Bump for a number of fine organizations. If one has a boat or marine radio join the US Coast Guard Auxillary one can help the Coast Guard do its job by taking some of the Search and Rescue load off their shoulders.

Thanks for the list above! I'd like to get involved as a civilian, but what can I do? Can you list what each civilian org does above to give me an idea?

Great list! I have two family members now on active duty. I've signed-up for the Red Cross First Aid course, and stocking home supplies.

How do I get a conceal-carry permit?

Many cities and counties are forming and training Community Emergency Assistance Teams (CERT). These teams provide aid in the event of natural disaster or emergency. I am a team leader in my county and urge you to contact your local Office of Emergency Services and inquire where your community is in this process. If they’re lagging, hold their feet to the fire by forming volunteer Neighborhood Emergency Assistance groups and inviting whatever lead agency is in charge of this replacement to Civil Defense. Many areas are resisting because of their bias against “civilian involvement”.

This post is a great idea. I was wondering how I might participate as a civilian.

All of these fine organizations deserve our support and appreciation. They cannot, of course, do the job alone. Responsible Americans everywhere must become armed, and trained in the use of arms, and we must all open our eyes and be vigilant against danger. The job is made nearly impossible, of course, by the fact that there are one million legal temporary visa-holders from suspect countries here in our midst. A significant fraction of these legal visitors from suspect countries are here to do us maximum harm. We are right to protect ourselves and we can count on the help of the fine organizations listed here, but of course it will all come to nothing when the next attack occurs. The next attack is coming. Far worse than the last. Terrorists here on legal visas are working for the next big massacre. That is a sure thing. All the kings horses and all the kings men...

It doesn't much matter how much we give,
The terrorists hate the fact that we live,
They come from a culture incurably sick,
It only makes sense that we send them home quick.

I am surprised that you left out the State Defence Forces (variously called State Guards, State Military Reserves, State Militias, etc.). These are organised in 28 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. They are officially part of the Organised Militia (as it is termed in Maryland, my state), but have no Federal duties or responsibilities, and receive no Federal funds, unlike the National Guard. Some states maintain only small cadres in their Defense Forces, others have large and active organizations. You should inquire if your state has a DF, and if so, how to join (usually, a parallel unit is maintained at each NG Armory). If your state does not have a Defense Force, contact your state legislators and demand that they organise one.

Thanks for the great links, I remember when this type of action was called Civil Defense as you state.

I have some important purchases to make in the next few months, and am trying to see how I can utilize my boat as mentioned on a thread some weeks ago.

It's good you are back active again on this forum.
