China's Paranoia

China is increasingly fearful of India's advancement in Science and Technology as it believes that India is the only growing regional power which can challenge its supremacy in Asia and eventually the world. With the emergence of a resurgent, self-reliant India a paranoia has gripped the Communist leadership of China and driven by this paranoia it has launched a multi-faceted offensive to weaken India.

China's first priority is to frustrate, destabilize, and weaken the Indian armed forces. It has found in Pakistan a nation of Islamic terrorists who are readily available for exploitation. The manipulative Chinese are actively engaged in helping the Pakistanis produce weapons grade plutonium from spent fuel. The prestigious Security and Political Risk Analysis (SAPRA) journal in its January issue wrote that a Chinese company, Seventh Design and Research Institute is one of the collaborators which aids Pakistan in processing spent fuel. According to the journal this Chinese company recently transferred 50 ceramic capacitors to Pakistan and it was paid through a classified bank account maintained by a top ranking Pakistani embassy official in Beijing. Pakistan is also being aided by China in obtaining critical spare parts for the 300 MW Chasma Nuclear power plant (CHASNUPP) built by the Chinese.

Chinese assistance to Pakistan is not limited to ballistic missile and nuclear technology transfer. The relationship between the two nations has blossomed into a full fledged military cooperation as evidenced recently when Pakistan struck a deal with China worth $630 million in order to modernize its navy. Pakistan plans to replace the British built destroyers with an outright purchase of a frontline Chinese warship and three other similar ships to be built in Pakistan with heavy Chinese assistance.

China's nexus with Islamic nations, which are breeding grounds for Islamic fundamentalists and terrorists, goes far beyond Pakistan. It is a well know fact that the communist nation actively provides military aid to middle-eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iran. China wants to project itself as a cost-effective supplier of military hardware and technology-most of which is stolen from the western countries. Therefore, the Islamic nations which previously relied on western countries to fulfil their military requirements will now look towards China, which has absolutely no reservations about selling dangerous weapons systems to fanatical Muslim countries. China hopes that by aiding these Islamic nations it will form an alliance which can oppose the countries like India, US, UK, etc. who are in the way of realizing the Chinese hegemonistic dreams.

The current Chinese strategy consists of continued aid to Pakistan in developing ballistic missiles and other weapons of mass destruction. This strategy is based upon the fact that Pakistani Islamic terrorists will use these weapons against India to fight their Jihad. Furthermore, China realizes that the current leadership in India does not possess the will to bring the conflict with Pakistan to a conclusive end. Hence, India's valuable resources will be wasted in trying to defend against the proxy war waged by Pakistan and fueled by China.

Apart from weakening the Indian armed forces, the communist nation is also trying to strengthen its own military network in comparison to India's military network. A recent news report states that Chinese soldiers have intruded in the no man's land and de-militarized zone in the Ladakh sector and constructed all-weather roads and tracks there. The report states that the intrusion by the Chinese is at least 20 kilometers deep in the demilitarized zone. They have also built a functional infrastructure and communication network in the Eastern Sector right up to the Line of Actual Control (LAC). In comparison, the Indian roads are at least 40 kilometers short of the LAC placing the Indian troops at a huge disadvantage.

The Chinese intrusion into the demilitarized zone in Ladakh had begun as far back as 1999 and the Indian government was even apprised of this fact. However, since then they have chosen to do nothing and have been dismissing the Chinese incursions as minor incidents. In November 2000, it was revealed to the Indian administration that the Chinese had constructed a road stretching almost 5 KM into Indian territory across the Line of Actual Control (LAC). With the construction of this road the Chinese have strengthened their communications network and infrastructure heavily. They also hope to cite the existence of this road to lay claim to the valuable Indian territory. The Indian administration, instead of strongly retaliating and condemning the Chinese acts simply ignored it as a non-affair stating that the Chinese had only extended the road up to their perception of the LAC! Such illogical arguments by Prime Minister Vajpayee and his government is encouraging the Chinese even further.

The extensive road and communications network setup by China along the LAC have given its soldiers a huge advantage. In comparison, the Indian soldiers saddled with lower grounds, harsh terrain and years of neglect cannot even monitor the Chinese roads!

Last year the Chinese had also established a presence in the Indian Ocean and with the accession of three important Myanmarese islands in the Bay of Bengal the Chinese can keep track of the maritime radio traffic, rocket telemetry and radar emissions. In addition these islands can be used by China to launch naval and missile based attacks against India. Meanwhile, the Indian administration continues to buy into the Chinese tactic of delay by signing "fake" Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) and Non-aggression pacts with the "butchers of Tianamen Square." Perhaps, Mahatma Vajpayee believes that the burden of compliance of such agreements rests only with the Indian side just like the unilateral cease-fire in Jammu & Kashmir.

