The only thing that makes me wonder if this isn't a malicious act is the fact that this is VETERANS DAY.

sad, but much changing info still coming out on all media sources, and internet is slow....

You just got me thinking. I am taking a flight to Florida on Christmas and am seriously thinking about driving. I have to take a flight out of JFK too which scares me. Security stinks in NY Airports.

November 12, 1979: US halts Iranian oil imports & freezes Iranian assets Iranian president Hatmani(sp?) is in DC today. I believe he was at a breakfast with Bush(but not certain) when this happened. Could be coincidental symbolism, but file away for later reference.

Last thing we need here are irresponsible posts. MindBender, chill out. I (and others in Cubicleland) appreciate the discussion going on. I haven't seen anything "irresponsible". Speculation is normal. It's no different than what they're doing at CNN, Fox, etc. If you're really bugged by this, the best thing to do is leave the thread.
BTW, hope you're still feeling good (no ill effects of your non-Cipro stance)? ;-)

One thing to think about is that our previous terrorist attack involved several planes. If any other planes come down today, then we know for sure something is going on. There is too much speculation going on now, but I will wait to see if this is terrorist related.

I have no trust in fly-by-wire technology. The advantage of fly-by-wire is that you can fly that thing from the control tower -- theoretically. Nice defense from hijackings.

I am watching, mindbender. Plus I have about eight Freepers in my chat room right now because they can't get FreeRepublic to load.
I know you have the best intentions. However, on the subject of repeat posts, you aren't doing so badly yourself.
Anyway, no hard feelings. I think we all feel the same way about this.

Long-distance is probably just overloaded (easy to figure out why). Local service just fine, or I wouldn't be here.
Well, I just heard a plane in the air on the LaGuardia route. Couldn't get to the window in time to see what kind, but I can't imagine the airports are open again just yet.

It's all so sad. To think that this is one of the hardest hit 9/11 neighborhoods with respect to losses - esp. firefighters. The initial reports say there are 30 kids who lost parents in this neighborhood. Today's losses will undoubtedly create orphans and more widows/widowers....can't cry hard enough....

They are saying that an engine fell off. Fighter jets were only called out after the crash. So I really think it was mechanical and not a bomb or anything related to terroism. But that's just my own speculation. No matter what the cause, it only adds to the publics' current fear of flying.

My wife's family lives in Breezy Pt. She just got a call from them. The plane went down near 129th Street which is quite a way from JFK. Parts of that area have some large apartment buildings but it sounds like it hit near the single family home area. I hope there there aren't many casualties on the ground and hopefully some survivors on the plane. (this is one time to hope for an empty plane).
Just read a report ( ABC News) that the plane was "taking off for Santo Domingo". Full load of fuel. Not good at all.

UN in session today. Topic: terrorism.
Was the UN building the intended target???
Over 200 passengers. Horrible tragedy. Another one. Let's warm up the nukes!

I am taking a flight to Florida on Christmas and am seriously thinking about driving. I have a flight in 4 HOURS (ATL to BWI). Ask me how safe I'm feeling....

Re: Bomb theories. I would think it difficult to plant a timed bomb because with airport delays How about an aneroid bomb? As I understand it, the baggage compartment isn't pressurized...so, if one were to set the thing to go off at a certain altitude, it could have precisely these effects.
I flagged Harp for his insights....

Nice way to "hijack" an airliner from the ground too.
