What has happened to Free Republic
Me | Me

Posted on 11/19/2001 2:03:57 PM PST by FF578

Has anyone noticed that the Liberal influence has spread here into Free Republic. I notice that less and less Conservatives seem to post here, and more and more Libertarians seem to be.

I get a letter from someone named NYpeanut who is mad because I posted a discussion based on the Gender Gap in voting.

I didn't make it up, there is really a huge Gender gap with Female Voters tending toward the more liberal candidate. The discussion went well without name calling, but this person seems to have taken issue to the fact that I pointed out women seem to vote more liberally than men.

All those who are newbies here are considered disruptors, and those who hold a more right-winged view than the average libertarian seem to be kicked out.

Why is this? Is this a Libertarian site now?

I have noticed more and more posters standing up for Abortion, Homosexuality, the Porn Industry and Drugs since I first came to this site back before the 2000 Election.

Are Christian Conservatives(Who make up a large part of the Republican core vote) not allowed here anymore?

Just because one holds to a higher power, and wishes to shape society in accordance with the laws of Almighty God, does not make one a Taliban Milita member.

...is it after the first cell division?...

i appreciate your honesty. being pro-life, i am not arguing with you because the minutia would have no impact on your stance. however, i did want to correct a statement that others who are reading this thread might (and then again might not) appreciate:

life begins at conception. source = bible.

Maybe I'm totally ideosyncratic, but the drug wars on FR precipitate in me terminal ennui. Repetition, repetition, scanty hard data, lots of stident opinions, little reflection on the competing considerations. For me, they are total bore. I avoid the drug threads these days like the plague. But if most Freepers get their jollies off them, more power to them.

Paine still hardly sounds like a fundamentalist even at the end of his life. BTW, I can offhand only think of 2 Presidents in the 20th Century (Wilson & Carter) and 1 in the 19th Century (Hayes) who could be considered Fundamentalist. I think that the reason is that, until recently, most strongly religious people did not bother much with politics.

I read Jim's comments on a thread once where he stated that he was against legalization. His arguments were brilliant. He allows opinions on his forum, even if he doesn't agree with them. You talk to Jim like he's some sort of school boy.

It seems to me that you are confusing two different political animals. The difference is that libertarians just want to have their way and be left alone; liberals, on the other hand, want to have their way and bring everyone else along with them.

Can't we leave the Bible out of Political discussions? This is NOT a church. This is a POLITICAL discussion group.

I am anti war on drugs, and you have utterly failed to identify my motivation for being so. With respect to "liberals" posting something ridiculous, I have to let you know that every time I respond to an "Anti-Libertarian" thread, it is always just that. A rambling diatribe of a vanity post (originally posted by the religious authoritarian types) assailing libertarianism for everything the vanity poster perceives it to be. However, they (like you in this reply) get the majority of our motivation and philosophy utterly wrong, and people like me step in to defend our views, knowing full well we will be called everything from druggies to baby rapers by the likes of you, who apparently has no concept of freedom or personal responsibility.

How would you know? You don't sound 'conservative' to me. Authoritarian is more apt, imo.

Jim, would you like to comment on the 'infection' you have allowed here?

Here, I'll flag Jim too if that will make you feel better. Now do you have any kind of response to my post Mr. TPaine or does the extent of your knowledge end at your divination of my philosophy?

Chill out.

With one exception that I think was missing the /sarcasm tag, you were the first person to truly fly off the handle. I guess it's a girl thing.

I'd be fascinated to see what you can come up with in the way of Venn diagrams (which at least 70% of the time are pure cr*p) that somehow proves there is not a gender gap.

Of course there is a gender gap. Men and women are different. Every single study that starts out trying to prove differently either flounders on the rocks and shoals of reality or ends up getting trounced for falsifying data. By and large men are more violent and separational (things are good or bad, black or white, not shades of gray) whereas women are more nurturing and bonding. Men are basically stronger, women have bodies better adapted for long life. Women are designed to live long miserable lives and men short violent ones. Yes, there are exceptions. But those descriptions work on a statistical level for the population "Male Human" and the population "Female Human."

Given these differences (and every one of them is backed up by a relatively unbiased and peer reviewed study), it's no wonder that women and men, by and large, cannot decide on what the "right" candidate is.

To men this is an argument to repeal the 19th Amendment. Since you're obviously wrong. (separational, remember) To women it's a reason to make us sleep on the couch.

Chill.

keep your religion out of my life and i will do the same for you

deal. we would probably despise each others' religion anyway.

but we must come up with a few rules so that we can live together in peace and harmony -- agree?

I do know that to be conservative not to very long ago meant that you agreed with religious people more than leftists.

So leftists are NOT religious?

Sure some leftists are religous. Look at Bill and Hillary. Bill has a Bible bigger than a coffee book table.

I have a cousin married to a USC professor that's a born again Christian. She's a leftist and AntiWar - all the rest. I'm not very religious and consider myself rather conservative and HARD CORE Republican.

That's nice. Thanks for sharing.

That you believed freely available pornography was bad for people and society, not a "right" of the people. That drugs were harmful to people and society, not a "right" for the people. That true freedom is the right of society to restrict that which does harm, not encourage it.

IMO these issues you raise have NOTHING - ZERO to do with politics. They are personal, religious convinctions in nature. Pornography is not harmful to adults. Many of us use alcohol, cigarettes, grass... I have no problem with you and your beliefs and I grant you the RIGHT to believe them, but please don't expect me not to look at Playboy or smoke a little grass.

Yes, you're right. Same with bestiality, prostitution and kiddie porn...which will be the next targets of the left as soon as they convince enough "conservatives" that these are patriotic causes.

The thing I like most about the Taliban is that they have given everyone on the internet a break from calling each other Nazis.

You know, we probably do need an update for Godwin's law. However, if we call it Arkinsaw's law, won't that confuse people or remind them of x42's many scandals? Hmmmm... Maybe that's a good thing.
So, new rule: Eventually, all discussion on FR post-Sept. 11 will end up with someone being compared to the Taliban.
