AA Passenger plane has crashed in Queens, live video on Fox News... Developing!
Weight all that against the odds that a random catastorphic failure would occur in this time, in that location, on that kind of plane, and you would bet real money on it having been a bomb.
You are right on about Penn Station. I have felt it was a main target ever since 9/11. I come into Penn every day on NJ Transit trains and they do not check bags at all. This would be a major disruption to New York City's infrastructure. You have Amtrak coming in from all major cities, you have 5 major subway connections, New Jersey transit coming in from all points in NJ and you have the Long Island railroad - not to mention Madison Square Garden in the same building.
I could of used him in the delivery room. LOL. Seriously though, the guy is a rock.
Economic Impact
NEW YORK (CBS.MW) - The U.S. indexes took a drubbing Monday on news that an American Airlines jet headed for the Dominican Republic crashed in the New York borough of Queens.
The plane went down in the Far Rockaway area of Queens, close to JFK airport. All three of New York's airports -- JFK, La Guardia and Newark -- as well as the bridges and tunnels, have been shuttered.
The Dow Industrials opened lower and posted a triple-digit loss soon after. All of its 30-components dripped in red ink. The Nasdaq registered the biggest losses, falling as much as 2.5 percent.
All of the market's sectors declined sharply, with the exception of the defensive gold group. Not surprisingly, the airline sector spearheaded the decline, plunging 8.3 percent. Also losing significant traction were shares of oil service, chip, financial and biotech firms.
Vertical stabilizer in its entirety/ rudder / horizontal stabilizer / elevator / rear of fuselage ???
If the aircraft deprted controlled flight violently, the control surfaces could detach (especially if jarred loose by impact of debris from engine) Until we see the parts, I'll give this report a harrumph.
Bingo. They also said the same thing when Bob Stevens contracted Anthrax (an isolated incident).
I don't know. I imagine their accuracy runs the gamut. Heck, you can purchase a barometric altimeter in any auto supply store for a few bucks. Are they good enough to be used as triggers? I would imagine they are, but who knows?
You would think that the recently increased security would have prevented the planting of a bomb. That would seem to be especially true with respect to bombs in luggage, given the close scrutiny luggage is being subjected to.
But I wonder how tight the security is in the aircraft maintenance areas. Could a terrorist (e.g., perhaps an inside job by a mechanic who sympathizes with the radical-Muslim aims) have secretly affixed a bomb near the engine?
Still, the simplest and most explanation at this stage is garden-variety mechanical failure. We'll see.
Yep. There was a thread here a while back where someone had quotes from one of Bin Laden's Leiutenants laying out the Plan of Attack on the West. Destruction of the banking system/economy and airlines were the top goals.
Retailers make as much as 1/2+ of their gross sales during the holiday shopping season. I think it is prudent to expect attacks aimed at curtailing travel and shopping up through Christmas.
Short runway.
