What is a Soccer Mom?

My husband asked me this tonight and I could't come up with a textbook definition.

The best I could do was say, "Oh so & so is a soccer mom" etc. Well, that wasn't good enough, he wanted a definition. So, what IS a soccer mom?

Thank you and the others for the kind words. I have a sister-in-law who is one, so I have been able to observe the characteristics first hand. The mythical perfect soccer mom would be that preachy woman in the comic strip "For Better Or Worse." She is textbook. One of those things I look at because I hate it so much. Can't explain.

'An NEA-worshipping ditz' is right. And, when her daughter comes home from school and tells her that she put a condom on a banana in sex ed, Soccer Mom thinks that her daughter is very lucky to be in such a wonderful school.

A Soccor Mom is a female who decision making process is driven by a liberal story line. For example a politican creating "FEAR" and then puts this fear on the backs of the children.

Is the media image beginning to emerge?? For example, to stop crime, take all guns away because gun kill children. Not stop criminals.

This politican has just grabbed a vote by manipulation of the female mind to protect her children.

In the last election, Male voters for Bush was 49 of 50 states. Soccor Moms for Bush was approximately 35 states for Bush and 15 states for Clinton and Gore.

Soccor MOMS are FEAR DRIVEN VOTERS.

That's exactly what I mean. You can't explain it (though you did a wonderful job), it's just easier to say, "Mary Jane is a soccer mom" etc.

You will know a soccer mom when you see her.
-She is the one who is screaming at the referee about some minor infraction (to her baby) only she saw.
-She is probably also screaming out to her child trying to encourage retaliation or unsportsmanlike play.
-She selected soccer for her child as a substitute for the manly games like football or lacrosse, which are too dangerous for her delicate offspring.
-It is primarily about excercise for the child. Notice the fitness of the child. If he is amply padded, his mom is probably a soccer mom.
-She lives in a large house in an expensive neighborhood. Sufficiently expensive to price the "riff-raff" out of the market. She then favors housing projects and section-8 housing in the middle class heighborhoods.
-She might even send her child to a private school but complains about a "lack of diversity" in the student population. To her, it isn't about buying the best education she can afford for her child, but about joining a club of enlightened parents.
-Oh, she doesn't have to be a woman. There are scads of testosterone-deficient men who could be best described as soccer moms. And they mostly vote democrat, which is why the press loves them so.

This is off the subject a bit but It could be a trend in the rest of the country. Here in Kalifornia you may know they do not keep score in kids soccer as there can be no losers. Half way into this past season the league told my daughter and husband not to cheer for their son or his friend because some of the other kids didn't have any one here to cheer for them!
