Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
Luke 10:37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
I know what you asked me. And I said that we're instructed by Jesus to make measured judgements. Since I'm not God I underdstand my judgements could ultimately turn out to be wrong. Doesn't mean I should stop making judgements. My judgements are based on what I observe with my spiritual and physical senses. If you want to disagree with my judgments you are entitled and welcomed to do just that. You have no right to tell me I should stop making judgments.
Israelite98 has everybody doing it now! Even Dave is using just Scripture to reply!

I don't have a link to the entire Bible, but here's a link to the abridged Protestant version. ;-)

I didnt say you have no right to make judgements. My initial response was to this:
And once they're told that's what they're doing there's still no reason to change anything inwardly or outwardly.
Your response indicates you have some level of knowledge regarding the inward disposition of someones soul. The truth of the matter is you dont.
If youll notice the examples I gave, were works of show, not those done in the privacy of friends and fellow believers. The only exception was circumcision, which was obviously discontinued, but Ill bet that most keepers of the Jewish laws and feast such as your church, will have their boys circumcised on the eight day Am I right? Lol
You're right, Peter clearly understood the message because he said that God told him "not to call any MAN common or unclean.". Gentiles were no longer considered to unpure. Reading anything else into it (in my opinion) is the same as the Jews adding oral tradition to the law. As for why God used the example of animals I can only give theories.
So God told Peter to kill and eat these animals that had been previously been unclean to Peter, to show him that Gentiles were also cleansed now, and he shouldnt be a respector of persons by avoiding the Gentiles, but then, God took his example away, and made the animals unclean again? That would make no sense to me.
Speculation again. It may have been written for future Christians, but surely not with the understanding that God was making unclean foods clean.
No animal flesh was eaten during the time from Adam to Noah.
The reason God had identified clean from unclean animals prior to the flood, was for sacrificial purposes to him. <
After the flood, God told Noah ..
Gen 9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
God gave man every thing that liveth, to eat, which included,beast, and creeping thing and every fowl, and whatever creepeth upon the earth to eat at will, now do you have a problem with every thing that liveth?
Please point out the wiggle room in this scripture.
More to come. (^g^) JH

(It's time I had some time alone)
Mt 15: 11. Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
So Christ was saying that there are things that a man can put in his mouth that will defile him then? You sure could have fooled me, because I thought Not that which goes into the mouth was a rather complete thought. How can you get something into your body with out it first going through your mouth?
Mt 15:17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
V-18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
V-19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
V-20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
Which brings up another point...Christ didn't consider swine an acceptable food either:
Mat 8:30 And there was a good way off from them a herd of many swine, feeding.
Mat 8:31 And the demons begged Him, saying, If You cast us out, allow us to go away
into the herd of swine.
Mat 8:32 And He said to them, Go! And when they had come out, they went into the
herd of swine. And behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place
into the sea and perished in the waters.
Youre asking me if in Jerusalem, at the time of Christ, didnt the Jews look at swine as an abomination, and unclean?
Yes, just as you do today, and while Jesus walked on earth, he knew they were unclean to all Jews, and such were kept around as garbage disposals.
If you prefer to think that for some reason God hated his creation of unclean animals so much that he let Jesus kill a herd of them, thats alright with me, but it shows the same attitude that God had to correct in Peter.
(^g^) JH
So here we are again, God did create inferior beings and animals after all. God allowed this attitude to develop to keep Israel a separate nation, but now that Jesus had come, that part of the plan was over, and now were down to whats in the heart of a man, and not external appearances and works for vain reasons.
This attitude that some men were somehow unclean from creation, or what they ate, is what Paul fought all his ministry, and remember, he spent forty days with Christ after he had Gods Holy Spirit, and he had the understanding of these things that God intended him to have.
This seperatist attitude was what Paul argued with Peter over, and what caused the division between the Jews and the Gentiles, as referred to in Ephesians by Paul.
Eph 2: 15. Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
V-16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
It was these ordinances and laws that drove the wedge between the Gentile and the Jew, because the Jew couldnt get over the fact that the Gentiles werent keeping the meat laws, therefore they were dirty, and they shouldnt be around unclean people like them.
This was the attitude Paul had to fight, this was the enmity that was brought about by these ordinances and commandments that were against them, and prevented them from being one in Christ.
finished, Whew!! (^g^) JH
God is a strong advocate of war;
Regarding the draft;
Nu:1:3: "From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies."
Protection in war;
Nu:10:9: "And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies."
Guidance in war;
De:20:12: "And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:"
De:21:10: "When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive,..."
Jos:8:1: "And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:"
Keep in mind that war to God is a preventative measure, not an agressive act, or at any rate, not agressive without provocation. War is what we call a "necessary evil", and critical to the perpetuation of freedom on earth.
I need more rest from all this war. :)
