What has happened to Free Republic
Me | Me

Posted on 11/19/2001 2:03:57 PM PST by FF578

Has anyone noticed that the Liberal influence has spread here into Free Republic. I notice that less and less Conservatives seem to post here, and more and more Libertarians seem to be.

I get a letter from someone named NYpeanut who is mad because I posted a discussion based on the Gender Gap in voting.

I didn't make it up, there is really a huge Gender gap with Female Voters tending toward the more liberal candidate. The discussion went well without name calling, but this person seems to have taken issue to the fact that I pointed out women seem to vote more liberally than men.

All those who are newbies here are considered disruptors, and those who hold a more right-winged view than the average libertarian seem to be kicked out.

Why is this? Is this a Libertarian site now?

I have noticed more and more posters standing up for Abortion, Homosexuality, the Porn Industry and Drugs since I first came to this site back before the 2000 Election.

Are Christian Conservatives(Who make up a large part of the Republican core vote) not allowed here anymore?

Just because one holds to a higher power, and wishes to shape society in accordance with the laws of Almighty God, does not make one a Taliban Milita member.

My message is meant to convey that that slim majority of libertarians has a disproportionate affect on how I (and I assume others) see libertarians as a whole.

(crossing fingers hoping it's not me) ;^]

If that isn't advocating the use of drugs then I'm a 7 foot Iraqi drag Queen named Fatima!

I have told you that I did not advocate their use any more than I advocate that people buy Yugos, but that I wouldn't put people in jail if they did (either activity). Why isn't this good enough for you?

If I were a woman and I decided that the right thing to do would be to have an abortion, for whatever reason, I certainly would not ask Big Brother for his opinion.

Because it does not afford him the opportunity to dress up like a tall homely Iraqi chick.

Excuse me, but a liberal is not the same thing as a libertarian. Do a little homework.

Just because a person is against our government outlawing a particular activity, it doesn't mean that that individual is in favor of said activity. Worry about your individual relationship with God, and don't worry about whether your neighbor is gettin a hummer or smoking a joint in his basement. Generally speaking, government's only legitimate roll is to protect the persons and properties of its citizens [e.g. punish and attempt to prevent murder (which includes abortion), protect property rights, protect our borders and assets from foreign enemies, coin money, and a few other basic activities].

Preach in your church. This is a POLITICAL forum. None of the above "destroy" society. I have more of a personal problem with people such as you who tend to be JUDGMENTAL. Again, Take your message to the churches

I beg to disagree, Gracey. When the moral sense of the country evolve to the point of viewing slavery as immoral, it has become a political issue. Mahatma Ghandi was a moral force and became a politcial headache for the empire. I could give plenty of other examples.

Besides, moved solely by moral considerations, one could advocate forming or supporting a particular politcial party.

Thus, morality belongs to the political arena and not exclusively in the church.

All those who are newbies here are considered disruptors,

Not exactly, and sometimes patience is lacking. Most commonly, it is something that has been hashed and rehashed, or subject to minimal reading and review can be shown to be without basis. New people often have not seen the debates that occur here, and that should be understood...but many disruptors act in ways that are difficult to distinguish between them and the merely uneducated.

and those who hold a more right-winged view than the average libertarian seem to be kicked out.

Clearly racist, vulgar or profane, incitements to murder, or extended personal attacks are generally grounds to be booted: "Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts." Another thing is people who drop posts or replies all over the plave without seeming interested in actual discussion.

Determine your points of argument, make them in a civil manner, and defend them before reposting them, and you will be given a great amount of leeway by Mr. Robinson. ...As well as respect among many here.

Those who can make sane and cogent arguments will build a following rather quickly here.

BTW, Liberal does not equal Libertarian, even if there are branches of each that tend towards Anarchy.

Poke around, and you'll see that even though most here are Conservative, with a heavy smattering of Libertarians, there are a wide variety of views held within those labels.

Things go in cycles here with rises and falls in relative numbers occuring every few weeks. Heck, what you get will even vary depending on what time of day you hit.

One last thing...what's right-wing? Compare it to classical liberalism. Ruminate.

What bothers me is you quote the BIBLE saying that drugs are natural and meant for us to use. If that is not advocacy then I dont know what is.

Holy sanctimonious radicals . . ."

No radical is more sanctimonious than an atheist libertarian radical.

And you are way off base. I seek to convert no one. I declare the bright line and stand firm on the good and traditional side of it. If that enrages the libertarian sewer lovers, so be it.

Get this clear: I'm not responsible for your or anyone else's "conversion." You and they are. Solely.

Personal responsibility: it's a libertarian thing. Libertarians ought to try it sometime.

FF578: There are still some of us who want to take things back the way they should be.

BunnySlippersThe Taliban also advocate living as though it was the 1600's too.

Firstly, "take things back" does not mean to 1600s; 1940s will do. And, secondly, the assumption that newer is better is erroneous. Here, in the States, we hold an exclusive monopoly to stupidity such as "Come on, it's nineties now" (it replaces a previous stupidity that refers to the eighties, and so on) --- as if everything has be started anew every decade, and all changes have to take exactly ten years.

Actually, libertarians are 100% Constitutional.

What's that mean? I can point to some that have argued that several provisions of the Constitution have faults...OTH, they don't believe it's a "living breathing, constantly mutating" document.

Your reply #213:

Thank you. I'm new here. After reading this thread, I was beginning to think FR was something other than I have experienced and that I would not be welcome. Your link to archival material assured me that sometime heated discussion can be expected.

So what if Nugent hates me for pointing out that raving, pushy boors are intrigued and puzzled by his amalgam of illaudable incendiarism and annoying irreligionism -- a tangled web of KKK, Freudian, encounter therapy, populist, Ayn Rand-like, and Marxist notions? Let him hate me. I consider such hatred a mark of honor, a mark of distinction. It should be intuitively obvious even to the most casual observer that he likes to have difficult social issues presented to him in simple, black-and-white terms.

LOL, bump!
