The bugler's call--A Tribute to CHIEF negotiator
October 5th, 2001 | Luis Gonzalez

Posted on 10/05/2001 1:17:44 PM PDT by Luis Gonzalez

The bugler's call

Did you hear the bugler’s call,
so faint, and so far away?
Did you hear it? Did you listen?
I just heard it, heard just yesterday.

I heard it in the horizon,
just below the line of sight.
I heard it in the stilled darkness,
of a moonlit autumn night.

It called an old, rugged warrior,
called him to his last post.
Defending the gates of Heaven,
commanded by the Holy Ghost.

He’s our friend, and he stands ready,
today, still, as he has every single time.
Anytime his country needed him,
needed him to hold the line.

So tell me, did you hear the bugler’s call?
Did you hear it call our friend?
Don’t be sad, and always remember him,
A Marine, an American, and a Patriot to the end.

For CHIEF negotiator, Rest In Peace friend.

1       Sunset and evening star,
2         And one clear call for me!
3     And may there be no moaning of the bar,
4         When I put out to sea,

5       But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
6         Too full for sound and foam,
7     When that which drew from out the boundless deep
8         Turns again home.

9       Twilight and evening bell,
10       And after that the dark!
11   And may there be no sadness of farewell,
12       When I embark;

13     For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
14       The flood may bear me far,
15   I hope to see my Pilot face to face
16       When I have crost the bar.

Such deep grief is felt among his many, many friends, r-b.
Have you read what was just posted by Taxman - that the death was NOT an accident?
That makes it all the more unbearble....it was NOT his time to leave us.

that the death was NOT an accident?

Yes, and it worries me greatly.

I am listening to Mozart's Requiem by the Ljubjana Symphony Orchestra of Yugoslavia in his honor.

The Thunderbirds and the Traveling Wall are both in town for the Confederate Air Force ( God, I hope they drop the name change now) Air Show.

To all, remember the Scout Motto Be Prepared!

Beautiful tribute, Luis. Thanks for putting your feelings...and mine....into words.

I did not die. So true, Howlin. CHIEF lives.....in all our hearts and memories. God has embraced him now. Our job is to find and bring to justice the miscreant who took him from us.

Semper Fi bump!

If the Army and the Navy
ever look on Heaven's scenes.
They will find the streets are guarded
by United States Marines!

I bet he's already standing a duty watch :-)

Dad gummit, Luis, You did it again!! Last night it was Jimmy's Flag and tonight this lovely poem! I'll have to learn to keep the Kleenex box close to the computer!

I hope Chief's in-laws will be sure to show this to his wife. I think she'll take comfort knowing there were many here who were sometimes amused and sometimes inspired, but always entertained by Chief Negotiator.

Thank you for the beautiful, loving tribute to our man CHIEF.

CHIEF, these aren't tears in my eyes, there must be lots of dust in the air. Cripes, CHIEF, what are we gonna do without you?
