An actor Jerry Doyle, recently a castmember on Babylon 5, ran as a Republican for the 24th U. S. House District (which has parts of LA and Ventura counties) against Brad Sherman (ACU=7 lifetime), but Doyle only got 30% of the vote.
Melissa and her husband Bruce both endorsed him-- a courageous stand in the middle of LA-LA land.
Doyle's views:
- Gun owners must be allowed to keep their guns. This is a promise we made at the founding of our country that we cannot break. This does not mean people need weapons that spit out hundreds of rounds a minute, but it does mean they should be allowed to keep their hunting rifles and prize collectibles that millions of Americans have. When some politicians point to terrible crimes made with guns, we must remember those people were irresponsible gun owners. We need to focus on the individual, not the gun when dealing with such problems.
- It is simply unjust that the average family today gives nearly half of what it earns to the government. I will push legislation for responsibly lowering taxes across the board, allowing you the economic freedom to keep and invest more of what you earn. Brad Sherman likes taxes so much, he once wanted to impose a special tax on cartoonists.
Our economy has gone through a tremendous boom, prompting one to wonder how much stronger and lasting it would have been if our taxes were lower. While continuing to pay down the national debt, I will make sure surplus money is returned to the tax-payers.
- I believe in government closer to the people. As your Congressman, I will continue to fight to break the LAUSD into smaller units, thereby creating more administrative accountability and parental choice. While Brad Sherman has voted to create more federal dictates, I will bring decision making back to the communities, allowing for more local flexibility with federal funds, such as vouchers, and fewer federal mandates. I will also demand that the best teachers receive the best pay.
Additionally, I will help working families by making income set aside for education tax-free. This frightens Brad Sherman, for it takes away his control of your money.

What acting have you done? If you don't want to blow your cover here, that's cool.

She supported a GOP candidate against a major liberal in the 24th U. S. House district. She's not that loyal of a Democrat.
Two words:

I believe it was Napoleon who said that history repeats, the first time as tragedy, the second as farce.

Valerer Harpie.........er.........Valerie Harper is a washed-up has-been. She just needs a hobbie, that's all.

"Politics?....Democrat - I knew it. Gilbert is more the 'hereditary' Democrat - and party affiliate through job association - than a political active ideological adherent. I'd rate her quite conservative by Hollywood standards. The big question now is - what direction will she take the Guild in? Or, maybe it is - how many recounts will the liberals demand before they give up?

No, J, I can deal with an article by a self-professed Libertarian that wants to change the party-- by ignoring them (just like Conservatives do to Usama mic Lame).
But Deb, sweet wonderful Deb, she calls all Libertarians kiddie porn and drug addicts, which is just about as stupid as it gets. And she either knows that, or she is even more of a mental midget than I already think she is.
So I think that when the kind, gentle Deb complains about Valerie Harper using lies and smear tactics to go after Gilbert on "this" thread, this is just a tad bit HYPOCRITICAL when compared with her comments on the "other" thread. Get it?

"Harper is a washed-up has-been" You got THAT oh-so right! LOL

This is good news. I was rooting for Gilbert.
Her hubby is a pro-gun Conservative, Bruce Boxleitner. I have seen him at some Conservative events in LA.

Hey dude - lay of your intra-thread diatribe against deb, head on back to where it began. I don't want to see this thread become another libertarian-induced crying-jag - whether you begin it or someone else does.

Your post #42....Wow, and Doyl wasn't elected??? If I were a CA voter, I would have voted for him. Just goes to show that the entire state of CA has finally broken free ot the mainland and slipped into...
The Twilight Zone.
I hope he runs for something again.

Mike Farrell, formerly of M*A*S*H, is her VP preference. I remember him being EXTREMELY active in fringe left-wing causes, especially in the 80's. I recall he was a big Sandanista and El Salvadoran guerrila supporter. I believe him to be anti-gun.
I don't follow the industry that closely, but I would not get all enthusiastic about a conservative rebirth just yet.

Cool! Thanks! I'm liking this more and more!
I hope Kosh reminds her not to go to Berkeley.......................oops!, I meant Z'ha Hadum.