The internal security of India is also being undermined by China. It continually fuels Maoist and Marxist ideologies in Nepal and India. Apart from promoting these ideologies it funnels weapons and ammunition for the communists, naxalites and the Islamic terrorists in India via Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh. Once again, the Indian government chooses to close its eyes and ignore such hostile acts.

As highlighted in recent news reports China has also begun to attack India's industries and economy by flooding the market with cheap Chinese goods produced by slave labor. Cheap consumer goods such as umbrellas, locks, writing instruments, battery cells, toys, footwear, etc. have been dumped into the Indian market. Though the Indian government has been launching anti-dumping investigations against the Chinese from 1994 onwards, such investigations have yielded little or no result.

China's all out effort to destroy India has been going on for at least a decade, however they can hardly be satisfied with the results. Instead of weakening, India is slowly emerging as an aware and self-reliant nation. Despite poor leadership from Vajpayee, certain decisions by the BJP-led government have been successful in launching the Indian economy which is currently fueled by advancements made by Indians in Science and Technology. The economic growth, in turn, is propelling the growth and advancement of the entire Indian nation. Therefore, a paranoia has set in among the communist Chinese leadership. This paranoia has forced them to the point of fervent self-prostitution at the hands of the Islamic nations. But, China fails to realize that one day this ugly relationship with the Islamists and their communist policies will converge to destroy that nation from the inside out.

India, on the other hand, must discard this complacent and 'Mahatma-like' attitude and take strong action to counter the threat posed by the Chinese. China will eventually get destroyed by the result of its own actions, however India will also be consumed in this flame of destruction if it continues to follow the cowardly and repulsive policies of Vajpayee. India needs to rid itself of wannabe Mahatmas like Vajpayee and install a powerful and strong willed leadership. Only such a leadership will put the communist Chinese in its place and will also turn India into a superpower.

Say for example corporation A makes radios and does $1b in sales per year. .5% of that $1b will be sold in China, 65% of the sales will be in the USA, and the other 34.5% will go to Europe or Canada or wherever.

Yet corporation A moves their plant to China and spends $250million bucks there setting up shop.

People don't like facts messing up their ideologies or their conviniences. They don't want to take into account the political aspects of one of the biggest problems facing the world right now.

If everyone located in India, there would be not so much problem.

For me though, I think we should take 1/2 of our China based FDI and move it to India. There is no way on earth we should be importing $100 billion a year worth of stuff from the PRC.

Companies will argue, "but those people deserve our help". Well, there are poor people everywhere that deserve our help too. Poor people that actually like us...

The Indians may try to suck up to America because that is what China did under the Clinton Admin.

What happened? The economic cooperation was crushed and China had a free run at all of the FDI in Asia with little or no competition to speak of.

Those sanctions on India prevented a great deal of business from being done there. They actually barred all economic cooperation with India. No loans, no financial support, nothing.

It helps to have friends in high places.

You asked a good question. There could be a number of scenarios.

Lets take for example Pakistan. Just three weeks ago China and Pakistan were in bed together. China helps them build nuclear missiles, and helps them develop weapons of mass destruction, and a whole lot of other things.

Just recently America sanctioned the Chinese for this.

The reason China does a lot of that is to antagonize India.

Now though, America has stepped in. Relations with Pakistan have changed on our behalf and seemingly China's.

In two weeks the US, which China views as an enemy, has warmed up ties with Pakistan. That is almost overnight.

Countries to not act in terms of friendship most of the time. The act in terms of their personal interest.

I think it was Adam Smith who said something like 'men do not work out of their good graces'. They want to acheive something.

Now Pakistan, all of the sudden can turn into a threat to China.

It may not happen in 2 weeks, but over time, sentiments change. Once China can no longer deliver anything that Pakistan wants, then the friendship is over.

Eventually China might have to deal with a well armed Pakistan who is acting out of its own interests. And guess who sold them all the stuff.

China acts wrecklessly in these things. Selling a Stinger missile during a revolution is one thing, selling nuclear weapons is something else.

Those countries China arms for short term gains might not always want to take orders from Beijing.

The US has been able to keep long term relations because we do things on the standard of freedom, wealth, common good, etc. Doing business with America usually means it is beneficial to everyone involved to some extent.

You cannot effectively do business unless you think about what will profit your business partner.

China does not think on those terms most of the time. They will only give what they have to give in order to win a certain favor. Their system is flawed. China is still functioning on the basis of revolution. Eventually people get sick of revolution.

To sum it up, China acts too often out of short term self interest. Or just plain old self interest all together.

Especially when dealing with countries that are now poor, that may not be wise because they may not be poor or weak in the future. If you manipulate them now, they may come back on you later.

The US on the other hand tends to see long term interest of the citizens of our partners as our best interest. You can't sell stuff to oppressed people with no money. America invests all around the world in developing markets for this very reason. Everyone has to be on the same wave length though. Crazy ideologies can get in the way. Everyone has to be friends and come to understanding.

Economics and common values prevents a lot of wars...
