Help in Compiling A Patriotic Music CD (vanity/input needed)
Posted on 10/01/2001 1:47:55 PM PDT by FlJoePa
Fellow Freepers would know more than anyone, so I am asking for some input on some entries into a Patriotic Music CD I am compiling - using only my own personal cd's - no copyright infringement, mp3 downloads here (heh heh).
What I have so far:
God Bless America - Kate Smith
Proud to be an American - Lee Greenwood
Ballad of the Green Berets - Barry Sadler
The Pledge of Allegience - Red Skelton
America, Why I Love Her - John Wayne
National Anthem - Leann Rimes
Okie From Muskogee - Merle Haggard
Battle Hymn of the Republic - Mormon Tabernacle Choir
God Bless America - Leann Rimes
America the Beautiful - Ray Charles
Facing British Lines - The Patriot Soundtrack
I would greatly appreciate any input or opinions that many of my patriotic Freeper brothers and sisters could offer.
Thanks in advance.

George Carlin wrote that song.

Don't remember the title, but it goes like this:
In the southern part of Texas
Near the town of San Antone
Like a statue on his pony
Rides a cowboy all alone.
And he sees the cattle grazin'
Where a century before
Santa Anna's guns were blazin'
And the cannons used to roar.
His eyes grow sort of misty
And his heart begins to glow
And he takes his hat off slowly
To the men of Alamo.......
Wish I could remember who did this one. Can't hear it all with a dry eye. Of course, The Marine Corp's Hymn is an absolute must. My theme is courage and sacrifice when courage and sacrifice are most needed. We need to be aprayin', and the Navy Hymn is as good a prayer for the safety of our military as there is.
JMHO.

I heard that his inspiration came from a rallying speech by Sitting Bull to his warriors.

I'm trying to recall the Rough Rider's theme song as depicted in the 1997 film, "The Rough Riders", but alas, am drawing a blank.

I thought that song was Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog?" I guess we could be talking about two different songs.
Thanks again to all for the great suggestions.

In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans This song was the first to come to my mind when I first read this thread but had just read the thread on British ships moving in so wasn't sure to post it. ;)
Anyway I love this song and glad to see others do too.
Boston Pops has a patriotic medley that is really good.

That Neil Diamond song about Coming to America. Lots of John Phillip Sousa. Simon & Garfunkel's "America" (try the version done by YES).
