Wednesday October 10, 12:33 pm Eastern Time

CHICAGO, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Three Saudi men removed from a United Airlines (NYSE:UAL - news) flight after they mistakenly tried to open an exit window to get air circulating during the boarding process were only confused passengers, the FBI said on Wednesday.

``They didn't understand English, didn't read English. They were trying to get some air circulating in the airplane,'' FBI spokeswoman Virginia Wright said of Tuesday night's incident

The three were questioned by the FBI and police and later released, she said.

Two brothers were escorting their ill father to St. Louis for a liver transplant and had just boarded United Flight 729, a Boeing 727, at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport when one of the brothers attempted to open an exit window over a wing.

``The incident was a result of the inability of the flight crew to communicate with the passengers. They were Saudi Arabians who spoke no English,'' Wright said. ``They were not experienced flyers. They were novice about airplane travel.''

The airline brought in a new aircraft and the flight later departed at 9:10 p.m. (10:10 p.m. EDT/1410 GMT).

In an unrelated incident, an Australian man was arrested in Chicago on Tuesday after he allegedly became drunk on a flight from Los Angeles and had to be restrained by several passengers after assaulting a flight attendant, the FBI said. He was identified as Kevin Houghton, 31, of Melbourne, Australia. That incident occurred on the same Los Angeles to Chicago flight on which a day earlier an apparently deranged man tried to rush the cockpit.

I think copy cats are taking advantage of the situation, like sending powder to the IRS and State Dept. We have some pretty sick tickets in this country. Like the idiot that buzzed a county fair in Georgia, what a sense of humor.

I try not to be to fearless but I think the worst is over, it makes me pretty furious to see dorks taking advantage of this situation to deal their own brand of terror. I think they should face the same prison time as any terrorist.

Annoyerism. The copycat pranks are very effective for drawing resources away from where they would be most needed.

Just in. KGUN TV Tucson has taken over a major hospital ER with a letter scare. Stupid.

Could be payback hoax for that newsroom's acting as the official shill for the local Islamists. As of yesterday, the local Imam still believes someone other than Bin Laden responsible for Sept. 11 atrocities. It's not what is said as how much time is devoted to this kumbaya fantasy about Islam in America. USA Today named Tucson one five major centers for sleeper activity going back several years. Too bad the FBI never told local law enforcement.

But I heard Dr. Larry Wayne Harris, microbiologist and author of a book on bacterial warfare that was published several years ago, on KTOK-AM 1000 here in the OKC metro, and he has changed my mind.

The cheese heads will flame you on that one. Do a search of him on here. I posted a thread yesterday, by a doctor, who listed reasons why we shouldn't believe Harris. Personally, I'm not convinced. See the second bold quote in the (long) article and you'll see the good doctor himself may not know what he's talking about......

I believe the guy could be very legit, but someone's interested in destroying him....

I agree.
That's part of the reason why PENTTBOM was not picked up by intelligence.
Too many "false alarms" breeds complacency and laxness.

How blatant does terrorists have to get to pass from a mere error/coincidence to become a "threat" with the officials in charge??????

lily, you know, you're probably correct. I think the profane question in #4 is really something to consider. I apologize for the c****e thing.

BTW, have you been to Judge Roy's court/bar? Pretty desolate land, isn't it?

Sorry, maybe I worded that wrong. It was escorted to the airport and landed safely. A passenger gave a stewardess a threatening note. The pilot reported it, and 2 of our fighters kindly escorted the plane to an airport in Shreveport, I think.

Just another of those isolated incidents./sarcasm I really am sorry about the poor wording.

"just another of those isolated incidents"--I know what you mean, maybe the media is reporting more... my dad is in Chicago (I grew up there), and of course yesterday there was that "isolated incident" with the man who banged on the cockpit door and two F16 jets escorted the plane back to Chicago.
There are a lot of "isolated incidents". I guess this sort of fear is what Osama wants, but you know, we're not all that fearful; we might be for one news cycle (i.e., yesterday with reports of white powder all over the country), but then, we find out what really happened really quickly, and we're not afraid. So the "terrorists" are not winning, IMHO. Just going to be a long struggle.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm a real Mike McCarvel fan--local conservative talk radio host here--and so I tend to give pretty high credit to anyone he interviews, as long as Mike himself doesn't seem to smell a rat. Fallacy of appeal to authority....

I'm standing in the unemployment line
I was listenin' to Mike
On company time;
My boss gave me a choice
Between work and hearing Mike
So I chose the one I really like...
Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, I listen every day
Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, 'cept for Saturday and Sunday
(He's not on then)
If he was, I'd tune in
I like Mike. I like Mike.

They were here for their father to get a liver transplant???? Are there any Americans waiting for liver transplants? If they have the money for that something tells me they are not novices when it comes to flying.

Not novices in flying.....my thoughts, exactly!

Back before 9/11, this was called stupidity. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

(I know - sometimes it something else entirely, but that's disgusting and we're still trying to pretend that we never learned about that.)

I don't think windows will open while in flight, something about inside airpressure and ourside lack of. I'm guessing that also wind speed outside an aircraft would prevent it. Don't know for sure. However, if it would be possible and none of the other passengers be harmed, that would be one quick way to get rid of a couple of the RagHeads.

Remember the tale "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"? Same principle applies here. I firmly believe the RagHeads will try something and it will be soon. I know they are basically dumb, however; to have executed the Horror on 9/11, I can't help but wonder what is the Plan B or Phase 2?

The smart thing for ALL of us to do is STAY ALERT! Report suspicious people and happenings to the authorities.

There's no reason we should be exporting American livers to rich Arabs. The demand for livers is so high in this country, that if anything we should be importing livers. I suggest we harvest them in Afghanistan, preferably from live Talabin or Al Quaeda personnel. Without anethesia mind you.
