What has happened to Free Republic
Me | Me

Posted on 11/19/2001 2:03:57 PM PST by FF578

Has anyone noticed that the Liberal influence has spread here into Free Republic. I notice that less and less Conservatives seem to post here, and more and more Libertarians seem to be.

I get a letter from someone named NYpeanut who is mad because I posted a discussion based on the Gender Gap in voting.

I didn't make it up, there is really a huge Gender gap with Female Voters tending toward the more liberal candidate. The discussion went well without name calling, but this person seems to have taken issue to the fact that I pointed out women seem to vote more liberally than men.

All those who are newbies here are considered disruptors, and those who hold a more right-winged view than the average libertarian seem to be kicked out.

Why is this? Is this a Libertarian site now?

I have noticed more and more posters standing up for Abortion, Homosexuality, the Porn Industry and Drugs since I first came to this site back before the 2000 Election.

Are Christian Conservatives(Who make up a large part of the Republican core vote) not allowed here anymore?

Just because one holds to a higher power, and wishes to shape society in accordance with the laws of Almighty God, does not make one a Taliban Milita member.

Re: #164. You are right on the money there, Bunny. George Sr. lost in 1992 because he did just the opposite at his convention. I half expected them to pass the plate at some point.

..I am against abortion as you are - I guess where we differ is I dont see myself as holier-than-thou enough to be making morality decisions for all of society ....

Not sure about that. Ted Bundy didn't think murder was immoral yet we were holier-than-him enough to impose our morality on him, and the rest of society. There are people who think that selling automobile oil is immoral on Sunday, yet we impose our morality on them by allowing automobile oil sales on Sunday. The Amish did not care for the safety impositions we imposed on them making them put those orange reflector thingies on their buggies. Some Native Americans need Eagle feathers and Peyote for their religion yet we impose our morality on them.

Law is by definition the imposition of SOME morality. The questions are, which one and how much.

. I am against the liberal influence here and am alarmed at the free exchange of ideas going on around here.

Anything but the free exchange of ideas!!!!! *gasp* How dare we allow any other opinions in the mix?

Very sucinct. I like your synopsis. It IS fine however to be able to hold over the libertines heads that 'we' are the husbandmen (and women for the literailly challenged)still plowing the furrow of our fathers and 'they' are the radicals.

I get a letter from someone named NYpeanut who is mad because I posted a discussion based on the Gender Gap in voting.

This is not nice, FF578: you fail to tell us in your post with what specifically NYpeanut disagreed and thereby make it sound as though she attacked you for merely discussing the issue. That is, you want us to join ranks with you merely on the basis of hearsay.

Moreover, if your post is indeed focused on the issue, what good does it do to reveal the name of the person who sent you a private correspondence? None whatsoever. Unless, of course your real reason was for doing so is to "out" him or her, or make us flame that person. Rather indiscrete and unbecoming behavior for someone calling himself a concerned conservative --- or anyone else.

In contrast, NYpeanut's response #24 is very measured and constructive. If this is her usual style of correspondence, your credibility, FF578, is undermined even further: your attack on her is not only unjustified --- it is unprovoked.

FF578, I have no doubt in the purity of your heart and your aspirations in serving G-d and the country. The purity of our motives is not an excuse, however, for the lack of civility in discourse. Not only is this not right --- to use NYpeanut's words ---This is not productive... Let's concentrate on uniting against the dark side."

Well said indeed.

When a poster has to resort to making fun of / pointing out a typo, it means that they have absolutely NOTHING important or rellivant to post. : - )

No, Libertarians post more things than just dope threads. Many post any aritcle that is anti-Bush ( anyone named Bush ! ) , anti-war, or something written by Harry Browne.

Drug Use doesn't destroy society? Your kidding, right?

Does alcohol use destroy society? Did Prohibition work? If we'd end the War on Drugs we'd save a lot of time, money, (not to mention we'd stop violating an individual's right to do with his/her bodies as he pleases). Drug use is not harmful. Drug abuse is. I know plenty of people who smoke weed occasionally and they're better off than my friends who get smashed on alcohol every weekend.

But drug use is against the law! You mean the laws intended to prevent drug use (gasp) aren't working?

Does drug prohibition build or maintain societies? Was America more civilized during the 19 years of alcohol prohibition than we are now? Are Muslim theocracies that are even less tolerant of drugs the we are more enlightened societies?

Drug use does not destroy society. Drug abuse might, but that's another discussion.

No, I'm not kidding. I've used many drugs and still do. I drink alcohol, used to smoke including grass when I was young. So have most of my friends and acquaintances and most of them are VERY productive members of society. Now the ABUSE of drugs, food, automobiles, tempers, etc., can and will destroy society or it's people. Sometimes it kills and destroys families. ALMOST anything in moderation is fine - and should be left to individual choice.

My motto is: GET THE GOVERNMENT OUT of my bedroom and my habits. The main purpose of the Federal Gov is to keep it's citizens safe and secure from Foreign or Domestic intrusion.

When you get a criticism, click on the persons name. If they haven't been here for a couple of years just assume that they are a member of the 'other side' and IGNORE THEM.

Drug use is not against the law,

the use of certain non-prescribed un-approved FDA drugs is against the Law.

Bayer invented Morphine, but you are not allowed to buy it on the street corner, but you can have it if your Doctor prescribes it.

I notice a big shift over the last few months....It seems to me that the female voice is loud and clear on FR...hence the shift from conservative views to liberal...
