9/11 and the Tin-Foil Hat Crowd
vanity | 10/24/01 | me

Posted on 10/24/2001 9:44:01 AM PDT by bassmaner

After the horrifying sneak attack of 9/11 and the continuing anthrax scares, I am certain that our government is doing the right thing in going after OBL and his Taliban henchmen. Their words and their deeds are just crying for us to wipe them off the face of the earth, consign them to history's dustbin, or whatever similar fate we can conjure up. I am 99.9999% certain that GWB is handling the job well and doing the right thing for our nation. I hope he continues and carries the message to all the state sponsors of terrorism as well. But there are some things that are troubling me.

Before anyone starts flaming, this is not going to be a "blame America" screed. Au contraire. Through our tradition of liberty, we've always helped raise the level of civilization in places where we've injected our influence. The doubts that I have about the current war policy stem from this question: Considering the abuses and the lies heaped on American citizens in recent years by their federal government (IRS abuses, Waco, etc.), and the federal power grabs that were attempted long before 9/11 (Know Your Customer, Carnivore, and others), can we really, truly believe BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT that the tin-foil hat crowd is totally off base with their wacko conspiracy theories?

I've heard such types talk about the "Masonic brotherhood" which seeks to gain world domination by imposing the "new world order". I've read theories about how the CFR, Trilateral Commission, and the Bilderbergers are behind a vast scheme to impose the one-world socialist vision of the Illuminati at the expense of traditional American freedoms (What better way to eliminate liberty than to use the exigency of war?). In the past I've always taken such nonsense with a grain of salt. And my current reaction is "Why would any such conspiracy risk killing thousands of innocent people just to advance its agenda? Couldn't it be done in a more subtle way?"

But still, I'm troubled. How, for instance, were we able to pin the 9/11 attacks on bin Laden so quickly while claiming that his al-Qaeda organization is based on compartmentalized "cells" without a direct chain-of-command? Why is the evidence we have on him and al-Qaeda under seal? Why does the title of the new cabinet level organization (Office of Homeland Security) seem troubling? Am I wrong to be asking these questions? Could the tin-foil hat wackos be on to something? Is everything we're hearing from the media and the government true? Don't get me wrong: I support the government's actions in its fullfillment of its Constitutional duty to "provide for the common defense". I just hope I'm not being lied to - I don't want this to be a country that's has given up its birthright of liberty to advance some evil, conspiratorial agenda. That's not the America I want to live in.

All of your questions are legitimate. I've been thinking the same things. It's all too neat.

You make some very good points.

Not to worry. If indeed, things get that bad, we can start a mass citizenship renunciation movement.

That rating was a media fix.

Stats, especially polling, can be easly manipulated. That's why the media uses it to control the American citizen.

Where's Carvelle? Bonior? and the score of others? Their voices have been squashed.

Trust me, Bonior's alive and well in my district. Their voices haven't been squashed, there's no need for them to be talking because the foolish masses are buying into the socialist agenda that never would have been tolerated a few months ago. As long as everybody gets to wave a flag and sing "God Bless America" while the Constitution is making its way through the shredder - everything is fine, move along.

The socialists' agenda isn't gone, it's been propelled forward at light speed. Who cares if the stupid sheeple want to keep their symbols of liberty? Let 'em have the symbols, the real rights and liberty they once represented are gone.

I doubt you can afford to live next door to me.

Yeh, I noticed your brothel does quite a little business. Say "bite me" to Bubba Clinton the next time he stops by for a little afternoon delight!

I'm happy you're doing so well. Really.

I was responding to those who say the Power-Elite and/or the United States government is behind the 9-11 attacks and that there was something to be gained from terrorizing the country. My point was that 9-11 was NOT the actions of anyone except the "evil-doers" whose goal is to establish a fundamentalist Muslim world order. I was responding to those who hold what could be valid complaints against the power structure in this country, but who have taken it too far, in my opinion, by not acknowledging that some things are not planned.

But point of reference, three-month-old babies are now routinely vaccinated against Hepatitis B, a disease which is transmitted only through blood products and sexual activity.

And either your kids are out of school, never went to public school, are too young for school, you haven't any kids, or you're a teacher. If the latter is true, good luck.

Thank you for your enlightenment; nothing gets by you, does it?

Matter of fact, I *am* old, and was overseas for a total of 7 yrs, working for DoD, and 5 of it was during a war.

***The mainstream WHAT!***

Media and poulace. The media guides the populace to perceive what the accepted "mainstream" is.

If you have a problem with DU(obssession?), go to their site and tell them 'til you get banned. Don't try to put them in mainstream thought. Enough of their pc stuff is already there.

It wasn't an attempt at humor, rather letting you know I'm aware of troops being overseas, and that I expected you to know what I meant--that is, we have troops at war, at least in danger.

George W. Bush has no interest in the Carlisle Group, Richard Cheney is not a stockholder of Halliburton, he sold all interest in Halliburton before taking office.

My comments were specifically directed towards the Bush and Cheny families....

I Speculate that a majority stockholder of a very profitable corporation would naturally "sell" or place into a trust a large number of shares for his family members....

As to the Bush family, GHW Bush does in fact enjoy a major stake in the Carlyle group, so my comments are accurate.
