Would We Want a Woman to Be President Duing This Crisis?

I was at a Tucson Republican Women function a couple of evenings ago. I mentioned to a Gen-X woman (I'm a Boomer) that she has contributed so much to our organization as a new member and young woman. Then I teased, "Maybe someday you'll be the first woman President."

She became very serious and said that while she plans to run for office, she believes that the office of the President is not meant for a woman. She asked how I would feel right now, in this crisis, if a woman were in charge.

It made me think. Are we too emotional for that office? Would we, as mothers, be able to send our young people into harm's way when necessary?

I think this young woman may have a point.

"Yeah, I know there are superlative exceptions like Maggie Thatcher - but by and large most women are unfit to vote, being inordinately influenced by demogogues and celebrities and their own emotions. "

I suspect there are more men, and women, then would care to admit it, that agree with you. The growth of big nanny government can be directly attributed to the woman's vote. And remember, women voted overwhelmingly for BJ Clinton both times. And for Gore too.

-A woman president like Diane Finestein, no.

A gutsy woman like Margaret Thatcher or Queen Elizabeth I, yes.

It would depend on the person, irregardless of gender. But generally speaking, I strongly prefer to see a man in any high position. Yes, I'm a strong woman myself but truly enjoy the male vs. female differences, be they subtle or obvious. I am strong (confident) enough in myself to not have the need to be president just to prove a point.

I am one also, but I don't see myself as a traitor to my sex, just reasonable and observant.
