What has happened to Free Republic
Me | Me

Posted on 11/19/2001 2:03:57 PM PST by FF578

Has anyone noticed that the Liberal influence has spread here into Free Republic. I notice that less and less Conservatives seem to post here, and more and more Libertarians seem to be.

I get a letter from someone named NYpeanut who is mad because I posted a discussion based on the Gender Gap in voting.

I didn't make it up, there is really a huge Gender gap with Female Voters tending toward the more liberal candidate. The discussion went well without name calling, but this person seems to have taken issue to the fact that I pointed out women seem to vote more liberally than men.

All those who are newbies here are considered disruptors, and those who hold a more right-winged view than the average libertarian seem to be kicked out.

Why is this? Is this a Libertarian site now?

I have noticed more and more posters standing up for Abortion, Homosexuality, the Porn Industry and Drugs since I first came to this site back before the 2000 Election.

Are Christian Conservatives(Who make up a large part of the Republican core vote) not allowed here anymore?

Just because one holds to a higher power, and wishes to shape society in accordance with the laws of Almighty God, does not make one a Taliban Milita member.

Christian conservatives may be the "core" of the Republican party but they are certainly not all of it. George W. Bush made a point of marginalizing the Religious Right during the convention and rightly so I believe ... otherwise he would not have won.

I wish I had a time for everytime I saw authoritarian conservatives call libertarians pot-heads and druggies for their stance on the war on (some) drugs. I am against the war on drugs and I don't use illegal drugs - but many authoritarians call me a druggie anyway. So don't whine so hard about the flames - because both sides spray the flames about.

I've had similar experiences. By far the most rudeness that has been personally directed at me has been from the pro-police state conservatives on this site. They are certainly welcome to their opinions, but resorting to name calling and flaming never struck me as being too persuasive. I ignore most of it as unworthy of reply, and advise others to do the same.

There's some good Libertarians who've been booted too. I'm not really sure what gets someone booted but probably being too rude does, I don't think it's opinions.

Excellent point. In essence, you have stated as many of us feel. I am personally tired of seeing the "Gosh darn it, Libertarians are a bunch of Liberals" vanity posts which do nothing more than demonstrate the overwhelming ignorance of the original poster with respect to the political spectrum, the beliefs of various labels that lie along it, and the problem with trying to compare one label to another with respect to any one individual. Also, I am sick of seeing the ignorant assumptions about all of an individuals personal beliefs based on their identification with a particular political label as well.

I have a strong faith in God and I do not do drugs or believe that homosexual marriage should be recognized by law. However, my distrust of the government causes me to lean towards libertarianism. What the Social Conservatives who bash libertarians don't realize is that many of us simply want to continue to believe and act as they do, without government intrusion. Many of us fear that the Liberals, with all their agendas, have a greater hold on the government, and we appropriately respond by trying limit governmental power. We recognize that we have to allow some things we don't believe in because we want to preserve our ability to engage in and practice those things that we do. I don't want a government trying to create a utopia on the left or right, because the balance of power shifts back and forth. To protect our freedoms, we are better off with a much weaker "power" that does the shifting.

Would you like some cheese with that whine?

By all means, persuade JR to purge libertarians. Until then, remember you are in his house and he sets the rules. Obviously, he has not seen fit to remove non-inflammatory libertarian-leaning posts. If you don't like it, take it up with him. Why post a vanity under a week old account and then claim you're an old member? Are libertairans more destructive to FR than still vanity posts?

Thanks Doc....I'm gonna bail and head home to Mrs. Wardaddy before I'm in trouble.....she's one of those Tennessee snake handlers you know and she can be a might tuff to deal with when I'm late.

Snake handlers....Good Lord!!!!!

Regards....I'm sure the self search will be blasted by tommorow morning. Nothing quite like a Libertarian hornets nest on FR to get the morning off to a good start. I hope I'm not disappointed.

Iv'e been thinking about this and don't really have a answer. I do believe that there is a much wider variety of opinions on FR than I expected to see on a conservative site, but then the membership has grown alot in the last couple of months. I try not to get into shouting matches and only respond that way when shot at first, but I have been getting shot at first alot. I may get shot at again but I do think the libertarians tend to be a little quick with the trigger. They have some very good points to make and discuss.

I don't want to be thought of as a enemy like a treasonous marxist or something. I'm just a middle of the road republican.

No, but the site owner, JimRob, did post a notice that said not to call Libertarians druggies. If you don't like it, or this site, go make your own.

Our founding fathers were slave owners, believed women should be seen and not heard, wouldn't let them vote and most of them smoked hemp.So tell me about our founding fathers and their intent.
