ROME -- The helmet of Mychal Judge, the 68-year-old chaplain for the New York Fire Department killed while administering last rites to a dying firefighter on September 11 in New York, was presented to Pope John Paul II following Sunday mass at the Vatican.
Judge was a member of Dignity, the organization that represents the interests of lesbian and gay Catholics, though there was no mention made of this during the mass.
"I offer a warm welcome to the delegation from the New York City Fire Department, so many of whose members lost their lives in the terrorist attack of September 11," John Paul II said in English to the New York delegation made up of family members and fire fighters attending the Mass at St Peter's Basilica.
The delegation approached the pope and knelt before him as one of the firefighters gave John Paul the white helmet emblazoned with a gold cross.
Former President Bill Clinton and New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton were among the more than 3,000 mourners who attended the chaplain's funeral on September 15 in New York. The president called Judge's death a special loss and said, "We should live his life as an example of what has to prevail."
He was a close friend of New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
AIDS philanthropist Edward Maloney told the Advocate he once asked Judge how he survived in New York's conservative archdiocese. "He put his fingers to his lips as if to shush the question."
Said Maloney, "Father Judge was neither out nor closeted. He knew how to walk that fine line and work behind the scenes. He brought bravery, dedication, loyalty -- and a touch of sexuality -- to the two institutions he cherished: the church and the fire department."
It mattered as soon as the homosexual militants like Andrew Sullivan starting claiming that Father Judge lived life as a gay man without any proof. The gay crowd are the ones trying to sully the memory of an honorable man. If anything, he was an ex-gay, and that terrifies them to death. It collapses all the arguments the homosexuals use to normalize their lifestyle as a genetic imperative.
Bingo! Everything else you said was just made up to support the false gay martyrdom syndrome. Not a single person has questioned the Father's heroism - just the false claim that he was homosexual to any extent. How would anyone possible know that unless they had sex with him? And up to now, no one has come forward. Your claims that he was a sodomite are what are truly disrespectful.
A priest who is sexually attracted to women, but because he has made a vow of celibacy, does not act on that attraction.
What is a homosexual priest?
A priest who is sexually attracted to men, but because he has made a vow of celibacy, does not act on that attraction.
From all reports, Father Judge fell into the second category.
THAT IS THE POINT! When was the last time you heard someone introduced as "Let me introduce you to Father Joseph, the heterosexual Priest". It is ludicrous. No one talks sexually about Priests like that until you have a tragedy with deaths of thousands of people and all of a sudden the gay militants want to refer to Michael Judge as a 'homosexual priest'. That alone proves it's all part of their sick agenda. When was the last time you referred to a Priest as either heterosexual OR homosexual? Can you please explain why those in the gay crowd are suddenly trying to sexualize Priests?
Nice try. I'm sure you hoped people would just go along with your fantasy. Not a single person has come forward saying anything of the sort. Where in the world did you ever get the idea that Father Mike was "sexually attracted" to men? He may have pointed out a beautiful lady or a handsome man, but if yuo suddenly take that the level of sex, I think you are engaging in a lot of wishful thinking. I don't think homosexuals quite understand this, but a straight man can recognize that another male might be good looking without any kind of sexual impulse. Why don't gays get that? Can't they appreciate a beautiful woman without wanting to have sex with her?
When my time comes, I'll welcome any priest who gives me the last rites, and not wonder about his sexual preference. You should not concern yourself about this; he was assigned to the firehouse as their chaplain, and if it concerned anyone, it should have been the firefighters.
Its the age old distinction between the majority and the repressed minority. Of course it's no big deal to meet a heterosexual priest (or fireman or policeman or whatever), since heterosexuals are in the vast majority. It's understood in many ways - so the issue of the priest's sexuality isn't an issue. But if you are the member of a maligned minority and an example of someone like you does something with honor, dignity and courage publicly - the natural and understandable reaction would be to publicly rally behind that person.
Sorry, have to call you on that. Where did ANYONE speak ill of the dead. It is absolutely predictable how the pro-homosexual contingent just go on and on and on attacking a mythical dragon of their own creation. I challenge you to quote anyone who spoke ill of Father Mike. Please respect both the living and the dead by NOT making up lies such as calling someone 'homosexual' when they clearly are not.
I thought I was simply uttering a simpled-minded truism. I believe the reports I have read that characterize Father Judge as gay. (But as a priest he would have been celibate.) Gay men are sexually attracted to men.
You mean like a pedophile?
Amen!
Fr Mychal's homosexuality was "exposed" in a post just after the WTC tragedy; I hoped, somehow, that would be the end of it. It should have been.
