could spend money in this magnitude on themselves...I am not here to judge these peoples heart for God for that is not my job, but the fruits they have born are not of a good tree...

But you ARE judging them... without all the facts and without knowing their hearts... or what they've personally sacrificed over the years to put forth the Gospel throughout the world. I've watched them from 1982 grow into what they are today. Have you watched more than a few moments... before making an opinion of what and who they are?

I also know in the bible it says that if a brother(or sister) should stumble, it is up to their brothers(and sisters) in Christ to point this out and help them repent...usually this would be done by your pastor or some elder in your church that knows you and understands your walk with God...your walk isn't supposed to be a secret from all others..God says to correct your brothers mistakes...this isn't judging his relationship with Christ, but it is correcting a mistake, and we all make them...

They've always been very explicit about encouraging their viewers to support their local church with their tithes. They ask for offerings twice a year with their one week telethons. BTW, what other ministry has reached the far corners of the earth.... with radio and TV broadcasts...in the way that TBN has? It takes MILLIONS to do just that...not including everything else they do. Missionaries go to remote places but are limited to small areas (which TBN also supports) with limited populations.

Proverbs 13

21 Misfortune pursues the sinner, but prosperity is the reward of the righteous.

22 A good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous.

Psalm 128

1 Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways.

2 You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.

Proverbs 8

20 I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice,

21 bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full.

Sounds to me like God doesn't want us to live like paupers! What is 5 million to God? We're the ones who count the decimals. HE owns it all. :) God Bless.

RE:I agree with what you are saying. People do not always know what really goes on in some TV ministries.

The King is Coming is on of them. Their President Dave Breese had a massive stroke about three or four years ago. They have never told the people that he is unable to do anything. He has not written his own books or news letters for years. They are written by a man that has a horrible life style, he can not tell the truth. He is very much like Bill Clinton.

Mrs. Estep along with her husband Howard C. Estep started the ministry years ago. She will not let food or help be given out to the hungry people that come to the door for help. She and her friends go out for dinner almost every night on the ministry credit card. You should see her when she thinks someone has money. Its unbelieveable. I just feel that everyone should be truthful at all times.

If drooling all over yourself in a wheelchair with hundreds of gonorrhea infected sluts at your beck and call is your definition of success, then Larry Flint is king.

If anyone here thinks they can do a better job of spreading the Gospel on TV, then they should start their own network.

Amen. I wonder how many of these people here dip into their own pockets to buy bibles or feed/clothe the poor instead of finding a bigger and better place to live? How do they know it's not just an investment? Up until a few years ago... I know Jan talked about living in the same little house they raised their family in. They didn't see the point in buying bigger, because they travel so much...trying to set up new stations around the world and tending to their outreach ministries.

Well, I don't care to post a picture of myself. However, I was voted best looking guy in my senior class in high school. I received another such award in college. I really didn't care much for such awards. In fact, they sort of embarrassed me.

I don't believe eveyone has to be beautiful. I've certainly dated women that weren't considered supermodels. It's important that I be attracted to any woman I date. However, it's probably even more important that I connect with them mentally. I am only adding this because I don't want you to think I am some shallow idiot. Will I post a picture for you? No.

Again, I think the woman looks like a clown with all the makeup.

I am defending them, but I don't watch them. I don't agree with much of their theology. But everyone seems to comment on how they dress and how they wear their hair. Frankly they don't look any stupider than some priest dressed in a gold lined robe and a guilded dunce cap and they clearly don't dress anywhere near as gaudy as the Pope. These people are the popes of Christian Television. If they want to dress gaudy, then who are these catholics and episcopalians to criticize them for the way they dress?

Is Jan Crouch the lady with the pinkish wig? I could tell she was a fake to begin with!

Jan could stop a snot slinging rhino charge with that grill and makeup.

We used a pic of her to shock train a buddy's dog off rattlesnakes. Poor dog, he ain't been the same since. Walkin round shaking all over like he's passing a peach pit or sumpin.

To be sure the Crouch's occasionally at odd hours sell time to Trinitarians such as Charles Stanley, D. James Kennedy, Greg Laurie but the vast majority of what they push comes straight of heretical Oneness Pentecostalism and the Word Faith movement.

Prosperity peddlers, Robert Tilton, Ken Hagin, and Ken Copeland. Benny Hinn, Marilyn Hickey, I could go on.

Name It And Claim it. The Positive Confession Movement. Here is a great article from Biblical Discernment Ministries

The TBN "facility", for lack of a better word, is in nearby Costa Mesa. It is a garish white building in Greek/Roman style, visible from the 405 freeway. Any locals you ask will speak of the facility with derision. It is covered with while light bulbs which burn every night. One Christmas they installed a large Happy Birthday Jesus sign on the top of the building. They never took it down. Guess they celebrate Christmas 365 days a year.

There was a newspaper article that ran here with an interview of the master carpenter who did Paul's office. He basically said it was way way over the top with South American one of a kind wood for the paneling and woodwork. The carpenter quit before finishing saying he was a ballbuster and delusional.

I think the real miracle is how Benny Hinn's hair can be cantilevered off of his forehead so far and not hang down like bangs.

You want anti gravity and hair? Splain this?
