The Brady Boomers - The 'Tween Generation
Posted on 10/05/2001 2:36:58 PM PDT by WIMom
Most who were born at the tail end of the baby boom
- 1956 to 1964 or the beginning of GenX - 1965 to 1970 -
feel we are not part of those generations.
Therefore, it has been decided, we will be forever know as
THE BRADY BOOMERS
- We were too young to serve in Vietnam, but remember the news.
- As far as we're concerned, the music, television and popular entertainment and heroes of the 60s were and still are a matter for personal taste, and don't represent the shining apex of all civilization, icons to be revered by generations to come - in short, the Beatles were just a band that some might not like, and old Trek was cheesy and not well written.
- Old boomers came into adulthood at while we were playing with Barbies or G.I. Joes.
- Our clothes and music tended to be lighthearted, and we are more conservative/libertarian as a whole than the older boomers.
- And of course, we faithfully watched The Brady Bunch every Friday night.
BRADY TRIVIA
- How many rooms were in the Brady Bunch's home?
- What was Carol's nickname?
- What was Mike's occupation?
- How many kids were auditioned for the cast of the tv show?
- In one episode, Bobby lied about knowing a pro football player. Who?
- Where did the back door in the kitchen lead to?
- Name the Elementary, Jr. High & High Schools that the kids attended
- How much did Greg's first car cost?
- What was the name of the family's pet sheepdog?
- What was the name of the rarely seen next door neighbors on the tv show?
- Which Little House on the Prairie cast member appeared on the Brady Bunch?
- What item in the back yard was never used once throughout the series?
Post your memories of tunes, movies, shows, fashions, school stuff, or anything from OUR generations! And remember, have fun!

You're not that old! Born April 28, 1957. That makes me only 199 years younger than President James Monroe.
The interesting thing about being born in 1957--we graduated in 1975, switch 57 to 75.

"The interesting thing about being born in 1957--we graduated in 1975, switch 57 to 75."Wow. That is interesting.
I was born in 1961. If you turn our year upside down...
It's STILL 1961.
Guess what else?
I can turn my eyelids inside out! With pencils in my nose, I can be very frightening.

I've always thought us as the "No limits" generation. We were the first generation to grow up with "Space Travel" as a reality and not just a possibility much less only a dream. I know what you mean. When I was a kid, I fully expected to visit the moon as a tourist in my forties. I was an absolute NASA groupie when I was a kid, with posters and pictures, and patches. The respect I had for that government agency slowly withered as I watched them lapse into waste and cowardice and politics.
Former hero John Glenn, with his political payola spaceflight fiasco, finally killed any vestiges of respect I once had for that agency.
Anyway, maybe I'll make it to the moon, or at least space, as an old man. Maybe not.
The baby boomers were useless, Gen-X hasn't shown much promise.
But I think the next generation will pick up the slack, as generations that must usually do. Maybe they'll even be wise enough not to give themselves a dopey name until they actually accomplish something.
