What has happened to Free Republic
Me | Me

Posted on 11/19/2001 2:03:57 PM PST by FF578

Has anyone noticed that the Liberal influence has spread here into Free Republic. I notice that less and less Conservatives seem to post here, and more and more Libertarians seem to be.

I get a letter from someone named NYpeanut who is mad because I posted a discussion based on the Gender Gap in voting.

I didn't make it up, there is really a huge Gender gap with Female Voters tending toward the more liberal candidate. The discussion went well without name calling, but this person seems to have taken issue to the fact that I pointed out women seem to vote more liberally than men.

All those who are newbies here are considered disruptors, and those who hold a more right-winged view than the average libertarian seem to be kicked out.

Why is this? Is this a Libertarian site now?

I have noticed more and more posters standing up for Abortion, Homosexuality, the Porn Industry and Drugs since I first came to this site back before the 2000 Election.

Are Christian Conservatives(Who make up a large part of the Republican core vote) not allowed here anymore?

Just because one holds to a higher power, and wishes to shape society in accordance with the laws of Almighty God, does not make one a Taliban Milita member.

Just out of curiosity: Why is it that when female voters tend to vote Democratic the Republicans have a "gender gap problem," but when male voters tend to vote Republican (overwhelmingly, in the case of white males) nobody seems to think the Democrats have the same problem?

You have embarrassed me. Why? Because I did not think of that myself. Excellent--you should have a column somewhere.

"Private Reply" is considered private, you generally shouldn't talk about the letters people send you in your public posts.

The thing I like most about the Taliban is that they have given everyone on the internet a break from calling each other Nazis.

No kidding! That seems to be the insult of choice nowadays.

While FR does have a vocal libertarian wing, we're also the biggest Bush cheering section around.

I suspect you probably know this.... but FR has always had a strong representation of libertarians, and has always had a strong contingent of republican party faithful... and they've always argued like cats and dogs over many issues.

And sometimes... they even agree about stuff.

That's part of the charm of the place.

In fact that is what your saying and your attempt to cover up your real answer is dishonest.

Unfortunately I've used it about 5 times today so I can't say TOO much about it.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought the thread needed a little levity, things seemed a little intense.

AC does raise a very good point--of course he knows the answer, it's the national news media bias (But why should Republicans take the advice of the news media!!), . I love AC's posts, they're always succint and right on target.

What, the arguing like cats and dogs?..........;)

Personally, I find,

Poster 1: You guys are all correct.

Poster 2: I think you are right, poster 1...

Poster 3: I think you guys are both right

.....a little boring.........

I would hate for Big Brother--or anyone else--to tell me what I can or cannot look at. I intend to look at pornography or read Ulysses or Tropic of Cancer or whatever I jolly well choose. And I have looked at my share of pornography.

However, I also hate it when--as in Amsterdam--pictures of fallatio and sex organs and other pornographic images are publicly displayed so that I can't avoid seeing them. I particularly don't like it when my children are with me.

I can outcuss anybody. But I hate it when obscene words flow over the T.V. and my children hear them.

I don't want Big Brother telling me what to do.

But I do want want the option of avoiding things like this.

I don't know how to implement this. But it's what I want.

Smoking pot is illegal so at best you are a law breaker. But what is worse is the fact that you SUPPORT drug dealers who I am certain DONT VOTE REPUBLICAN primarily, whatever that means, and are probably selling other narcotics or at least engaged in criminal activity that is much more destructive to society. Now, aren't you proud?

Why, yes, I am proud to support my drug dealer. He takes the bigger risks that I can't afford to. In exchange for these risks, he is rewarded with a fat margin. Really. He has gobs of cash. And like most venture capitalists, he votes Republican 9 times out of 10.

:) Capitalism wins, even when it is outlawed.

I don't think that the government is doing a good job of this.

Yes...they were derelict in their #1 priority as a Federal Gov. IMO we taxpayers dish out over $100 BILLION for national security. They failed us, and I blame Clinton administration the most.

To be honest with you, a political forum without significant dissent, is not only boring, but also will not long survive.

That is what draws people.

And that's why (IMHO) FR has been so successful.

Libertarians and Conservatives are the dominant political forces represented here.

They are just close enough in their fundamental philosophical advocacies to coexist without killing one another, and just far enough away in outlook to make for some lively discussion.

There are some who simply can't stand the idea that dissent is tolerated in ANY capacity, and so they bitch about it. But I think your observation is spot-on.

If people came here to say, "me too" all day long, the interest would wane quite quickly.
