Conspiracies abound
Self | 11/12/2001 | Lawdude

After reading a few hundred posts on the FR forum today I can only say, FR has turned into a "Conspiracy Theory Haven". People have been posting the most OUTLANDISH comments with absolutely nothing to support them except that a "Government Spokesman" has denied them. I guess that denial is proof in the world of the cynic who is unable to look at information and sift fact from conjecture.

I don't know what caused the crash today. I know for certain I DON'T have enough factual information to even form a reasonable opinion. (Note: the key word is REASONABLE!)

I look at known, objective information which I believe most would accept as factual and add to that pile of info as it becomes available. So far, there is absolutely no, I say again, NO, evidence that the crash was anything but malfunction. Now, a person needs fact to whittle away at that supposition. What FACTS do we have to do so?

Darn little, if any. Let's look-

1) Crashed in Rockaway. Hmmm Normal takeoff route. But one of many.
2) Rockaway is home of Mike Moran. SO?
3) Some witnesses claim to have heard an explosion...Most do not!
4) This type of airplane is crashproof. BS. Not worthy of comment.
Add others and try to RATIONALLY draw conclusions based on FACT. Not some hypothetical desire to be the one that proves it was OBL beyond a reasonable doubt. You ain't gonna be a hero, chum.

Flame away tin hatters, I can take it. But until I see some viable arguments to prove a conspiracy/terrorist influence, I will believe that a mechanical malfunction was the cause for the loss of 255 + innocent lives.

BTW, what ever happened to the Black Boxes from 9-11? Especially flight 93, the Pennsylvania crash?

Because these were terrorist attacks, the data recorders were less important. The voice recorder from flight 93, and I think the Pentagon were recovered. The WTC ones I'm less sure about, since they may have been destroyed by the heat. The flight 93 recorder revealed disruption in the cockpit as the plane went down I think. This is all off the top of my head.

LOL, where is old Michael these days?

Hanging around the newsgroups and probably posting under another name (or two) right here on FR. He can't live without a conspiracy, real or imagined (he's so besotted with imagined, he'd never recognize a real one).

This accident was with American Airlines and NYC, do you see even the remotest connection to Sept. 11 and the reason why speculation abounds?

32 posted on 11/12/01 5:15 PM Pacific by kevin

I certainly can, but what is puzzling to me, why the automatic assumption the "govt will lie to us"? That is the noise I've heard all day, even though no one knows what happened. Remember the boy who cried "wolf"? This is what happens when everything preceding is called a conspiracy. Since Pres Bush is in office, I believe they've been more open than with Clinton. What was hidden in the WTC tragedy, for instance?

I believe that the US government will lie, if they are convienced that it is for the good of America. The airlines are in big trouble now as it is, and the government is having to bail them out as it is, and they do not need any more trouble.

I think that's true, I just saw something on television news that the government is telling people that flying is safe. But why would I feel the least bit better about flying if I believed the terrorists are all gone now but instead the planes are crashing on their own because they are so old, so poorly maintained, and the ground crews checking them are nothing but a bunch of incompetents, so the engines disintegrate within 3 minutes of take-off? Those people killed today aren't any better off if that was the reason.

So what makes the "mechanical" speculation more valid than the "terrorist" speculation?

I think some of these people actually feel like it's safe to fly as long as they believe the plane crashed today because the planes are in very poor shape. To me that's almost more reason not to fly, at least if you could eliminate the terrorists, flying could be safe but not if it's because the planes are all falling apart.

Seems to me YOUR side is jumping to conclusions while our side is merely raising possibilities.

Can't speak for mlo or others, but what bothers me is the comments about the Govt lying to the public. If this is a terrorist deed, I believe Pres Bush will tell us, but only after they *know* what happened. If the enemy is reading FR, why give them the idea they are winning a psychological war against us? My guess is they are reading, and I'll tell them they can kiss my German butt, because our military is going to kick theirs.

Well, in the last 5 years, a lot more planes have crashed due to the former than the latter!

Two Words: Faulty Logic.

I am firmly convinced, and stated so on the night it crashed, that it was caused by either our military or an outside source.

So, let me get this straight.....you are so far advance that you can figure these things out immediately—the very night that they happen, but the rest of us should wait for the FACTs? You don’t have a problem with people speculating, you have a problem with people not agreeing with your conclusions. Unhealthy, man.

Whether we agree or disagree we are a family and family accepts crazy Uncle George, stupid Cousin Nell, condesending Aunt Mary, and pious Grandpa Jones because they are a part of the family.

I'm with you 100% ... brother.

No planes have been shown to have crashed due to suicide terrorists except on 9/11/2001.

Today is not 9/11/2001.

Therefore this is not a suicide terrorist attack.

Invest in a book on Logic. Look up "Fallacies".

If Life on Earth is an accident, why can't this be?

Some people say the fuel tank was half empty. I say it was half full.

"...So what makes the "mechanical" speculation more valid than the "terrorist" speculation? "
===============================================

Very, very True....
...my thinking is that it is a combination of those two theories. That a Terrorist caused the Mechanical break-up.

...but, that's just my opinion....

Rivero was banned because the right people finally figured out that he was using FR to spread anti-American propaganda.

How dare you say that?

I absolutely love the caller on Michael Savage's show today who reminded us of the U-boats in World War I that were sunk by the enemy,

and some in the written press suggested that maybe it was an iceberg or seagulls that downed them.

Michael hollowed loudly, and I almost had to pull over, I was laughing so hard!

I am fed up with this crap today about how this plane crash was an accident!

If you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck...guess what?? It's not a giraffe!!!

You can hear the doubt even in President Bush's voice -- in the Mayor's reassurance.

We will find out very shortly that this was, in fact, part of the war (hello!!!) we are currently engaged in.

We're at war with savage idiots threatening to kill as many Americans as they can who have used multiple planes as

weapons in the last 60 days, and there's even a CHANCE it's an accident???

I'd love to anyone to challenge this, really I would.

Get a grip. Only ostrichs stick their heads in the sand. My 7 year old niece can figure this one out.

Has any terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the crash? Government's dilemma: it finds the crash was due to mechanical failure, and an hour later, a terrorist organization (e.g., Osma on video) claims responsibility for the crash.

I thought of that too. Fedgov better tread very lightly here, and better be rock-solid in their conclusions.

I agree per our military. I don't wanna accuse ANYBODY of lying, but I'm wondering how they have determined this is an accident at this point. I understand they have data I am not privy to, and I hope they will release it soon.
