Feds -CA. Bridge Threat Credibility 'Cannot Be Determined'
MSNBC ^ | November 1, 2001 | Pete Williams

Posted on 11/01/2001 4:42:32 PM PST by umbra

An FBI official told NBC the warning Davis announced was based on an FBI bulletin sent out only to law enforcement officals and not intended for the public.

The FBI did not know Davis was going to release the information, NBC's Pete Williams reported.

Shortly after the governor's warning, the Justice Department released a copy of the warning, which said the FBI had "uncorroborated information" that the terrorists were planning the attacks.

This would be Ashcroft's call. He needs to say something. Political embarrassment is equivalent to death anyway for most politicians.

Governor Davis needs to be humiliated. This is not the way we run this country or this war.

They aren't going to catch no terrorists now, thanks to A-hole Gray Dufus.

Once again Davis proves that it's all about him and his 15 minutes of fame. What a maroon. Every governor in the country probably got notified at some time in the past two months of potential targets. Most would quietly put the extra security in place and try to catch the bad guys. Not this jerk. It's about time Ashcroft makes an example out of somebody. This looks like as good a place to start as any.

The Republicans can win the governorship back here in CA if they can field a candidate who can fog a mirror. It wouldn't take much to defeat Davis, but the Republican party has a long history of fielding unelectable candidates here.

Yeah Joe, it's because the Republican party in Calif has gone completley liberal.

Fox news said on one of their hourly updates tonight that the powers that be in the government didn't feel that the threat was as legitimate as Dimbulb Davis was making it out to be.

I think he feels left out, all the action has been on the east coast and he wants in on it.

Yeah Joe, it's because the Republican party in Calif has gone completley liberal.

Well what do you expect when the GOP in general won't take Clinton and the DNC to task for the crimes they committed. James Riady stated in a California courtroom (under conditions that if he lied his plea bargain could end up in the trash) that the DNC and Clinton campaign organizations were guilty of NOT returning the MILLIONS of dollars that they ILLEGALLY got from him (China, really), even though they told the public that they DID return those funds. Here they were caught, red-handed, with no plausible deniability (they could no longer claim they didn't know the funds were illegal) AND THE REPUBLICANS DO NOTHING. THAT'S the real crime ... GUTLESS and SPINELESS behavior by the GOP at large.

The same thing goes for the Ron Brown death. All they have to do to prove Clinton and DNC involvement in a coverup involving a MASS MURDER and treason is exhume and autopsy a body. But they won't ... either because they are gutless or because they are dirty themselves. Take your pick.

Careful, all, the FBI didn't say the threat WASN'T credible, they simply said it was LESS credible than the threat that prompted Monday's announcement.

Davis has nothing to lose in a liberal state by fomenting anarchy by scaring people about a perceived threat. And EVERYTHING to gain if the threat now becomes reality.

ATTENTION CHP: Keep an eye on Gov. Davis and Chris Lehane over the next few days and keep them off major bridges.

Add another charge of necrophilia for playing with his dead corpse of a political career.

Ahh.. you've struck gold my friend, Davis is Grandstanding BIG TIME.. a total ass trying to score .."look I'm tough and just as savy as mayor what's his name". This situation was being handled prior to his yapping! Hewitt, called this tonight on his radio program. I almost called his show but thought the wiser.

Maybe Davis got a "hot intelligence tip" from Gary Condit and clan--they have motive.

A suitcase nuke detonated atop the Coronado bridge might take out 3 targets: the bridge; the largest U.S. Navy base in the world, and the city of San Diego. I hope I'm wrong, because I'm at "ground zero."

SAN DIEGO-CORONADO BRIDGE

This award-winning toll bridge quickly became an area landmark after its opening on August 3, 1969. The distinctive curve and soaring sweep of the San Diego-Coronado Bridge was the first structural conquest of San Diego Bay, joining the Island of Coronado and City of San Diego.

The 2.12-mile (11,179-foot) long bridge interchanges with Interstate 5 in San Diego and becomes Route 75 in Coronado. With a vertical clearance of approximately 200 feet, the tallest ships can pass beneath it.

Construction of the $50 million bridge began in February 1967. Its distinctive towers and graceful curve brought it the "Most Beautiful Bridge" Award of Merit from the American Institute of Steel Construction in 1970.

Beginning at the specially designed toll plaza in Coronado, the traffic ascends at a 4.67 percent grade, curving 80 degrees toward San Diego. Clusters of submerged piles support the 30 mission-arch shaped curving 90 degrees toward San Diego. Clusters of submerged piles support the 30 mission-arch shaped concrete piers. The 54-inch diameter piles were driven and jetted to depths of 100 feet in the Bay's bottom.

All of the braces and stiffeners for the bridge are inside the box girder, providing the slender super-structure with a smooth exterior. The 34-inch high barrier railing is safety designed to redirect vehicles back onto the roadway with little or no damage, and low enough to permit an unobstructed view while crossing the bridge.

The center lane of the five-lane roadway is reserved as a safety median and a reversible lane to provide three lanes of peak-hour traffic.

No kidding. I'll go further and say I suspect the PRC would be delighted if the fleet headquarters in San Diego were to disappear. If Davis just saved this, the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, good for him.

bin Laden's handbook talks about the "enemy bridges." The Left Coast has a bunch of targets and terror cells--one of the largest may be in San Diego and the intelligence says something may be coming over the border. You figure it out.
