I think the wooden dowel has something to do with state hunting laws... for a limit on shots fired at certain animals. I had a cardboard dowel which I lost about 20 years ago.

Same goes with camping in northern Az. We also have some unfavorables down here in the valley. Back to the topic of women and guns, my mother and sister are both very effective with any fire-arm and proud holders of concealed weapons permits. I feel safer just knowing that.

A lot of Americans disagree.

I went to a gun store for ammo today, and the place was absolutely packed! I was so happy to see my fellow Americans wisely attending to the defense of themselves and their families.

The store I was in today had boxes of 1,400 cases of 7.62x39mm for $90. There were 20 round boxes for $3.50. So, that should be an indication of approximately what you should expect to pay.

boxes of 1,400 cases of 7.62x39mm

That should have read: cases of 1,400 rounds of 7.62x39mm.

That's what I typed; my fingers just output the wrong letters. :-P

Umm...yes guns do make us safer and make us feel safer. Australia took all guns away from its people, and look at the largely increased crime rates in many areas.

Two Possible scenarios:

Example 1: Woman is in fear of being raped by her date, so she pulls a gun out from under the couch. It isn't even loaded, but he doesn't know that and she forces him to leave at gunpoint.

Example 2: A grandmother is watching her three young grandchildren when she hears the front door get kicked open downstairs in the middle of the night. She is alarmed and runs to the closet and pulls out her late husband's old revolver, which is not loaded. She runs down stairs for fear of the kids' safety and point the gun at the would-be attacker/robber. He is startled and runs at the sight of the gun, he has no idea if it's loaded or not, but he doesn't want to get shot and he runs.

See what I mean?

Although I already have a rifle, I'd like to get a pistol and CCW, and now is as good a time as any, I suppose. I just need to figure out what is the right weapon for me. I've been through the "which weapon to get threads," and it seems that the best weapon is highly dependent on individual preference.

The lies in that editorial make me more determined than ever to start picking one out ASAP.

Considering that gun sales tend to be up among American females, I find this statement of more gun purchases as "hysteria" to be blatantly sexist!

Rebecca...Liberty Belles resents your implication that the desire to protect oneself is "hysteria"!

a *grandma* in our old neighborhood told my spouse to shoot intruders, even if they weren't technically 'in the house' and drag the corpse inside. lol!!

I had a cardboard dowel

dow·el (doul)
n.

  1. A usually round pin that fits tightly into a corresponding hole to fasten or align two adjacent pieces.
  2. A piece of wood driven into a wall to act as an anchor for nails.

tr.v. dow·eled, dow·el·ing, dow·els, also dow·elled dow·el·ling dow·els
  1. To fasten or align with dowels: table legs that are doweled to the top.
  2. To equip with dowels.

Never had a cardboard one of those in any shotgun, I and my friends use in Mississippi in the '50's.

More lies, innuendo and fear-mongering.

On September 11, guns in the hands of pilots and military passengers could have saved thousands of lives.

"I agree with a comment from another thread "It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by six." meaning I'll keep my guns until they come and get me."

And when they come to get me, they'll have to kill me. Meanwhile, I'll be taking as many of them with me as I can. Anyone that trys to take my guns is an enemy and will be dealt with accordingly.

I find yourcomments more reasonable. I really take exception to the 20/20 hindsight experts who fault "the government" at every opportunity. Does he want police state gov't that may or may not control these situations or does he want a republican state that may or may not control these situations. I, for one, want my freedoms and I also believe the gov't is doing all it can at this time. This is not, repeat not, the time for disention and disruption.
