The RINO's in the VA Senate

That's exactly right. Gilmore's not perfect but he had to deal with abunch of selfish greedy grandstanding RINO Senators who created the much ballyhooed budget crisis. Ken Stolle from Virginia Beach was one of the ringleaders and I hope the Virginia Beach city committee finds a candidate to run against him. He is a disgrace.

No....I wont go as far as to put the blame squarely on G. Dub...

It was his choice not to get invovled...I wish he would've but he wasnt obligated.

Earley just didnt seem to get it.

I was constantly seeing Warner adds....and the ones Earley put out looked labored.

I dont know the machinations that went on within the GOP but I never got the vibe that he was "their man".

??? I would rather blame the GOP of Virginia.

I'm a conservative who voted a straight republican ticket this time. I simply didn't cast a vote for Governor. We got the delegate we wanted here in Amelia county, and the AG caught a landlside. The Lt. Gov may even sqeak through. People here were asking each other in the checkout lines at Food Lion, "did you vote for the carpetbagger or the scalawag?" I heard a lot of people say "neither one", even some of the elderly folks who I know good and well are democrats.

If the VAGOP didn't learn their lesson this time, I don't know what will teach them. What we're talking about around here is getting the state out of the liquor business, getting rid of the tollbooths on Powhite, and dumping sales tax on food, prescriptions and ammunition for starters. Proposals like that could make it so hot for the carpetbagger that he won't make it through his term if the GOP will step up for us. All of those things are popular subjects right now.

Warner wasn't buying the Governorship of Va as much as he was placing a US senate seat on layaway. Current Sen John Warner (R) will be 75 when his term expires in 2002. The boy Warner expects to slide into the senate on surname confusion among the voters.

We all know that Mark Warner wants to be Senator, not Governor, but even he doesn't have the cajones to try to run next year. Even the Virginia RATS and RINOS who voted for him wouldn't stand for that. He's eyeing a run against George Allen in 2006, the year he'll leave the Governor's Mansion (and our fumigation begins).

I wouldnt mind knowing the mental process behind W. not at least doing a thirty second spot for him.

I preface this by saying that Earley lost this himself. He's a very good amn and I thought he'd be a great Governor, but he was a lousy candidate.

As for W's mental process...it's the same process that pitted him against TX Republicans in favor of the Dems in their State House...the same process that had him declare in his campiagn "Congress (read that GOP) shouldn't balance the budget on the backs of the poor", in the middle of their campaigns too, the same process that has him in head to head confabs with his new best friend Tom Daschle while Lott gets his info from the news. The same process that has him entangling us in a coalition with terrorist states and turning our back on Israel. In short, Bush was afraid to appear political because it might damage bipartisianship. Screw the GOP, he figures he can always count on their support...maybe not. Bush has a very unsavory habit of abandoning friends to appease his enemies.

BTW about that new spirit of bi-partisanship...when do you think Daschle will let the Senate vote on drilling for oil in ANWAR, or when will he urge his party to adoupt the President's airline security plan?

Mike, both of them tried to project a new image. Earley tried to pretend he wasn't a gungrabbing member of a communist front organization, but he's from around here and people have long memories. The carpetbagger doesn't have any conservatives fooled. The scalawag just couldn't fool enough of them. It's over. Let's make it too hot for the new gov to handle. That's the best thing to do. Make your delegate and senator propose tax cut after tax cut, and the abolishment of the VAABC store chain. Insist on cutting services to the bone and stopping spending. If we go on the offensive, Warner will flounder around for four years and run home crying when his term is over.

Where are you getting your information that the Republicans scored bigtime in the House of Delegates? I have been unable to find out any information on the delegate races. Please provide me with a link.

Well, while I still disagree with you assessment of Earley, I can agree with you here.

And a good deal of the work is already done. It'll be a little like the budget deal Gerald Baliles left for Doug Wilder in 1985. Gilmore will present a budget that eliminates the car tax, but will only be able to do so by dramatically cutting services and employees. Warner will be faced with going along with the cuts or raising taxes.

And he is such an idiot if he thinks he can "manage" the Virginia General Assembly. I chuckle everytime I think about that.

I sadly believe that the fall of our nation is a foregone conclusion.

I think the US will change its boarders soon (they'll get smaller) and that state govt's will get more important. At least they'll be many political alternatives in that mix. Sorta looking forward to it.

Looks like the stay-at-home-and-pout wing of the GOP may have costed us the Lt. Gov's office, too.

So true. I could never vote for a carpet-bagger dimrat like Warner, but I wont EVER vote for a lawyer, which Earley is. Besides being a lawyer, he got his undergraduate in "religion". A noble vocation, but not for a politician. The VA GOP couldn't have offered a worse candidate than Earley. I'm suprised he got as many votes as he did.

Sorry VA GOP, I wasted my vote on the Libertarians.

costed=cost

Not to be confused with Costco, Cosco, or Bob Costas.

Bingo! For the most part, Democrats do not like governorships unless they come with a lot of patronage like Liberal Sewages a la Massachusetts and Maryland. Governorships in relatively conservative states-- Delaware, Missouri, Virginia, etc. are merely stepping stones to the Senate where the opportunity for nationwide exposure is big and the accountability for performance is little or none.

Well, you're the one who said you "wasted" your vote, not me.

Still, I don't think the Libertarian candidate had much of an impact on the top of the ticket. But, last time I looked, Reams pulled about the amount that Katzen lost by. At the same time, I can't imagine the Reams voters pulling the lever for Katzen anyway...

Uh, ok, I should have said "wasted" with "/sarcasm". (I thought it was obvious...)

Oh come on. He had time to throw out the first pitch at Game 3, didn't he? That didn't "put his life in danger?" Get with reality--Bush left Earley and Schundler twisting in the wind.
