Tina Brown finally got a Clinton on her payroll.
Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton, 21, has agreed to write a story for Talk Magazine about her experiences during the World Trade Center attack, a source at the magazine said.
"Chelsea Clinton is pursuing a piece for us related to the World Trade Center disaster," the Talk source said.
The story is expected to run in the November issue of the magazine, though the publication date has not been finalized. Ms. Clintons piece is assigned at roughly 1200 words.
A spokesperson for Talk did not immediately return a phone call.
It appears that Talk approached Ms. Clinton, a Stanford graduate who is set to enter Oxford University in England later this fall to study international relations.
Though Ms. Clinton has typically kept a distance from the media, she was so troubled by the World Trade Center tragedy and by the fact that friends of hers lost loved ones she decided to go public with her thoughts, a friend of the former First Daughter said.
"She was so moved by the events," the friend said. The friend added that Ms. Clinton didnt intend to give any more interviews related the tragedy.
Chelsea Clinton was in New York City September 11, the day of the attack. In an interview with NBCs Jane Pauley, Ms. Clintons mother, New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, said her daughter had planned to go jogging that morning around the World Trade Center plaza, but opted to go to a coffee shop instead.
"She was going to go around the towers," Senator Clinton said. "She went to get a cup of coffee and that's when the plane hit."
Senator Clinton said she wasnt able to reach Chelsea for two hours after the attack, and was afraid to tell her husband, former President Bill Clinton, who was traveling at the time.
"Bill was in Australia and he was so upset by what he was seeing on television that I didnt want to tell him that I couldnt find her until I found her," Senator Clinton said. "I told him, everythings fine, dont worry."
Chelsea Clinton has subsequently visited Ground Zero, the site of the demolished World Trade Center, and talked to rescue personnel on the scene.
Reached by The Observer, a spokesperson for former President Bill Clinton declined comment on anything related to Ms. Clinton and Talk magazine. The spokesperson reiterated a standing policy of not discussing anything related to Chelsea Clinton.
This is not the first courtship of a member of the Clinton family by Talk Magazine, which is edited by Tina Brown and funded in part by Miramax, the film company co-chaired by movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.
The first issue of Talk, which premiered in September 1999, included an exclusive cover story and interview with then First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. Last year, the companys book division, Talk Miramax Books, pursued the rights to publish Senator Clintons autobiography, but lost out to Simon & Schuster, which paid nearly $8 million.
Mr. Weinstein is among the most public supporters of the former First Family, having raised thousands of dollars for the former President and Senator Clinton, as well as former Vice-President Al Gore.
Ms. Brown and Mr. Weinstein also co-hosted a victory party in New York City for Senator Clinton in November 2000 along with Michael Bloomberg.

These people won't just go away. They have to exploit the attack on the WTC for their own publicity! Yikes!
You mention on your profile page that you are a New York City journalist -- can you tell me who you work for? Print, radio, or television?
(I've got a reason to ask this -- I'll tell you after you respond)
I saw this interview with Jane and Broom Hilda .. and I thought she said Chelsea was in Central Park at the time the plane hit ..
I'm not real familiar with NYC .. but isn't the WTC several blocks away???
I have to admit ... that is totally gross .. if my dad bought me something like that .. it would give me the creeps ...
Then all of a sudden we started hearing the spin about how Chelsea was 13 blocks away from the towers. Then we hear she was actually going to jog around the towers (which makes no sense, unless it depends upon what the meaning of "around" is -- why would someone jog on crowded city streets during the morning rush hour). But stopping for a cup of coffee miraculously saved Princess Chelsea.
Give me a break -- the only senator in New York who had a valid fear about his daughter's safety was Schumer, not Clinton.
More like 4 and a half miles away. WTC to the beginning of Central Park (which is at East 59th street) is about 4.5 miles. PLUS Central Park is quite long. Did they say which part of Central Park? Central Park reaches from E. 59th street up to 110th street in Harlem (2.8 miles).
ON TUESDAY MORNING Sen. Hillary Clintons first thought when the second plane hit was terrorists. Her next thought was Chelsea, who was not only in New York, but staying downtown.
Shed gone on what she thought would be just a great jog, says Sen. Clinton. She was going to go down Battery Park. She was going to go around the Towers. She went to get a cup of coffee and thats when the plane hit.
Chelsea was close enough to hear the rumble? She did hear it, says Clinton. She did.
And to see the smoke in person, not on television? Thats right, she says.
Ok, she was going to go down to battery park. Where was Chelsea residing at in Manhattan at the time of the attack?
Hope this helps .. I'm off to bed for now ..
What was she doing there in the first place? Doesn't she live in Chappaqua with daddy-o, or is she living in DC with mumsy? She doesn't have a JOB, does she?
With regard to what she was doing in Manhattan at that time of day, when her temporary "home" is out in the suburbs of Chappaqua (where, no doubt, there are much better places to jog than busy, traffic-filled streets), it was suggested on another thread that she actually had spent the night at a (shudder) boyfriend's place in the city.
One thing that strikes me about her alleged educational plans is that she hasn't yet gone to England. Even if the Oxford term doesn't start for a few weeks - I think Teacup tracked down some info on that - if you were going off to Europe to study and your rich parents had even rented a manor house for you to live in, wouldn't you have already gone to get settled in to both the town and the house? Realizing that she's a Clinton, and not like ordinary people, I still find that curious.
That's the big question in my mind.
I light of your decision to hire Chelsea Clinton to write about her experience as a 'witness' to the WTC horror I offer my services.
Not only did I actually see the WTC event on live television (except for very few 'good parts' that occurred while I was in the bathroom) but I actually flew on both TWA 800 -- more than once! -- and PanAm 103 -- more than once! -- years before they were destroyed.
I could put these real-life experiences in a snappy well-written piece that would be a credit to your magazine.
In light of the urgency I do not enclose the usual SASE so why don't you simply respond on this thread?
Thanks -- and God Bless Vacuity!
