November 24, 2001 -- Is Harry Potter the spawn of Satan?

That's the opinion at one Christian school in southern Australia, where parents voted yesterday to forbid students from reading about the bespectacled wizard and his preteen cohorts.

The vote was just part of a widespread anti-Harry backlash by religious conservatives angered by the best-selling books' blatant celebration of witchcraft and the occult.

These reasons are part of why you aren't respected, and your arrogance is why you get true Christianity rejected on a routine basis.

Harbor...I really do not care who goes to see what..but I do care if the word of God is not being presented correctly. You do not have to believe it..but if you say you are a Christian then that is the measure that has to be used..

We live in a worldly,secular culture..this film fits nicely...

I just find it interesting that some of the same people that deny that God was allowed the events of 9/11 to fall on us are often the same ones defending this..

I would imagine the very Reverend's who commanded the burning, drowning, and stoning deaths of the 'witches' they found through a 'trial' felt they were very good christians doing an important work for God.

Never forget that. When you think you know Gods will, and then speak it, you take his name in all of your own glorious Vanity. Hmm that reminds me of a comandment... No quote can change that.

Thanks Mary Ann. Don't worry I always stay close to the faith. I believe very strongly in the value system and the basic good that value system can mean for people. What I don't believe in are the more mystical aspects (could also be related to finding out just how bogus the occult is, once you work your way through debunking one brand of spiritualism). Except for the actually going to church and praying and stuff I'm right there with the Christian duties (my Christian Coalition coworker (who's the guy that turned me onto FR) says I score better on their Christian Values test than a lot of folks in Congress that claim to have the faith, it's one of our points of humor) of kindness, charity, loyalty, honor (you know, 7 out of the 10 commandments). And I still care about the faith and I'm with you guys on a lot of issues (the ACLU censorship things make my blood boil). Stay well, I'm with you. Joe

Joe, I care enough about you to tell you the truth..if you died tonight,unless you have come to the cross you would not go to heaven.I do not say that to be unkind or hurtful..but it is what the bible tells us..

We do not go to heaven because we are nice people,or good people,or because we deserve it..

We are so full of sin that the only way for God to allow us into His Holy Sinless presence was for Him to come down here in person and to pay the price for our sins Himself.The Bible tells us that we are all sinners ,and when God looks down on us He see filthy rags filled with a womans monthly discharge..rags covered with the pus of lepers.

So I could be very nice in a worldly kind of way and tell you as your friend did that you are "better" than some of the coalition men he knows .....but the one difference may be that when God looks at those men He sees the blood of His Son covering their filth...unless you have confessed your sins and sought the forgivness of Christ..and unless you have acknowleged your need for a Savior..and asked Christ into your heart..it will not matter one bit how "nice" you are.

Contrary to "popular" opinion here...I do not see myself as some "special" person.....but as I am a filthy rag pulled from the fire by Jesus Christ.....one that needs Him daily..to love and forgive her...

The only way to know God's will is what He has told us..and that is found in His word..He hates witchcraft.

Now you would like to divert attention away from God's hatred of witchcraft and focus on the burning of witches..a kind of bait and switch

Don't put words in my mouth or try to read the intent of my heart..Witchcraft is an abomination to a holy God..now you may want to go to the movie and take your kids to the movie so go...but you can never tell God you did it in ignorance.

Catholics often see Christians in that manner. The problem is that they believe the Word of God, practice the Word of God and encourage others to join the Body of Christ through gentle correction whereas you do not and resent them for this. That my friend is the plain truth. You are always welcome to become a Christian, a follower of Christ too.

I don't know if they like to be confused with the word of God! We have all been reassured that God has a great sense of humor,and he enjoys witchcraft fantasy .We know this because There is no explicit admonition not to see Harry Potter...seeeeeee isn't that easy??>:)

People need to get a grip. My entire family saw the movie and we loved it. There was even a scene where they celebrated Christmas. Are these people going to get hysterical over every movie that uses magical powers? If so, then we should complain about The Wizard of Oz and Matilda for starters. CHILL OUT -- It's fantasy!
