Sarah Brady: Tighter Gun Laws Needed to Prevent Terrorism and Strengthen National Security
(Washington, D.C.) Sarah Brady, Chair of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, today issued the following statement regarding the House and Senate's passage of anti-terrorism legislation.
"With passage of this legislation, Congress has taken a significant step toward ensuring that law enforcement has the tools needed to investigate and deter terrorist attacks. But there is one glaring omission - nothing in these bills will close the gaps in our federal firearm laws that allow terrorists to amass their deadly arsenals.
"We know from recent terrorism investigations that these dangerous criminals will exploit any opening in our laws to buy weapons, including firearms. In some cases, they have gone to gun shows and bought firearms and ammunition from unlicensed sellers who were not required to conduct criminal background checks.
"Incredibly, our soldiers could be gunned down by foreign terrorists armed with firearms purchased at American gun shows. We can, and must, close loopholes in our firearm laws by requiring a background check every time a firearm is sold. A criminal background check is a minor inconvenience for gun buyers - most are completed within minutes - but is a key tool for protecting public safety. We must also ensure that there are records of all firearm sales so that law enforcement officials can track terrorists, trace their weapons, and know what threats they are facing when they attempt to apprehend these criminals.
"Any anti-terrorism proposal that fails to address easy access to firearms and retention of records is clearly inadequate. If we need more careful screening of people entering our country, surely we need to check the background of people buying guns once they are here. And it makes no sense to crack down on terrorists laundering money, if we allow them to use their cash to buy weapons with impunity. Congress and the Administration should work together to make this counter-terrorism package more comprehensive."
I'm sure this is how she deals with her pain, but should somebody tell her how silly this sounds?
The only gun control I want is a leather strap over the hammer while I'm ridin'.
She is refering to terrorists? Or was it just one dumb kid at a highschool who used someone of legal age to obtain the shotgun and some other piece of crap semi auto. Or is she beginning to call anyone with a weopon a terrorist. No mention of making box cutters a registered weopon is there. She can hang it up! Nobody is listening.
In some cases, they have gone to gun shows and bought firearms and ammunition from unlicensed sellers who were not required to conduct criminal background checks.
Please, Sarah. Show us some evidence of this, not just your word. Evidence. (She won't. She has none.)
"Incredibly, our soldiers could be gunned down by foreign terrorists armed with firearms purchased at American gun shows..."
Sarah has really hit bottom on the looney-tunes circuit. Does she seriously believe the terrorists need to get any of their guns at U.S. gunshows? They can get all the AK-47s - not to mention M-16s, RPGs, and SA-7s - they can carry from their own sources. Why shop for some bolt action Remington or S&W revolver at some Gun Show in Paduchah? Check out the Taliban, the KLA, the Chechnyans, the Palestinians, the... They all carry the latest and finest in arms, primarily Chinese or Russian vintage. They don't need to skulk around gun shows looking for odds and ends or the best deal in ammo. They can get truckloads of the stuff from their buddies, just for asking.
Words fail when confronted with the tripe the Sarah Bradys of this world put out as believable, much less factual! Grave-robbers and ghouls, that's what they are; graverobbers and ghouls, trading on the emotions of September 11th.
His reply was "This b*tch is so idiotic beyond belief"
Couldn't believe my ears...
Yeah, right.
