If you have a baby on the way, bought a new car or house, found out your kid aced his SAT, are having a good harvest, caught an excellent fish, or have some other happy news please post it. I am so depressed and sad for my country, and I don't know ANYONE in person who has had anything nice happen in the last month. Not one person.

...more good news...Tomorrow I am having a birthday party for my baby girl, who turns One on Tuesday. I didn't want to spend $25 on a cake, so I made one and decorated it myself...and it looks good. :)
Funny story: I laughed at the women in Wal-Mart last night who gawked (thinking I might care that they were making fun of me) as I loaded my basket with 14 individual gallons of drinking water. (It was cheaper to buy it that way.) They looked at me as if I were out of my mind. I said "Wow! I'm parched!" and walked off laughing.
On a less shallow note, I know that I am ready, no matter what comes...and that is the "happiest" thing I can report. To live is Christ, to die is gain.

My twelve year old daughter was confronted by the sexual acting out of a female peer in her church group. The girl told my daughter everything... My daughter came to me and we have had long talks about sex and behavior. Good talks. I cannot beleive the maturity and faith she has shown about this isssue. She has also won a coveted second soprano seat in the chorus she has joined (she can sing many octives.
My nine year old remains sunny and happy despite not being able to do one of her most favorite things - Karate. We seriously ran out of money. Instead, a neighbor is giving her free knitting lessons. She is having a wonderful homeschool year.
My six year old is learning to read in homeschool. He is writing numbers doing simple addition and listening to bible stories.
The four year old has mostly stopped hitting her brother.
I lost 47 pounds. Only 30 more to go. Men are actually noticing me again!! Not bad for "older than the hills."

We won our first volleyball match of the year Thursday night! Won all three games. I am very sore and can barely move. But it was worth it to play again!

As of today, shamelessly shopping stores sales, my freezer is full of meat for the winter, all my favorite cuts, all bought on the cheap, a vertible cornicopia for one who loves to cook as I do...One can never miss what one has never had...without a can opener, my mother was never able to put anything on the table...with my darlin' wife, it's the microwave...sigh.
As for stock, it was about my turn with my experiences with Quest, Corning Glass (GLW), and Montana Power (MTP).

We call our squirrel "Fall Guy". I forgot to mention our cat which is an extremely prolific hunter had gone over and was sniffing the squirrel as it laid stunned after it fell from the tree.
Amazingly the cat did nothing, probably because the squirrel was not moving. What a lucky squirrel! Sounds like you got a lucky squirrel as well.

"I am so depressed and sad for my country, and I don't know ANYONE in person who has had anything nice happen in the last month. Not one person."We are alive and healthy and strong.
Piss on the cowards who are trying to disrupt that.

CC, what a beautiful idea to celebrate the good midst the mountains of bad! Thanks so much. Early to bed last night prevented my enjoyment of reading this thread until this morning.....a very nice way to begin the day.
Fall Guy, what a wonderful screen name! Welcome aboard.....you eligible to become one of the psychoceramics! Of course, you'll have to eat spam and cheese concoctions with phish and squid. Any ideas for new recipes will be most welcome!
SB, what a neat idea for inducting another navy man to FR and bringing more muscle (and good looks) to the crew! Scuttlebutt and he will entertain us with their sea faring tales.
Captain ofMagog, don't say "Cough it up" when near your cat!
LadyX, with Fall Guy's addition to the crew, do you think COB1 and the guys will curb their flirting with Snow Bunny? Some interesting adventures coming up! LOL

The crew is getting a well deserved rest and the yacht is undergoing minor repairs. Bait is better, but still has not learned what Costa Rican varmints should not be eaten. Unfortunately, the warning colors of dangerous snakes, frogs, and other critters down here are attractants to the cat . . . as is beer.
Ticos (USA people living here, mostly retirees) are concerned about relatives back home.
Lots of US flags all over the place.
Welcome aboard, FallGuy!

Thanks for the Happy Birthday wish... but the line about the new grandchild was a quote from surrey's post. I imagine one will come along one of these days, but not yet.
For the time being I just spoil my nieces and nephews.

many thanks--I'll pass along the "Happy Birthday"to her.
Here's hoping all you freepers have a wonderful weekend--hug your children, kiss your spouse, call your mom and dad. Focus on what is important. ***S-M-I-L-E!***

The world really is a small place. I was thrilled to see that Northwest Colorguard is going strong. My daughter was in the colorguard at Northwest from 1984 to 1988. She was Co-Captain one year and Captain one year. She absolutely loved it and it made her high school years very special. We all have very fond memories of color guard competitions, especially the ones held in Busch Stadium. What fun!!
Tell all the guard members to have a great year and they have several people cheering for them down in Louisiana. (My daughter, who is married now and has twin boys who will be two yrs. old soon, can hardly wait to come over and read all about the guard.)

Just got back from a nice vacation. poorman and I drove out to see his parents in eastern South Dakota, then visited his sister and family in Sturgis.
We drove through the northern 1/2 of the Black Hills (seen Rushmore before) and then back through Rapid City and out to Badlands National Park. We then spent 2 days at the Mall of America before heading home to eastern Wisconsin.
I have to go to Wallyworld and pick up my photos today, then I will post them at my websites.

What a coincidence, my 16-yr-old daughter just got her learners permit today! Condolences to you. ;)
The DPS examiner told my son, "Well, I guess this means you can drive alone now." I said, "No it doesn't." LOL.
