I am sure you are all aware of the importance of the POW/MIA Flag. This flag was designed to honor the 92,000 American servicemen who are still missing since WW 1. The flag is also intended to honor the families of those 92,000 servicemen. These families and other loved ones have no place to go to stand above the remains of their loved one, profess their love for them, begin the grieving process, nor start finding closure for their loss.
The POW/MIA Flag proudly flies above of thousands of city, county, state, and federal buildings and facilities. The flag also flies over tens of thousands of businesses and private homes. The flag is displayed on motorcycles, cars and trucks across our country.
The flag has no political, religious nor racial undertones. It is, as stated, displayed to say thank you and we'll never forget to our missing brothers.
I am ashamed to say that in Kentucky some politicians have determined that the flag is offensive .
In Lexington , KY., Mayor Pam Miller had the flag removed from in front of the City Hall, after it had proudly flown there , daily, since 24 Sept. 2000. The Kentucky Vietnam Memorial is the only Vietmam Memorial, in the nation, where the POW/MIA Flag does not fly daily.
When we asked Mayor Miller why the flag was taken down she stated that some people had complained and the flag was staying down. She refused to tell us who complained and why. Shealso said she didn't care how many e-mails, phone calls or letters she received it would stay down, because she was not running for re-election and didn't care.
WE CAN NOT LET THIS HAPPEN. THE FLAG MEANS TO MUCH TO TO MANY PEOPLE. TO MANY DEDICATED PEOPLE HAVE WORKED TO HARD AND DONATED TOO MUCH OF THEIR TIME AND RESOURCES TO GET THOSE FLAGS FLYING.
We are obviously dealing with a politician who through a lack of courage and integrity has allowed herself, and her values, to be compromised by some "anti-American" special interest group. I say "anti-American" because I can not imagine any person , or group, who would be offended by this flag at anytime, let alone during this time of national crisis.
Please take the time to pass this along and to send Mayor Miller an e-mail to show your feelings.
This is just the start. If she succeeds in having our flag removed, others like her, and those who complained, will continue to disparage and disrespect our men and women in the military.

``On August 10, 1990, the 101st Congress passed U.S. Public Law 101-355, which recognized the League's POW/MIA flag and designated it "as the symbol of our Nation?s concern and commitment to resolving as fully as possible the fates of Americans still prisoner, missing and unaccounted for in Southeast Asia, thus ending the uncertainty for their families and the Nation".
The importance of the League?s POW/MIA flag lies in its continued visibility, a constant reminder of the plight of America's POW/MIAs. Other than "Old Glory", the League's POW/MIA flag is the only flag ever to fly over the White House, having been displayed in this place of honor on National POW/MIA Recognition Day since 1982. With passage of Section 1082 of the 1998 Defense Authorization Act during the first term of the 105th Congress, the League's POW/MIA flag will fly each year on Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, National POW/MIA Recognition Day and Veterans Day on the grounds or in the public lobbies of major military installations as designated by the Secretary of the Defense, all Federal national cemeteries, the national Korean War Veterans Memorial, the National Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the White House, the United States Postal Service post offices and at the official offices of the Secretaries of State, Defense and Veteran's Affairs, and Director of the Selective Service System.''
If there's somewhere you can point me to to get independent confirmation of Mayor Miller saying this, I can arrange to get it more widely publicized. Nothing against this post, but others will demand more evidence than a post on a website to believe what I am telling them. Thanks in advance.

"War Between the States Veteran Lifted Stars, Stripes Over Capitol"
"Harry Shaw, an old Confederate soldier in Frankfort, who died several years ago, probably was the only old veteran in Central Kentucky who, like Col. "Dick" Redd, up until his recent death, always was surrounded by children who clamored for his "war stories" and invariably called for the "rebel yell" at the finish."
"Harry was custodian of the Old Capitol at Frankfort in the days before the Kentucky Historical Society opened and installed their museum in the building; and after showing visitors through the century-old capitol, he gathered the party around him on the front steps and sang, "Morgan's Raiders", and "The Girl I Left Behind Me", winding up with the "rebel yell" and with distributing copies of the songs used by Morgan's men."
"Upon the entrance of the United States into the World War, the Old Capitol was taken over by the federal government as a sub-station for the manufacture of army shirts. On the day the shirt depot opened, a ceremony was held in connection with the raising of the American flag on a large pole by the federal authorities."
"While the arrangements for the ceremony were being made, it developed that Harry Shaw, while with Morgan's men, had participated in the capture of Frankfort and that he accompanied a Captain from Louisiana who climbed on top of the Old Capitol, lowered the "Stars and Stripes" and raised the "Stars and Bars".
"Harry came to the local committee in charge of the ceremony, told them of the Frankfort raid, and the deed of the Louisiana Captain and himself, and asked the privilege of "restoring Old Glory", now that the United States had declared war on Germany. The privilege was granted and Harry, after bowing his bared head and with tears in his eyes, hoisted the flag to the top of the pole and then gave the "rebel yell" for Uncle Sam."

We not only need to Freep this empty-headed twit, she needs to be remembered for this outrage, lest she float to the surface of her sewer again. She needs to be reminded on a daily basis that's she's a moron, as well as a traitor-not just to Country or Ideology, but to human beings, people who lived and loved and left behind families, people who never made it home, and loved ones who never knew for sure. Liberals care more about kangaroo rats than human beings less "politically correct" than themselves.
