Barney Frank says WE CAN WAIT ANOTHER WEEK SO THEY CAN "WORK AS A COMMITTEE" TO CRAFT AN ANTI-TERRORIST BILL THAT ALL CAN LIVE WITH. CONCERNED ABOUT "RELEASE OF INFORMATION" being inappropriately disclosed. Probably worried about his own "exposures".

you seem very eager to give up your rights in the name of protection? once rights are gone, there is only one way to get them back usually, and it involves using the 2nd amendment for what it was intended to do. Like Frank gives a rip for your right to bear arms. Spare me.

Oh that's right, this war is going to be so secret that we don't even know its going on.
Makes it kinda hard to know whether its going on at all doesn't it? I suppose I'll just have to take my government's word for it, just like I did about Waco, Ruby Ridge, Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia etc..etc.

If it is Frank that stops it, then so be it. ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS...ABSOLUTELY! REMEMBER THIS...ANY LAW PASSED NOW...MAY NOT BE USED BY MR ASHCROFT LATER...OR BY BUSH. When another Administration moves in, then you may be subject to extreme prejudice, these new powers include the right to unlimited detention, tossing out Habeus Corpus, etc. We were attacked...and we need to bring those to Justice, in the process, WE SHOULD NOT TOSS OUT OUR CONSTITUTION.

Before you go calling people liars, you'd better get your facts straight. There is a website for the American Socialist Congress (or some such name. Its been posted before and I have been to the site to see it with my own eyes). Mr. Frank's name is upon it. He is a socialist its right there in black and white.
You owe me an apology. Let's see if you have the decency to make one.

this bill reads like a fascism wish list. The ACLU, congressional democrats and republicans are all concerned about its implications and possible "abuses".Thank God there are enough congresscritters with their heads screwed on to contemplate the long-term consequences of this legislation. If only Congress had done that during the reign of FDR ... instead of rolling over and giving him anything he wanted.
I'm not comparing Bush with FDR. But I am saying that Congress has an important role to play here. Frankly, I think Bawney Fwank is doing this for political reasons ... but I would hope that most opposition to this legislation arises from Congresscritters that are capable of understanding that legislation enacted for a good cause can have unintended negative consequences if not correctly crafted.

Could not the laws be written to be temporary with a self-destruct date or vote to renew? It could be like a wartime draft?

As we have seen in the recent past, this has been when countries take away the civil liberties of its people. Horrific attacks, then puff laws are changed limiting the liberties of people. A wise patriot must always be on guard.

Basically, it's a cinch to get FR behind whatever scheme you wish if you're just careful about who you pick to lead the opposition.
See, "leftist scum protests against the G-7 and Russia" for more.

You can hate Frank all you want, but he is definitely NOT an avowed Socialist.Frank, along with about 60 other DemocRATs, are members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), which is in complete harmony with the goals of the Democratic Socialists of America. The DSA considers the CPC very good friends ... and once had a list of all the CPC members on the DSA website.

John Conyers is asking for more time. He is so rude. 9 Posted on 09/24/2001 11:56:07 PDT by kassie I agree Conyers was not only rude but the fact that he knew Ashcroft was going to appear before them and was late then appeared critical of Ashcroft for his departure at 3:00 pm is outrageous.

"they can do quite a bit in one week... " Yeah... AFTER IT'S HAPPENED!
AFTER IT'S HAPPENED!
Get the point?
Hint: there is a difference between their ability to prosecute a crime, and their ability to investigate "suspicious behavior".

Take only one modification to existing law concerning wiretaps. From what was said, our laws today regard the tap being limited to the phone number not the suspect. It seems to me that because of today's technology (disposable phones, etc) that this is a necessary and reasonable modification to the laws. I am amazed how many people can be manipulated by the Dems into thinking that their civil rights are at risk. To those of you that have that typical knee-jerk reaction to this Democratic ploy of using the cause of "civil rights" to block Justice I have positioned my thumb to nose and am waving my fingers at you.
