Meeting once again as they have every Saturday afternoon since July 20th, a dedicated group of die-hard FReepers and Patriots gathered on the corner of 16th and J Streets in downtown Modesto, CA this afternoon. A half block away stands the locked office of Congressman Gary Condit (D-CA).
Through the glass front exterior, passers-by can see the American Flag standing in the corner. Within the office are desks for Condit's Stepford Staff, and an area where visiting constituents conduct their business with Condit's staff. Painted on a rear wall is a "Blue Dog" logo referencing Condit's supposed "Blue Dog" political positions when dealing with partisan politics.
For eighteen weekends, the above mentioned patriots have gathered at the same location. For eighteen weeks in a row, Gary Condit (D-CA) is once again a no-show.
Condit's cowardly act of not meeting with his constituents once again, did not deter the patriots. With American Flags held aloft, and signs presenting assorted messages, passing motorists and pedestrians in downtown Modesto were once again reminded that their congressman is not fit to serve.
I was the first to arrive shortly before HIGH NOON. Even before completing my walk across the street with sign in hand, horns began to sound. I began to wonder if I would be a lone FReeper today, but then one of our regulars drove up and parked his pickup on the corner. His first order of business was to raise "Old Glory." With the Flag display properly, he began to attach signs to the light poles. Horns continued to sound from the passing traffic.
All of a sudden came the sound of a continual beeping horn. A friendly wave from the driver, and we knew right away that it must be St. Nick. Oops! St. Nick turned our to be none other than ontherightside. After he parked his car, he crossed the street, peered through the office window, hoping to catch a Condit staffer inside. Finding nobody home, he joined us on the corner. HDRIDER and FXRDeb followed a couple of minutes later.
By 1230 hours, our number had increased to six. FXRDeb happened to look to the east. Walking down the sidewalk toward us with white cane leading his way was Chris. He was greeted by Charles who escorted him to the corner. After he greeted those around him, he took a position near the curb displaying a sign with a message he liked and he once again began to FReep the CREEP from Ceres.
This past week, AP reported that Condit had notified the Speaker of the House that he had been subpoened by the Superior Court of Washington DC Grand Jury. Members of Congress are required by the rules of the House to notify the Speaker if and when that happens.
Perhaps that is the reason why we noticed "enthusiastic horn honking" today. Perhaps, with the subpoena news presented by the Modesto Bee on Thursday, the public was once again reminded that Gary Condit is a Dirt Bag.
These were not just single or double beeps. Today, these were either long sustained beeps or multiple beep, beep beeps. Lots and lots of waves and thumbs up. Today we only noticed 2 Democrat salutes to our efforts. One guy rolled down his window and and hollered that his horn didn't work. I told him to just yell really loud. On two occasions, pedestrians walked by and said, "Beep, Beep." At one point, a metro bus pulled to a stop in front of us. The bus was full of passengers, so as it waited at the bus stop, I passed by the windows with my sign held high so the passengers could read the text: "We Have Not Forgotten - Gary Condit's Rotten." I did manage to go to the open door and with a loud voice proclaim that "Condit's a Dirt Bag."
Some of our regulars were unable to be with us today, and with that, we had no megaphones. With the constant sounds of honking horns, we didn't need to shout any cheers and jeers. The community is behind our efforts. Condit's political career is toast, and when the Washington Post reports it, I guess Condit will be a "Post Toastie."
We would like it a lot better if he would just resign. He still has not made an official announcement if he will seek re-erection. His disfunctional kids are still gathering signatures to get him placed on the March ballot. If he gathers enough signatures, the filing fees are waived. One DemocRAT candidate pulled out of the race this week leaving only Condit and Condit lackey Dennis Cardoza still in the running. Three Republicans and 1 Libertarian candidate have also entered the race.
It was a terrific FReep today. FReeper roll call:

Ontherightside took photos today and likely they will be posted Sunday. Keep those e-mails flying to Washington DC demanding an ethics inquiry as proposed by Rep Bob Barr. To the DC Courts: keep those subpoenas coming and follow up with indictments.
