If the MURDERERS are supposed to KILL AMERICANS, why would they bomb bridges?

The last I heard the terrorists were instructed to kill all of us Americans, how does a bridge fulfill that order from Binnie the thug?

SERIOUSLY, We've heard dirty nukes, bridges, poison malls, and all manner of warning. At this point, we have to consider the possibility that al-Queda is sending misinformation into the various pipelines.

"Fox checked with the FBI and reported that the FBI does not deem the threats to be as credible as Davis is claiming."

Gov. Davis may have really put the FBI on the spot, and given them no choice. In the intel/ counter-intel world, revealing what is known about an enemy organization, it's activities and plans, is the best way to compromise you own source of information. I would hate to think that our one single cultivated source of intelligence amongst the ranks of sleepers within our gates was sacrificed today by Gray Davis, and his need for face time.

believe they could have brought America to her knees economically and mentally.

What would actually happen would be America annoyed like a mother bear with cubs and mobilized for all out war right now. Not shocked and saddened, a warrior nation rising to do battle.

Watchout for cement trucks on Bridges

The "barrel" on a cement truck would do a pretty good job containing a sizeable portion of any blast within it. After all, it holds tons of concrete in

A concrete truck on a long bridge during rush hour would be seriously out of place. Too much change it could get caught up in traffic and have the load set up in the truck, so they wouldn't have sent it in the first place. I don't know if they would be able to stop it, but I think someone would realize that it wasn't supposed to be there.

Davis made this crap up, so he could get in on some facetime and put his sagging poll numbers up.

If this is true, hasn't Gray Davis just committed a felony? The effect of this is far worse than one anthrax hoax.

I agree Davis is either trying to pull his poll numbers up by trying to get on the bandwagon, or jockeying to get Federal money, especially after California voted for Gore. He's desperate, and just like the rest of his liberal ilk, don't care if he upsets the average person for his own personal gain. Tries to trump up a crisis beyond the facts, in order to get face time. Bleccch!

They shut down air travel, if they pull this off, they'll shut down bridge travel. They're shutting down our mail system--they're attacking our infrastructure. If they manage to get our oil shut off, that would be the ultimate strike.

"If, for example, the Golden Gate became impassable, how would people get across the bay?"

They wouldn't, they would be...
"Sitting on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
I'm just sitting on the dock of the bay
Wasting time"

Ummm, maybe because they use the bridges to supply the troops fighting the Northern Alliance, the US and her allies?

I just saw a former FBI guy on Hardball say that Davis was out of line in making the warning, that all such warnings should come through Ridge. Davis is just playing politics.

Given the way he has "governed" the state, I am deeply concerned that he will somehow screw up effective federal efforts at preventing such a catastrophe. Really, everything the man touches turns to S#$**!!

Bridges, smidges. You'd need a very large explosive, placed in just the right areas to take down the Golden Gate. A truck bomb ain't going to do it.

Placement is clearly key, but I don't think the explosive would have to be terribly big. I'm not familiar with the Golden Gate bridge in particular, but it's no secret that most suspension bridges will not survive the loss of even one of the major side cables; I would hope that someone is watching the ends of those cables (where they're fastened to their foundations), since a small cutter charge (or even someone with the right kind of saw and some time undisturbed) could drop the entire bridge.

Maybe, but why bomb a broken bridge?
