The media has seemed to suppress this (how many poor souls that felt compelled to jump from the burning towers) for whatever reason.
I, for one, would like to be armed with some sort of number who leaped to their certain deaths. I have a feeling, due to the "Vietnamization" taking place now, that this tidbit of data might come in handy.......right about the time some clown gets my '5 across the lips'.
Anybody have an idea as to the numbers involved here? Thanks in advance.
I’ve wondered if a helicopter could have gotten up to the roof with all of the fire below. Would that mess with air currents over the building? There must be some reason. Otherwise, you would think landing a helicopter on the roof would be the first thing they would try.
Just because you haven't read it doesn't mean it hasn't been written.
Its an atrocity that 20 lives, 5 lives or even 1 live couldnt be saved from a helicopter going to the North Tower. The South Tower may not have been accessible but there was a corner of the North Tower that was.
Hot air rises. A lot of really, really hot air creates what are called convection currents. a rescue from a target that small at that altitude would be extremely difficult on a perfect day -- throw in convection, and it's nearly impossible.
Before or after the last stock market crash??
This figure sounds closer to me than a dozen. I remember seeing a documentary that was filmed by two brothers,Jules and Gedeon Naudet. They had just happened to be filming at one of the firestations close to the WTC and they were taken to the WTC by the firestation crew. They filmed a lot of what was going on that day.
In one scene they were diverting the evacuees from going out one exit because it was too dangerous because of the falling bodies. You could hear all sorts of popping sounds in the background and the fireman told the cameraman that each one of those pops was a body hitting the ground. I think I heard well over a dozen pops just during that scene. It was horrendous to know that you were hearing lives ending while you were watching that film.
I think the documentary was just called "9/11" If you ever have a chance to watch it, take the time because it is an eyewitness view with actual footage from that day and it is a very powerful tribute to the work and sacrifice that was made that day by the firemen.
A today FReep registrant has dug up a six year old thread and posted some reply to it. Weird, indeed.

deja vu?
Weird....I’m maybe guessing that people are maybe Googleizing something and come across an FR archive, then sign up to post to it.
More than a dozen. When you listen to the tapes of the Firemen in the command post in the WTC, you can hear a body hitting the covered driveway about every 10-20 seconds. It was sickening.
Maybe our new FRiend can enlighten us.
I saw an article once stating that jumpers were about 10% of the total fatalities.
Yes, The Fire Chaplin was killed by a jumper as he was blessing the dead. A true hero.
FR Post: The 9/11 victims America wants to forget: The 200 jumpers who flung themselves from the Twin Towers who have been 'airbrushed from history' (DailyMail.co.uk, by Tom Leonard)
And never forgive.
