Good morning!! Rainy here today.

I have decided the press need to be mocked and put in their place. Therefore, I am instituting a daily feature on this thread. Those of you who care to may contribute. The name of the feature is:

STUPID PRESS QUESTION OF THE DAY

Please submit your nominations from the press briefings of the prior day, and when possible, name the reporter. Today I am pleased to announce the winner for yesterday, MAJOR GARRETT of CNN who asked the following question of Dr. Condoleeza Rice, National Security Advisor:

Q Dr. Rice, the administration has said the military campaign on Afghanistan is going according to plan; yet some in Afghanistan, some in Pakistan, some even in Europe are confused as to what the plan is; why hasn't more been achieved through the air campaign, when is the ground campaign going to begin in earnest? And there is some concern that this isn't going as well as the administration had originally advertised, or led the American people to believe. It's even caused anxiety in the stock market, causing, in some cases, share prices to go down. What can you tell the American people about the plan, why it's going so well, and deal with those skeptical voices, not only in the region, but among some of our European allies?

Major Garrrett is awarded the Golden Buffoon for his speech-making, his blaming the economy on President Bush, but most importantly, for actually asking when the ground war will start, resurrecting that golden oldie from the Gulf War.

I am sure that many of you will want to follow Mr. Garrett's career as he asks other probing questions. Perhaps you would like to drop him a note congratulating him on this award.

I encourage all to participate. Secretary Rumsfeld's press briefings yield lots of material, and of course Ari Fleischer is out there fielding the questions of the intellectual giants of the White House press pool every day. Keep an eye out!! You may submit the winning entry!!

Jane, when William was home a couple of weekends ago, I discovered he was a huge Rumsfield fan, too.

After church that Sunday, he looked around and said,

"You know, Mom, Rumsfield is just like one of these older guys here: solid, pulling no punches, down-to-earth, and just plain EXCELLENT!"

I do think myself especially fondly of the cold day last January when I shook his hand, and looking into his eyes, and saw such strength.

Well, in addition to everything else on the schedule today, I agreed last night to stop by the church and help the organ tuner with the organ...

It takes a long while, and people are needed to press the various keys..

Condi Rice is too nice sometimes. She should employ the phrase I've heard the President, Ari, and Sec. Rumsfeld use: "Is this a question or a speech? Get to the question." or something of that nature.

My favorite ultimate most stupid reporter question of all time was when that idiot reporter asked Rumsfeld recently why a reporter couldn't parachute in with the Special Ops forces. Unreal. Rumsfeld should have said, "Okay. But I don't know how you're going to work your weapon and microphone at the same time." What is this, anyway, a video game?! Sheesh.

STUPID PRESS QUESTION OF THE DAY

Great idea, MM. Ha! I will now visualize each winner wearing a hat with the saying, "I asked a stupid press question" on it. :-) Of course, this hat will be shaped like a very tall triangle.

What a great idea! I have my question from Donald Rumsfield's briefing yesterday. I'm off to find your thread.
