Human Rights Campaign Foundation invades saturday morning cartoons (My title)
Me

Posted on 10/27/2001 6:22:09 AM PDT by Green Knight

Earlier today, I was watching saturday morning cartoons. Specifically "Transformers: Robots In Disguise" on FOX Kids. (What can I say? I've been a Transformers fan since 1984, since I was 6.) During the second commercial break, a commercial aired which began with Ellen Degeneres' mother onscreen. In it, her and several actors talked about parents accepting and understanding their children, whether they're gay or straight. The ad ended with the phrase Choose to understand and the name of the organization that funded the ad, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, as well as a link to their website.

Now, am I wrong to be shocked by this? Here's why I'm shocked by it, at any rate.

These are saturday morning cartoons, watched mainly by 7 year olds, who have NO CONCEPT AT ALL of sexuality, much less homosexuality. And as a parent, you feel it's alright for your children to watch saturday morning cartoons, as their can't possibly be any bad messages for them to watch. Little would you know, though, that the Human Rights Campaign Foundation would use it to ram their beliefs down your childs throat while you're unaware. To bring sexuality into their innocent world.

Picture this: You're sleeping soundly, as you believe that you're 7 year old child will be doing nothing more than watching saturday morning cartoons. No harm, right? Well, imagine if that child wakes you up and asks you "What does 'straight' and 'gay' mean?" So now you're left with 2 choices: A) Explain these concepts to your child at a time when they're incapable of understanding them. Or B) Not explain them, making your child feel as if you're not being honest with them and holding back the truth. And possibly leading them to inquire elsewhere and find out from people who don't care as much about your childs well-being as you do. (Hey, there's always the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, who were kind enough to put their URL in the add. www.HRC.org.)

In other words, these people are willing to sacrifice a small childs innocence in order to advance their own political agenda. Am I wrong in being angry about this? Because right now I am SEETHING!

That was an e-mail I shot off to Rush as I thought he might be interested in it. And now I'm posting it here as a warning. If you're not keeping your eyes on what your kids are watching on saturday morning cartoons then you should be. While generally speaking you don't have to worry about the cartoons, which are for the most part nothing more than 30 minute ads for the products they're selling (With the exception of shows like "Captain Planet"), you DO have to worry about groups like the Human Rights Campaign ramming their beliefs down your childs throat. Without a thought given to how their message will affect your child. What's next? Safe sex messages? Understanding a womans' right to choose? That sounds extreme, but let's not forget that the Human Rights Campaign Foundation is pushing tolerance of homosexuality to 7 year olds, who're to young to understand what homosexuality is.

I don't know. Maybe I'm grossly over-reacting. I'm still angry, though.

Hahahaha! TV as babysitter!
Whatever happened to parents' taking responsibility for the influences on their children?

Let's blame Ellen for the fact that we're too lazy to pay attention to information sources which mold our children's minds from early youth! It's all big, bad, lesbian Ellen's fault!

You should be. The gay lobby wants nothing mare than to circumvent parental instruction and propogandize children into believeing their bizarre lifestyle is wholesome and decent. What better way than to run ads during Saturday morning cartoons? They will stop at nothing.

Which network took money to run that ad?

Enquiring minds want to know...

Was this a national or "local" commericial. Seeing that this commercial was aired to reach South Florida(home of the Boy Scout hating Broward County county board, home of the "swinging chad" voters etc.) I am surmising that this is a "local" buy to make Broward and Palm Beach voters feel good after the defeat of Broward County board.

I agree with you wholeheartedly that this "commericial" has no place on children's programming and it is disgusting how the gay lobby is trying to push this on kids.

I would also write an e-mail or call the local tv station that aired the commercial and say that you will boycott other sponsors that advertise on that station if the airing of the commercials by the HRC continue.

Be careful with cartoon network. My little one and my husband love to watch Tom and Jerry every night. Sometimes they put really gruesome commercial advertising some movie on one of the cable channels, even though we don't have the movie channels, like Nightmare on Elm Street type commercials. From now on, we don't even go to the bathroom and leave him in the room alone with Tom and Jerry, that's how bad tv has gotten.

There is one, and only one reason why the New Butt Order® (NBO) is advertising on saturday morning cartoons:

Homosexuals cannot reproduce, therefore they recruit!

Give me a break. I am 43, and I watched TV cartoons every Saturday morning when I was a kid. My parents did not have to worry about us seeing anything other than cereal ads. Saturday morning was the one time my hard working parents could catch a break from five crazy kids running them ragged. It's no different now, except that now we have to worry about crap like this being fed to our kids during cartoon shows!

My 8 year old watches Fox Kids most Saturdays. Do you get up at 6 am to take your kids to the library? That's when my kids get up, and I am not going to be ashamed that they turn on the TV instead of waking me up at the crack of dawn. I guess I am doomed to watching them grow up to be axe murderers. /sarcasm/

You need the thread posted by Sabertooth about the old cartoons. I can't remember the name though and anyway the archives aren't working.

Must...resist...urge...to...make...sarcastic...remarks...like "that might explain your current condition"

Whew. Glad I resisted the urge. :-)

Sat morning cartoon shows have been filled with crap for decades now. The half-hour toy commercials which pretend to be entertainment shows are a vicious influence on kids, in IMHO. An ad (directed at parents, not kids) which offends your political sensibilities is far less dangerous.

What do you have against guns? :-)
