You don't need a stinger to bring down a jet like that. Put about ten Arabs on a rooftop with 30-06 rifles and they can shoot the engine right off a jet easily. Just one little bullet into those GE turbines, and the blades shatter all over. Then down it all comes. Just like that.

One of the lessons of warfare is that it is infinitely harder to hit an airplane in the air with hand-aimed gunnery(no use of radar, automation) than you think.

Those planes flying over aren't as low as they look. The idea of someone being able to hit a specific part of a flying airliner with a rifle is simply comical.

LOL, I have to agree with you. If a damned pelican or albatross or whatever large bird can be sucked through an engine without damage, I'm pretty damned sure it could survive a .30-06 round. Now some 20mm rounds or .50's maybe not...but then again where the "reported" explosion occurred indicates otherwise.
