Do you remember Freepin in 1998?

I first found Free Republic through Drudge Report. I found Drudge by listening to the White House briefing sessions who constantly told everyone how radical he was. (I knew he was my kind of people.)
To get to my point, or to make a short story long, Does anyone else remember freepin back then?
There were days you couldn't get on. When you did get on, it took forever to load the posts. There were three options. Next 10 - 50 -100 and a simple search engine. Remember the posts that said "Please don't post graphics, I can't read the posts if you do."?
Don't get me wrong, many of the improvements that have been made, are because the technology has changed. I also got a faster modem and new computer and learned how to use them.
I Would set my alarm for 5:00 am to get on while it wasn't busy. At first, I didn't post, there were self appointed post police that would tear you a new one, if you didn't hold your mouth just right. But finally, I thought, what the heck, they can't see me, they don't know me, I can take it.
Here I am ramblin on - what I wanted to do is say a great big thanks to John for the newest improvements.
Thanks John!!!
P.S.
When is it going to make my coffee in the morning?

That makes me really old, doesn't it? :^) Actually, I remember Deb, Phil V. and a few others BEFORE we had to register - they were here before me, and I was here the END of '96 or the beginning of '97!

I am proud to be a 3/98 Freeper. There were days when I would literally Freep all through the weekend. I could tell how long I had been at the computer by the overflowing ashtrays and empty beer cans.
I swear, I would not have been able to retain my sanity over the Clinton years if it had not been for Free Republic.

I found FR in February '98, just as the Lewinsky story was ramping up (actually, found it the *day* Lewinsky broke on Drudge). Spent several months playing around the edges of this "oddball" site before the day Clinton was impeached that December. That day a different guy reflected back at me in the monitor screen. It was the look of an addict. Someone who had become a total FR junky.
The only thing to do after that was sign up with FR, and have been here ever since :-)

Very well-said. Mega-dittos (as Rush fans might say).

I've lost track of when I found this place. I found Drudge on my 3rd time on the net in the summer of 1996,(getting access in the rural areas was tough in those days), so whenever he put up that link on his site was my first visit here, I suppose. I'm user 113.

By far, the most insufferably "morally superior" posters at FR are athiests I thought you were a Christian.

Billie and some of the other girls turned the saloon into a fern bar which ticked off the drunks who left for more slutty environs. Billie, Take down the lace curtains, Get rid of the lavender urinal cakes. Reinstall the jalepeño cakes, Get some more pickeled eggs and fire up th' bar!

How are you finding out what # member you are?
To: SamAdams76
You were the 'scout bee', the one who came back to the Prodigy BB and posted the review of Jim's new site.

...Before we knew it, Clarity said he wanted to go, and all of us joined the crew - Cap'n Daus took us there. Well now, that is a sore spot with me. I was never invited to the island. I had to bully my way onto the Island to save Petunia from the It takes the Village People Cannibis/Canofbull/Cannibulls who were going to BBQ her. As the resident ACLU muckeydemuck it was my duty to save her from any further indignities after she was thrown into the Poopey Pool by Scuttlebutt and Daus and other libertarian types. After all this time Daus still threatens to BBQ her. As least Scuttlebutt allows her to have a good time down by the docks...sure beats that crick she used to hang out at with Billary...

But I do miss some of the old crazy threads that used to hang around for ages, getting stranger and stranger...
In particular I remember the poopy-pool thread and the Mondale's daughter thread.
You could get away with some comments back then that would get you banned these days.
Gawd, we had fun.

That's how I found Free Republic too ... via the White Water link at Drudge.

Hmmm... what ever happened to those guys? ;^] Probably still freeping in another incarnation... I wonder who?

Connie Hair "Clinton's a Liar" went all out and sent care packages to the wives of service men in harms way and bombing over Yugoslavia. She collected money and donations from freepers based on DITHF's c ommunications. I think she sent them to DITHF too. Dithf actually had everyone believing he was in the service and had inside information about the tactics and progress of the "top secret operations" going on. He was a scam artisat and preyed on the finely feathered tin foiled brain cells of the Freeper community.

Other posters take stands just as vigorous in accordancewith their religion-repudiating beliefs. One is no more worthyof expression than the other. That's white of you.

That's more like it. There's nothing like a hateful Christian to
stir up the respondents.
