How about a bomb on the wing... next to engine ..... or in engine.... with a detonator that is set off by increasing altitude?

Yuo are doing a good thing consolidating threads, thanks. It is impossible to follow more than one thread in a situation like this.

Ok folks. This is why people think right wingers are nuts. This is why people think freepers are nuts. Just like liberals who have knee jerk reactions to issues, people here seem to have knee jerk reactions also. WAIT, get more info, then make an informed decision. Have a knee jerk reaction, and you say things like "a UFO shot a transmorgifier ray at the airplane which caused it to crash. Yasir Arafat was in town, so obviously the aliens were targeting him."

A timed bomb is EXACTLY what this sounds like. The plane was supposed to leave at 8:00 a.m. By 9:15 it would have been over water and no traces of the plane, the recorders, or the passengers would have been found. This is Lockerbie all over again - remember Pan Am 103 was also late and changed course, which was why the bomb exploded with the plane over land instead of water. Stupid terrorists again. They seem to be completely dense about the fact that planes rarely leave on time, especially when they have a full complement of passengers going abroad, as this one did today. The black boxes will be recovered from this plane which will tell us a lot, just as with Pan Am 103, and if there was a bomb, the materials will be found in the wreckage.
Eyewitness on NBA reported seeing something fall off the plane and a small fire, then it went down nose first. Dr. Arnot saying this sounds very similar to the Chicago DC-10 crash.

Does anyone know where Mike Moran lives? Is it between 119th and 129th Rockaway Beach??

Sounds like a bomb to me. I'm taking the train to my in-laws for Christmas for this very reason -- they don't screen all the bags for explosives -- THAT's insane. after the O'Hare incident, my wife and I looked at each other and said, "F--k it, we're taking the train." I'm all for train travel since the railroad is the industry that puts food on our particular table but they don't screen ANY bags on trains so danger could lurk there as well.

Please copy, email, print, send to any American you care to. Never forget.
Does anybody have a link to the article about George "Steffy" Stephanopolous referring to the "BOMBING" of TWA Flight 800? I want to post it again.
Please either post it or freepmail me the link. Thanks!

It would be a big coincidence IF IT WASN'T a terrorist attack. Anybody who pays attention to attacks in Israel knows that Arab terrorists like to attack on anniversaries and they favor Monday mornings. You are correct. There is wisdom in the saying, "perception is everything." For the reasons you state and more, even if no terrorism was involved in this crash, our militant Muslim enemies will read a divine message into it. They will view this as a message of encouragement from Allah to continue the struggle.
Just as we have are on the verge of breaking the spirit and morale of the pro-Taliban forces completely, this happens. It might serve to be short-lived morale boost, but it will result in a morale boost nonetheless.
A terrible and unfortunate incident all the way round.

People are very resistant to this idea because "eyewitness" testimony has been built up to a level of infallibility in our legal system, but every psychologist knows that eyewitness reports are often ridiculously inaccurate, contradictory, and often worthless.
One common experiment is showing a short film with a car accident in a psych class and then quizzing the class afterward about the accident...even the most basic details are routinely botched, things that didn't occur are invented, etc. by completely sane and intelligent people.
The ONLY way eyewitness testimony is useful is through very careful, standardized interviews of a lot of people and then comparing the data.
BTW..as an aside..where the heck are people getting the idea that the Concorde crash is some sort of inexplicable mystery?

"I'm not a tin foil hat type, but considering it's Veteran's Day, that's pretty coincidental evidence that it could be terrorists."I'm not the tinfoil hat type either, but since new procedures and sky marshalls are making it harder for hijackers, what are the odds of sabotage? It is Veteran's day.

Planes were being diverted, and Delta Air Lines spokeswoman Peggy Estes said the airline was working to account for all its planes.
IMHO I don't think this was a midair: 1) The nearest arrival path is where the Maspeth gas tanks used to be (arrival into LGA); 2) No aircraft are allowed within 18 nm of JFK unless they are departing or arriving; no transient ops.
The location of the crash looks to me as though they were running departures off runway 31L (the one closest to the beach). That is their preferred runway.
The departure procedure off that side is called the "BREEZY POINT CLIMB" and it requires an immediate sharp left climbing turn for noise abatement (in the general direction of CARNARSIE if I remember correctly). I have seen many commercial pilots start that climb within 500 ft of the ground. If something went wrong during this procedure, I could easily understand how the crew might lose control of the aircraft.

The chances of it being terrorist driven are slim. You tell everyone to chill out and wait until moe facts are in, and then you make the giant leap to no terroist involvement, with no evidence to support it. Sheesh!

Looks like two separate smoke plumes -- consistent with two sites, as Rudy said. I don't know how much smoke and flame an engine could cause -- could a lone engine cause that much smoke?
