Sen. Biden Questions Airstikes' Time Frame; US Risks Looking Like 'High Tech Bully'
Wed Oct 24 2001 10:22:37 ET

The top Democratic lawmaker on foreign policy said Monday that unless the bombing of Afghanistan ends "sooner rather than later," America risks looking like a "high-tech bully," the Wilmington News Journal reports.

"Every moment it goes on, it makes the aftermath problems more severe," said Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee.

Speaking to the Council on Foreign Relations, a nonpartisan group of foreign policy experts, Biden said he understands the bombing is required to help safeguard U.S. special forces operations, and that requirement creates a difficult balance.

Biden stressed that, like most Democrats, he has supported President Bush - but the "honeymoon' might get rockier soon."

"The longer the bombing goes on, the more susceptible we are to criticism, justified and unjustified, in the Islamic world," he said.

"With every hour that passes, the United States pays an escalating price in the Arab world, and faces complaints that it is a high-tech bully that only attacks from the air."

In his statement, Senator bin Iden (Biden) skirts perilously close to 'giving aid and comfort to the enemy'.

It would appear his next public appearance will be when he defecates on the remains at 'Ground Zero'.

DemocRAT partisan gloves all the way off - what with Daschle denying judgeships, Clintonista leftovers blaming "class warfare" for folks being treated for Anthrax before postal workers, and now this. They'd said they fixed Biden's head but, still, year after year, he continues to show tremendous signs of brain damage.

I dunno, I think with every passing day our chances of capturing bin Laden get smaller. I also think every additional day there spent bombing what little infrastructure is left in that country will not only increase our financial commitment to rebuild what we helped destroy, but will spawn additional bin Laden copycats inspired by his ability to elude us. If we do manage to capture bin Laden, will it have been worth inspiring 10,000 others to take his place?

They may not have the capability today, but I assure you that at some point in the future terrorists from this region of the world are going to have access to nuclear weapons and biological weapons that make Anthrax look a weak strain of the flu. Do we really want to anger an entire region of the world so much that they go on hating us for hundreds of years to come?

The title of your thread made me think of a weird coincidence. The morning of September 11, just before I woke up (and before the towers were struck) I had a dream, remarkable enough for me to mention to my husband before we got out of bed.

I was startled awake when I dreamed Gary COndit was shot by a terrorist named "Tomma lefty Joe Biden."

Crazy but true.

For all we know, he's already dead.

Actually, good point geaux. What if bin Laden is already dead? Would the Taliban or the bin Laden supporters tell anyone?

I loathe Biden. What a mouth. It never shuts up. I'm sure he'll try to find Hanoi Jane so the two can walk ground zero together and blame the USA. My husband was in country when Jane made her pitch. The creeps.

I don't know; the Northern Alliance may say something, if their intelligence learns his whereabouts.
