Thanksgiving and who's working on Friday?
Posted on 11/20/2001 1:01:04 PM PST by Tumbleweed_Connection
I realize there are industries which demand an employee's presence on Friday (banking, retail, automobile...), but just curious about those who have the opportunity to create a personal day if in fact the office is open, those who plan on being ill, those whose businesses are closed for the weekend...
Secondly, how does everyone handle Thanksgiving cooking? Personally we ended the family crap and started going to a cafeteria style restaurant, cheating all the way around.

What frequencies do you use? I'm assuming you run service for internet as well.

I too work in a hospital, but I run the network. I am off Thursday but on call, and Friday is a regular work day for me, but no one else in the department will be here that day. I am covering for all as it is my turn this year. Going to (my wife's) Grandma's house for dinner Thursday, then have to run out to work to drop my wife off, as she is working second shift to help cover (she's a nurse) for those who wanted off. Since I am tied to the local area due to being on call, it seemed like a good idea, since it is holiday pay with shift differential. At least they will pay me $50 just for being on call that day, and a two hour minimum if I get called in.

people need thier TV and Cable modem services I see you're in Texas. Maybe you keep my cable modem purring. You D*mn straight you better be on call!
After many years of boarding kennels, where holidays were my busiest time, I appreciate the time off, and those that have to work.

23 mghz for the return and 591.00 on the forward. You wouldn't belive how fast it really is on the net, and no, we don't have those slow times as dsl likes to advertise.

This will be my first Friday after Thanksgiving that I haven't worked. I've never been able to get off before, but since I got a promotion, I can use my leave time almost whenever I wish. Life is good.

But by Sunday afternoon, it's looking like Chevy Chase's Christmas Vacation around here. What all your furniture has been shoved out the window? The tree still has its roots attatched? There's a squirrel still inside?
(In case you can't tell, I love that movie.)

Only one way to cook a turkey, BBQ it on a Weber Kettle. Learn how
here.
As for the rest of the weekend, we'll be decorating for Christmas, inside and out. The toughest job is attaching reindeer antlers to the Koi in my pond.

no, we don't have those slow times as dsl likes to advertise.I run a speed test once in a while. Many times I am between 1 - 1.5 Mbs. That gives "Flyer" a whole new meaning.

What is internet, 1.5? And what good does digital do me when I have analog equipment? I'm not sacrificing my big screen until prices drop.

I will be working Friday at this vast multi-national, investment bank (where I spend my downtime at FR).

I'm *ahem* between jobs right now, but my husband will work all day on Thanksgiving and Friday. He's a manager at Luby's cafeteria, and he's already cooked about a hundred turkeys, plus all the fixins. But at least we don't have to pay for our dinner, and, well, at least I don't have to cook anthing!

That is true unless the Federal government mandates such closure.
I am in banking and will be working, primarily because, Comerce is my Goddess, Enterprise my religion and Business my business.......
Mostly though because it will be a very slow day with no phones going off and I can clean up a boatload of paperwork.

As a Fed worker - I'll be at my desk with an extremely busy morning - hopefully the afternoon will be quiter. Normally this is a "liberal leave" day, but I'm the project manager on something with a big deadline looming.
