I first found Free Republic through Drudge Report. I found Drudge by listening to the White House briefing sessions who constantly told everyone how radical he was. (I knew he was my kind of people.)
To get to my point, or to make a short story long, Does anyone else remember freepin back then?
There were days you couldn't get on. When you did get on, it took forever to load the posts. There were three options. Next 10 - 50 -100 and a simple search engine. Remember the posts that said "Please don't post graphics, I can't read the posts if you do."?
Don't get me wrong, many of the improvements that have been made, are because the technology has changed. I also got a faster modem and new computer and learned how to use them.
I Would set my alarm for 5:00 am to get on while it wasn't busy. At first, I didn't post, there were self appointed post police that would tear you a new one, if you didn't hold your mouth just right. But finally, I thought, what the heck, they can't see me, they don't know me, I can take it.
Here I am ramblin on - what I wanted to do is say a great big thanks to John for the newest improvements.
Thanks John!!!
P.S.
When is it going to make my coffee in the morning?
Petunia might not sing anymore but she's still hustling drinks down by the fleet landing.
What are you smoking?? Personally, I'm so glad to be rid of that loser that I can barely contain my glee.
Corn, barley & hops will be dropped in at 02:30 hours.
Or, until a Buchanan thread, or a legalization of drugs thread, or Keyes thread, or a favorite music thread, or an abortion thread, or a stem-cell thread, or a Rush thread or, a Moderator's thread or a . . . thread starts up. ;-)
Viva FR! Viva JimRob & JohnRob! What did I do before March '98 when I first found this place????
My favorites have always been the circumcision threads...LOL
All I can say is thank God & Jim that FreeRepublic was around back then. I really thought I was all alone in my thinking until I stumbled here from Drudge. I would never have withstood the clinton years if not for the Freepers. And I mean that.
Cruel, but true.
A+Bert could be annoying at times but was always the spark for an amusing flame war. LOL.
BTW I found this though the Progressive Review who said it was the best Whitewater resource on the net. I found Druge from FR. Take That Matt.
If you remember, I was responsible for the founding of our idyllic Freeper Island.
It was on a thread about Susan McDougal and the Nancy Mehta lawsuit in California.
I merely suggester to Billie that she and I use Nancy's credit card to go out to lunch.
Before you knew it, others wanted to go too. and then Invictus piped up to say if things got any worse under Clinton he was going to sail back to an island in the Marquesas - the only place he'd found that was untouched by war. (He was with MacArthur in WWII)
Before we knew it, Clarity said he wanted to go, and all of us joined the crew -
Cap'n Daus took us there.
So many great memories!!!
Anyone remember the farting bride thread? LOL!
I joined up in a hurry back in 98 and named myself the first word that came to mind - have wished a number of times that I'd come up with a really clever name (like yours).
Shore 'nuf! Th' 1 an' only.
Socks C. is up in Klamath takin' care of the sucker fish problem. he wuz th' primary trash can cat.
"Beware of men in suits"
In days of yore it really was the 'Whitewater Bulletin Board'. When ISP's started becoming readily available everyone was ready to leave Prodigy. Jim set up his own website; Ken (SamAdams76) scouted it out and came back to report that it was a good format and suggested everyone hang out there. The rest is history.
